Holidays in Fuerteventura were made for taking it easy. In fact, if you're in search of an away-from-it-all retreat that'll really recharge your batteries, then this place is ideal.

For a start, take a look at the beaches. One word – Wow!
A Fuerteventura holiday is all about ribbons of sands that snake into the distance. Turquoise waters that offer up an amazing menu of watersports and lashings of warm sunshine that'll give you a gorgeous all-over glow. As far as beach holidays go, this holiday hotspot's got all the bases covered.

For clear calm waters, it doesn't get much better than Costa Caleta. The horseshoe-shaped bay is sheltered by breakwaters making it a safe swimming spot that's perfect for families.

And for those that want a little more excitement there's an array of water sports, golf courses, cycling, football, tennis activities to choose from. All on the door step.

The Fuerteventura region

Fuerteventura is ideally located approx 4 hours flying time from London Gatwick.
The climate is excellent for all water sports including wind surfing, surfing and body boarding. Its rugged terrain offers some spectacular walking and hiking experiences.

With over 70 kilometres of pristine white beaches; an unbeatable climate; friendly people and sugar cube villages. These are some of the reasons why Fuerteventura, the Canaries' second largest island is becoming a Mecca for those seeking a picture postcard holiday.

With virtually the same climate as Florida and Mexico, Fuerteventura is like an all over tonic where you can't help but feel the stresses and strains of every day life disappearing over the horizon with the setting sun. For clouds and rain imagine a seamless stretch of sapphire blue with 360 days of sunshine per year; for the fumes of traffic torment think clean ocean breeze from a coastline never far away; for industrial hi-rise cities picture sugar cube villages and tiny fishing hamlets. There are a total of 152 beaches offering something for everyone. Some are wild and lonely, like something out of Robinson Crusoe, while others bustle with tourist activity.

Fuerteventura has a glorious climate all year with temperatures rarely dropping below 63°F (17°C) and more often above 82°F (28°C) during the day, and gentle sea breezes keep the island from baking. Rainfall in the summer months is almost non-existent, but showers are likely between October and April. Over the winter month’s travellers will need a sweater and light trousers for evenings, and possibly the odd rare cloudy day, but any other time of year will only need the bare essentials such as shorts and T-shirts.

The Canary Islands are on the same time line as the UK so there is no need to change your watches.

Electricity:
220 or 225 volts, 50Hz. European-style two-pin plugs are standard.

Language:
Spanish is the official language, but English is widely understood in areas frequented by tourists.

Caleta de Fuste / Fuerteventura Golf area

The town of Costa Caleta (also known as Castillo or Caleta de fuste) is perfectly positioned in the middle of the island, and therefore is only a 5 minute taxi transfer from the airport.
It is a particularly friendly town and caters extremely well for families and couples alike. There is a multitude of good restaurants in Caleta that can cater for all tastes at very reasonable prices. Steaks and Fish are particularly good, however there are also Chinese, Indian, Greek and English restaurants all within a close area.

There are also a number of good supermarkets within the local area. The town of Caleta is often referred to as a holiday village. The man made beach has been carefully constructed to avoid currents and is in the shape of a horse shoe. This ensures it is perfectly safe for children of all ages. Those wanting to be a little more adventurous can go diving, hire jet skis or learn to windsurf at the water centre on the beach. The harbour is home to many yachts, catamarans and boats which provide local trips as well as providing a beautiful backdrop in the evenings.

Costa Caleta is the fastest developing resort on the island and a safe water sports haven. Diving, snorkelling, windsurfing are popular in this protected bay and dolphins and pilot whales are common sights a little further out to sea.
The island's first golf course is situated just south of the village, an 18-hole, par 70 studded with palm trees and surrounding three stream-linked lakes.

Hi Graeme,
Thanks again for use of your lovely apartment. It was much bigger than we thought it would be.
The free bus ride from the hotel 3 mins from apartment to the main town & beach was great. The bus runs at 20 mins past the hour from Elba Palace Hotel.
Also found lovely pool with bar open to all just off beach @ Barcelo complex. Look forward to staying again. Regards Graham.

Just to let you know we have a great time. Kept forgetting that it wasn't just our pool! Most we saw around it were 4 other families... The free bus into town or the shops and beach was brilliant and we'd love to book up again for next year!

Wow! What a relaxing time we had.......
The champagne on ice when we arrived was a lovely touch. The wife really appreciated that on our anniversary.
This was the first time we've been away that hasn't been a package deal so we were a bit worried at first.
The cab driver knew exactly where we needed to go. Steve was there to meet us with the keys and a brief tour of the apartment and left us his contact details just in case. It was better than we had expected!!! My wife is already talking about coming out again in March with her friends.
