The Canary Islands region
Caleta de Fuste is located close to the airport (10 mins in a taxi) and is a fairly new town and holiday destination. Caleta de Fuste boasts many facilities to keep you and the kids occupied.
Caleta de Fuste has many child-safe beaches, and their various water and sand based activities, as well as bars, restaurants, tours, cruises, coastal walks plus much much more.
Caleta de Fuste has much to offer you as a tourist, In all Fuerteventura, and in particular Caleta de Fuste, should be a destination for everyone at some point, make it yours this year.
Caleta de Fuste has expanded over the last couple of years. There are now two 18 hole Golf Courses.
The resort of Caleta de Fuste, has been developed in such a way that it is enjoyed by families and others who appreciate a safe, relaxing holiday in a friendly environment.
Caleta De Fuste
Caleta de Fuste is a well ordered man-made low-rise resort catering for north European visitors looking for a home-from-home holiday experience. The beaches and the port are the centres of attention with boat trips and windsurfing providing the main alternatives to sunbathing. There is also 2 championship golf courses within the resort.
Who goes there?
Caleta de Fuste is completely devoted to package tourism, and is especially popular with younger families, couples and retired people from Britain, France, Germany, Italy and most Euro Zone countries. It is a very friendly, quiet, safe holiday destination and relatively crime free !!
Where in the world?
Caleta de Fuste is on the east coast of the Canarian Island of Fuerteventura (Spain), half way down the island. It is 12km (7.5 miles) south of the island capital, Puerto del Rosario, and 8km (5 miles) south of the airport. Caleta de Fuste is completely flat. 50+ miles east of Fuerteventura is the coast of Africa, so be aware of the strong sun rays here, it's not your 'Spanish Sun' it's an African climate here, so bring plenty of sun cream and aftersun !!
When to go?
Fuerteventura benefits from year-round sunshine and very little rain, with average daytime temperatures varying between 16- 20C in the 'winter' months of December/January/February and 28-34°C during rest of year. It can get up to 40c in July/August on some days though. The island does usually have a constant Northerly breeze which keeps you cool in the summer months
The main beach is set around a large bay and offers a broad stretch of golden sand, shelving very gently into the warm sea. There is plenty of room for everyone and it is ideal for young families. It is also a good place to learn windsurfing/scuba diving/jet skis with schools on, or close by the beach. There is also another quieter golden sandy beach with safe swimming lagoons and a sandy sea bed with no stones that is accessed via a sandy footpath to the right of the main resort beach as your looking out to sea towards the Atlantico shopping centre ! it takes 5 mins walking from main resort beach, this beach also has a lovely Bar/Restaurant which is set 50 metres out to see via a ffotbridge and the food and service here is excellent and is a great retreat for a cooling drink after sun soaking !!
Beyond the beach
The port is home to watersports operators offering jet-skiing, windsurfing and diving. Sea excursions include the Oceanarium Explorer, a glass-bottom submarine-style craft, and a catamaran which boasts a high success rate spotting dolphins and whales. On the other side of the main road, 2km (1.2 miles) from the beach, is the 2 Golf Clubs, both are championship course but no handicap is required to play here and you just pay and play !
Caleta de Fuste has been designed with families in mind and children are accommodated everywhere. The port has a small aquarium and older children will enjoy the ‘submarine' excursion. Adjacent to the beach are trampolines and mini golf. There is a 10-pin bowling alley on the main Carretera Jandía road inside the Atlantico shopping centre that has an array of shops, bars, restaurants and a large SPAR supermarket
The shops in Caleta de Fuste are grouped in Centro Commerciales (indoor centres) providing standard, mass-market, mediocre-quality goods. The island market visits the resort on Saturdays and is situated 5 mins wak from your villa next to the Motecastillo Centre which has a few bars and cafes etc. The market is very popular and starts approx 9am to approx 1pm and it offers the chance to buy more individual items, such as local leatherwork, clothes, linens, lace, ceramics, embroidery and African goods. Bartering is the norm and quite good fun with the African sellers !! Whatever the price is on offer, offer them 50% and barter from there !!
A night on the town
Caleta de Fuste boasts a number of music bars though on the whole it is a quiet resort after dark (no club 18-30's here). Many hotels and apartment blocks organise evening entertainment (discos, cabaret, quiz nights etc.) in house and welcome anyone.
The ever popular Piero's Music Café/Disco Pub (in town centre) offers live entertainment, shows and karoke everynight. The island capital Puerto del Rosario, 12 km (7.5 miles) south, has the best discos and nightclubs in this part of the island, but these cater mainly for locals but they will make you feel welcome. If you would like to ‘go native' for the evening find a friendly local and take their advice. Prices in Rosario tend be a little cheaper than in resorts.
The overall standard of food in Caleta de Fuste is excellent, with most restaurants serving Spanish-international dishes, Tapas etc. There are also several fast food outlets. Good local food can be found everywhere however - the best fish restaurant in the resort is Frasquita (Playa Caleta de Fuste) looking onto the beach, on the quieter, opposite side of the bay from the port. The owner comes to you with an array of fish and you pick the one you want and is cooked to perfection !! The best steakhouse in town is called Fado Rock and you must try the Chatauxbriand cooked on hot stones at the side of your table. Make sure your hungry when you visit here as there is plenty to eat !!
Caleta de Fuste is a relatively small resort and can be covered on foot. Island buses are scheduled for locals (not visitors) and services between Caleta de Fuste and places of interest are quite frequent. Hire a car if you want to explore the rest of Fuerteventura.
Exploring further afield
Antigua, the provincial centre, 20km (12.5 miles) west of Caleta de Fuste, is a best-kept village with a pretty square featuring an 18th-century church. Just north of here the Centro Artesanía Molino (Carretera Antigua Km 20) is a re-created small village-style complex, set around a 200-year old windmill. It includes a craft shop, museum and an attractive restaurant. A ‘must visit' is the ancient island capital, Betancuría, 25km (15.5 miles) west. Founded in 1404 by the Spanish island conquerors, today it is no bigger than a village. Many of its houses date from the 17th and 18th centuries. In the centre the Casa Santa María (Plaza Iglesia) is a beautiful Spanish-Colonial house which showcases the island's crafts, culture and history. It has an atmospheric bar, a charming outdoor cafe-restaurant and a more formal restaurant which is one of the best on the island.
South of Caleta de Fuste is Jandia (approx 45mins drive) but worth the trip, the beach here stretches for miles and you will feel like your in the Caribbean !!
The next best seat in town is on the balcony of the Restaurante Puerto Castillo (Muelle del Castillo), overlooking the port. Order their best steak (sourced from South America) or a traditional Canarian dish such as shoulder of lamb and enjoy your meal watching the sun go down over your holiday home. If you would like to experience the latest in spa technology visit the beachfront Hotel Barcelo Fuerteventura Thalasso Spa (Playa Caleta de Fuste).

"Excellent property, fully recommend"
Thank you Terry for firstly all the help with the booking which was very straightforward, we were apprehensive about booking direct but I can say it was a great decision !! The Bungalow was 1st class, very clean, a massive 50" Plasma TV with UK channels, location was great, just outside the main resort, cost 3 euros in a taxi. Will be booking again in June !!

"excellant apartment facilities great."
One main complaint too many big dogs obviously guard dogs barking incessant especially at niht. Must have own transport too far to walk especially if getting on abit as all uphill on return journey.
This Customer stayed in May 2013 and since then the people who owned the dogs have now moved !! Regarding needing transport, it is not essential as the taxi service from resort centre is excellent and back to house costs €3 euro's.... if your not feeling energetic enough to walk the 20 mins back !!

"villa had everything"
Hi This villa had every thing inside a real home from home as well as things you probably need cooking oil, coffee, milk, etc. Its about a 15 minute walk to the beach with nice cafes and bars on the way as well as a big Spar which was reasonable, also only 10 mind taxi from the airport and about 14 euros inc tip. Terry the owner seemed fine and there was no hassle booking the villa, Sue the lady who looks after the villa had the property very clean and was at hand if we needed anything. We really had a lovely holiday and if your not hiring a car the is public transport only 10 min walk away (on your way to the beach) so you can go to Correllejo and Morro able the other end of the island. We would definately book this property again when we return to Fuerte!

"Great villa - well out of the way..."
My family and I stayed at Villa Teliz in August of 2012. The villa was great. It was clean and tidy and maintained fairly well. On arrival we were met at the property by Sue who was lovely and extremely helpful! She showed us around the property and told us how everything worked and during our stay was more than helpful when we needed some additional assistance... There are all ameities at the villa and we wanted for nothing. I would have but one flaw and that is that the villa would benefit from blackout blinds in the bedrooms, however it did not spoil our time in Fuerty. The pool was pretty qiuiet for most of the holiday and was just across the road from the villa. I would say that the location was a good 20 mins walk from the town and a further 5 mins to the beach and when going back after a night out is a fair walk uphill, which may be a bit much for the elderly or anyone with disbilities. However, it is a mere 3euro for a taxi and on the way out there are plenty of bars and a couple of restaurants half way down, for a swift drink if you fancy it... All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Fuerty again this year and we would definately recommend this villa, we will probably book it again next time ourselves!! David & Kirsty
