Upper Watchingwell cottage is nestled in a tranquil location at the heart of the island on the former Ryde to Freshwater railway line. The location is perfect for both walkers and families alike. With a traditional country pub, the Blacksmith's Arms, and the Tennyson way within easy walking distance.

It is a semi-detached modern property surrounded by fields on all sides. It has a large garden perfect for summer evening barbecues. Internally there are three bedrooms and two reception rooms giving plenty of space for everyone. It is located in a very secluded location about 1 mile down an unmade farm track that must be driven with care.

Electricity, cleaning, bed linen and towels included. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Downstairs: two lounges, kitchen-diner, toilet, hallway. Upstairs: One double bedroom, two twin bedrroms, bathroom.

Large lawned garden with seperate patio and BBQ areas. Off road parking for 4 cars (circular driveway). Pub 1 mile, and shop (Carisbrooke) 2 miles. Bus stop 15 minutes walk in either direction on the Yarmouth or Calbourne road.

Please note that the cottage is situated in a very secluded location about 1 mile down an unmade uneven farm track. The state of this track varies with the season and amount of farm activity. Nevertheless it is passable by ordinary cars (not low slung sports cars) it just has to be taken slowly (5mph) and with patience. Our VW Golf / Honda Jazz handles it without a problem. There is access either north to the Yarmouth road (A3054) or South to the Calbourne road (B3401).

The Isle of Wight region

Situated just off the South coast within 2 hours of London the Isle of Wight is a perfect location for families and walkers alike. The island is often referred to as a 'Little England' with it's stunning countryside and beautiful beaches, which form the backdrop for it's many and varied attractions. From castles and manor houses to adventure parks and piers. It is renowned as one of the sunniest places in the country.


Upper Watchingwell cottage is located in a rural location approximately 2 miles west of Carisbrooke / Newport. This central location means both West and East of the island are easily accessible. The West is generally quieter and less touristy with attractions like the Newtown nature reserve, Carisbrooke Castle, the Needles park, and Blackgang Chine and quieter beaches such as Compton bay, Colwell bay, and Totland bay. The East is generally more touristy with attractions like Osbourne house, Ryde, and Ventnor, and the blue flag beaches at Sandown, Shanklin, and Ventnor. In addition, there is excellent potential for walkers along the Tennyson way or the Isle of Wight coastal path.

"Inaccessible. Terrible facilties. Renter in a world of there own"

There is no road to access the property, it is 1 mile of pothole dirt track. No taxi will drive there so you can't go out for meals at night. Days it sleeps 6 but shower doesn't work. Eithe… More

I'm sorry you didn't read the description of the property before booking which contains pictures of the house (including floral wallpaper!) and a paragraph detailing the road access and necessity for a car.
As discussed in our previous e-mails, I am unwilling to refund part of the cost of your holiday when threatened with a poor review. This is particularly considering you only mentioned the shower issue in the e-mail and I explained that the instructions for use were clear and in the visitor information booklet. We are looking into how to make this clearer at present though, thank you for bringing it to our attention.
No previous visitor has mentioned the TV, of which there are two, we are happy to look into this.
I am pleased that you have informed me in your previous e-mails that you otherwise enjoyed your stay.
