Home description
The villa is located just a short walk to the beach and local amenities including a colourful Saturday market . morning. This is where the Spanish go on holiday and there are plenty of good, reasonably priced restaurants nearby. The living area has a log fire for those visiting in the cooler months and a ceiling fan for hotter weather. There is Sky TV and a DVD player (with lots of DVDs). There are also books and board games and some toys to amuse the children including LEGO.
The pretty harbour, which is still a working fishing port, is the ideal place to sit and have a drink or meal and just to watch the world go by. For those with more get up and go a leisurely walk along the promenade will bring you to Torre del Mar which has a livlier nightlife.
Golfers can opt for a game of golf and there are other activities such as horse riding available nearby. The caves at Nerja iare worth a visit and modern road links make a trip to Granada unmissable in the cooler months. Or you can just stay at the house relaxing on one of the terraces, drinking the local wine whilst enjoying a barbecue.

The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
The Axarquia area of Malaga has relatively uncrowded beaches and mountain 'white' villages. Less well known than the Marbella side of Malaga there is a distinctive Spanish flavour. The local capital of Velez Malaga is steeped in history and is a typical Spanish town which in the 21st century means that although retaining the Spanish flavour it provides all the modern amenities.
It is cheaper to eat out than many places in Spain and much more relaxed. For those missing the buzz and attractions of Spanglais, Nerja is more cosmopolitan and is much visited by the British. New road links have made visiting the historic cities of Granada, Cordoba and Seville a must in the cooler months. Antequerra (just north of Malaga) is also well worth a visit with the Sci-fi rock formations of El Torcal to the south and the rare flamingo breeding lakes of Piedra to the north.
It is very hot in the summer, but generally warm and sunny during the winter months, although it can become cool in the evenings.
Caleta da Velez area
Caleta itself is a very quiet seaside resort with a pretty harbour which still serves as a fishing port as well as a leisure marina. There are large beaches with plenty of beach bars, cafes and sunbed avalable for hire. The builder who developed the surrounding area in the 1970/80s lived in Caleta himself and came to an agreement with the local mayor that no high rise buiding should be allowed in the village. There is, therefore, a pleasing lack of the large apartment blocks which litter the rest of the coastline.
Those with chidren should visit the Aquapark in Velez Malaga (summer months only), maybe followed by an evening in the bowling alley in the complex opposite the Aquapark, which also boasts a supermarket and a cinema which sometimes shows films in English.
There is a golf course in Caleta and several others nearby.
The larger town of Torre del Mar is a short walk along the promenade. This a livelier place and a very busy Spanish holiday resort. There are many cafes which specialise in the plates of fried fish much loved by the Spanish. It is recommended that you go out for a stroll on Sunday evening (after nine - Spaniards eat late- and dressed up for the occasion) and mingle with the Spanish taking their paseo (evening stroll) and perhaps stop for a plate of fish or an ice cream. Night life is very Spanish and starts late at midnight until dawn. In the other direction is the smaller but very pleasant resort of Algarrobo.
Those with strong nerves can hire a car a take a drive around the white villages in the mountains or perhaps the less brave could take a trip to the local resevoir at Lake Vinuela and from there visit the nature reserve.
The larger town of Nerja is about 10 kilometres away. Served by a good bus service this is a must visit to walk along the famous Balcon Europa and visit the aweinspiring caves stumbled upon by two boys out playing during the 1950s. There is a smaller, but equally interesting cave system in Rinco de Victoria near Malaga. These are the only submarine caves in Europe which are open to the public.
How to get there
All budget airlines fly to Malaga
The price of car hire companies varies from visit to visit, but for convenience it is best to go with a company that has a desk in the terminal buiding e.g. Helle Hollis, Goldstar, Europa.
There is a regular bus service to Caleta (bus to Malaga bus station, then bus to Caleta)
A taxi should cost around 40 euros.
