The Costa del Sol region
Nearby Fuengirola offers an aquapark, a zoo and a castle. Other coastal resorts include Marbella, Malaga, Estepona and, of course, Gibraltar. Inland there is beautiful countryside and many white-washed hill villages, including Ojen, Mijas and 'not to be missed' Ronda. Slightly further afield there are Granada, Cordoba and Seville. There is a market somewhere in the region everyday of the week, the biggest being in Fuengirola on a Tuesday. You will never be short of somewhere to go or something to do. However, alternatively, you may rather lie on a beach, sit around the pool or just relax on the terrace taking in the view.
This part of the coast is known to enjoy sunshine for over 300 days a year. The scenery is stunning - sandy beaches, and mountains reaching down to the blue sea.
It is also a great spot for exploring Andalusia. Inland lakes, gorges and mountains are under 2 hrs drive away. You can drive or take coach trips further afield to the ancient city of Alhambra, the Roman bridge at Ronda, visit the apes on Gibralta, or even spend the day in Morocco!
Calahonda is situated between Marbella and Fuengirola and is an area chiefly developed for tourism.
The main area of Calahonda, which is visible from the main CN-340 road, has many restaurants and shops, with the best options for shopping, dining and entertainment, located in the El Zoco commercial centre in Calahonda which is next to the apartment. Every thursday there are a popular market.
A short journey westward, about 15 mins by car, will take you to Marbella where you can browse round the cobbled Old Town, or stroll under the palm trees along the promenade. Drive for another five minutes along the coast to Puerto Banus.
Nearby you have many great golf courses. You are close to the area of Mijas and Mijas Pueblo, Andalusia's most popular white village, which is situated slightly further northeast in the hills.
Close by are the natural sand dunes at Cabopino and Elvira with the famus Nikki Beach club, if you are looking for a beach resort with more facilities.
Calahonda enjoys a sub-tropical Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and warm winters. Cooling breezes from the sea make the summer heat manageable; temperatures average 32 ºC during the summer.
