Calahonda Park
About the home
Calahonda Park is a secure, privately run complex located less than 5 minutes walk from a secluded local beach covered in golden sand. Whilst Calahonda Park itself is quiet and peaceful, the town of Calahonda offers numerous good quality restaurants, live entertainment, supermarkets and other smaller shops, all within walking distance of the apartment. Local markets and golf courses are only a short journey away either by car or public transport. It's also only 15-20 minutes away from larger resorts such as Marbella and Fuengirola.

Situated on the first floor and close (but not adjacent) to the lift, it boasts two large bedrooms, the master having en-suite facilities including a jacuzzi bath. The shower room/wc is adjacent to the second bedroom. There are full catering facilities in the kitchen area for those wishing to eat in, either in the dining area or al fresco on the huge south facing balcony. The spacious lounge offers comfortable seating, stereo and satellite tv, which offers all major UK channels as well as numerous UK radio stations for those who wish to keep in touch with what's going on at home or around the world.
Further details outdoors:
The large terrace faces due south and enjoys long hours of sunshine, but also offers a shaded recess for those who enjoy the Spanish warmth without wanting to sit directly in the full sun. Patio dining furniture is provided as are four sunbeds, two of which are easily portable should you wish to take them down to the pool or the local beach and save around 5 Euros per head per day on sunbed fees! The grounds themselves are immaculate and feature two very clean swimming pools surrounded by mature trees and shrubs. The complex, which is a mixture of residential and rental apartments, is secure with several entry gates and is not accessible to the general public.
Further details
Smoking is permitted only on the balcony or in the communal corridor. No pets please.

The Costa del Sol region

Calahonda is just 25 minutes drive from Malaga airport. Trains and local bus services can also take you there. The Costa del Sol boasts good all year round sunshine and is perfect for escaping the variable British weather. Malaga itself has a large modern shopping centre, whilst the old town offers historic sites such as the castle and cathedral. Don't forget to visit the Picasso Museum too. To the south of Calahonda, you have towns such as Marbella and Puerto Banus, or famous golf courses such as Valderrama. Even Gibraltar is only a 90 minute drive away. Traditional Spanish villages such as Mijas, Ojen and Benahavis are also within easy reach.
The Calahonda / Calahonda Royale area
Calahonda itself offers numerous local shops and a selection of larger supermarkets. The local beach leads along the coastline to other expanses of golden sand, with Cabopino a particular favourite. The resort of Calahonda boasts restaurants too numerous to mention. The local seafood is fabulous but there is something for everyone with many forms of international cuisine on offer, all within easy walking distance. There's even a McDonalds to keep the kids happy! The local market is held every Wednesday and Saturday at La Cala, just 5 minutes by car or on the local bus. Several golf courses are also nearby.

The nearest airport is Malaga, just 25 minutes drive away. There is also a frequent train service directly from the airport to Fuengirola where the train and bus stations are only yards apart. From there the local bus service continues on to Calahonda. The connections and service are very good and the bus stops a short distance from the apartment. The total cost of the train/bus journey is excellent value too, currently just 3 Euros 50 Cents each way per person! It is also possible to reach Calahonda by flying into Gibraltar and hiring a car from there.

On arrival we had a few problems getting into the complex it was late at night and no one around to ask. There was no entrance clearly sign posted and the lighting was very poor. We eventually got inside the complex which is near to the electric access gate for cars. Inside the complex again lighting was very poor and non at all in most places, take a torch! We got to the apartment which is right around the back to the right. Again no lighting which is a bit tricky with luggage. The apartment is very spacious, good sized kitchen, living/dining room and terrace very large and south facing with sun all day you don't need the beach. The beach was not very nice locally, there's a better one at Cabopino about a miles drive away. Saying that we didn't need the beach as the terrace was so nice. Master bedroom very spacious and good sized en suite with bath and vanity units to store toiletries. The only downside we found was the 2nd shower room was a lot smaller than the bathroom we found it was a bit cramped and got steamed up badly the extractor fan didn't work very well. We also couldn't get the TV to work. Apart from this the apartment was very nice. Location is ok and although just located off a busy road it is quiet as the apartment is right at the back of this very large complex. Calahonda main strip is about a mile walk or 15/20 minutes, flat walk though so ok. Aldi is 2 minutes walk away for groceries which is very handy and there's another supermarket a few hundred feet up the road. In Calahonda we found a good chinese the slow boat and also lots of other restaurants. Ronda is a worthwhile visit and also Estepona both about an hour's drive away. We found a cheap car hire place near the chinese in Calahonda. I have not recommended this apartment to people with disabilities or families with kids due to the location and also with the lack of lighting outside. It's a good 15 minutes walk to main part of Calahonda which is not far, but may not suit families or the disabled. If you hire a car of course no problem. Taxis are expensive locally we used one twice and they are more expensive than in the UK, so not really a good option, it was about 7 euros for a cab from Calahonda to the apartment which is only a mile away. Taxis from Cabopino were even more, but this is a very nice area, like a mini Marbella, with a marina. Response: Thank you for your review. I am pleased that overall you enjoyed your stay. Calahonda Park is semi residential rather than a full blown holiday complex, which is part of it's charm. On that basis there are no overt signs, however I do ensure that all guests are provided with adequate directions. With regard to the lighting, I can only assume that there was a problem on that particular night. There are five street lights outside the block, which are normally on all night. This in turn would have allowed you to find the light switches situated in each staircase and passageway within the block itself. These are both important safety features within Calahonda Park, which is a very well managed complex, and I trust that this didn't detract too much from your overall experience. |
