The Andalucia region

Our holiday rental apartment is located in Sitio de Calahonda, on the Costa del Sol, Southern Spain, so you are located within easy reach of the beach and numerous other tourist attractions.

Calahonda is only about 30 minutes drive from Málaga International Airport so it's easy to get to from the airport and cosmopolitan Málaga city.

Here are just a few of the many places our guests choose to visit while on holiday;

Marbella, a modern city with an attractive “old town” where the historic buildings and ambiance have been carefully preserved. Renowned for its shopping by day and thriving night-life (approximately 10 minutes drive).

Puerto Banus, an area famous for its popularity with the "jet set" visitors. Keep your eyes open, you never know who you will see here but a word of warning, look do not buy, prices here are much more expensive than most other areas (approximately 20 minutes drive).

Reputed as being the biggest water-park in Europe, "Aqua-Park", is in Torremolinos. It has a massive choice of attractions ranging from the giant water slides, foam slides, The Black Hole, Wild River and The Kamikaze to the more sedate children's water park, bubble pool and Aquatic mushroom. Something for all ages and degree's of adventure (approximately 20 minutes drive).

There is another water-park, "Parque Aquatic Mijas", which is located in Fuengirola. It again has a variety of attractions from body ski slide to labyrinth slide, from Kamikaze slide to children's play area the children's, Aqualandia (approximately 15 minutes drive).

Trivoli World is said to be the biggest Theme Park on the Costa del Sol. It is located at Benalmadena. At Trivoli World, you will find a variety of attractions and amusements coupled with shows and restaurants. It is usually open from afternoon until late at night (approximately 20 minutes drive).

Paintball Marbella, the name speaks for itself. If you and the kids fancy an action packed day this may well be for you.

Horse riding. Fancy a canter on the beach or a trek into the mountains, try El Jinete a British owned riding school and stables at La Cala (15 minutes drive.)

Quad Trekking or off-road motorcycling, again it speak for it self. (Marbella, 15 minutes drive.)

Multi-lane ten pin bowling and full size amusement arcade. La Cananda shopping mall, Marbella (15 minutes drive,)

For those with a head for heights and a liking for spectacular views there is the cable car, Telecabina. It starts near Trivoli World and takes you to the top of the mountain range above Benalmadena. Do not forget your jacket it will be hot where you start but you go mighty high up in those mountains! The views are spectacular but it is definitely not a ride for those wary of heights (approximately 20 minutes drive).

There is a Sea life Centre at Benalmadena (approximately 20 minutes drive).

Gibraltar is in our opinion too close to miss. You can visit the historic tunnels which have been literally carved through "The Rock" during various wars, visit the famous apes high on the island, visit the natural grottos where they hold underground concerts or just enjoy some of the islands popular duty free shopping. Alternatively, you could take a Dolphin and Whale Safari off Gibraltar by boat or take a day trip to the African mainland. It's a fair drive but we think it's worth it (approximately 90 minutes drive).

Selwo Adventure Park is at Estapona. Selwo is "an out of Africa experience." The Spanish Safari (approximately 30 minutes drive).

The Go-Carting Centre at Fuengirola has two circuits and is suitable for all age groups (approximately 15 minutes drive).

For the golf lovers, the Costa del Sol is understandably known as the Costa del Golf. There is an abundance of courses ranging from championship to the "not so challenging." After you try one of the more difficult courses you may (as we did) decide that it's time to improve the standard of your golf at the world famous Leadbetter Gold Academy at nearby La Cala. We can personally recommend the academy but we have found that pre-booking is advisable due to the popularity of the school. Whatever your standard how can you fail to enjoy a game when the weather is so fantastic and there is such a variety of courses to choose from?

Oh and if you have time you could always have a day on the beach, which one, take your pick.

We are sure you will find many more attractions, they are too numerous to mention. We supply the venue, you supply the enjoyment!

Calahonda

Sitio de Calahonda, abbreviated locally to Calahonda, is a relatively peaceful and quiet community located on the Costa del Sol, Southern Spain. It is within easy reach of many of the attractions and popular tourist destinations of Southern Spain such as Marbella, Puerto Banus, Rhonda, Mijas Pueblo, Malaga and Gibraltar. It is only approximately 30 minutes drive from Malaga International Airport (also known as Pablo Picasso Airport) so it is prime location makes it an ideal holiday location.

Calahonda is a reasonably large community and it spreads over some distance. It goes from beachside to high up in the hills, therefore your choice of location accommodation is important, that's where we come in. If you want easy access to the beach and main shopping area's rent our holiday home, make sure you do not rent a property in the hills!

Calahonda is a peaceful and trouble free area. The vast majority of residents and business proprietors are English speaking, so communication is not a worry.

Calahonda has three main shopping areas. Los Cipresses, Los Olivios and El Zoco. All are modern and provide most of the things you are likely to need to buy while on holiday.

At Los Cipresses you will find two banks with service tills, a DVD / video hire shop (with predominantly English language films), three supermarkets each with a Tapas / snack bar, two restaurants and an Ice cream parlour / Italian Cafe. There is also a laundry, Doctors surgery, dentists, Internet Cafe, Newsagents come tourist shop come tobacconists.

At Los Olivios, you will find a supermarket, a bank, a currency exchange bureau, a florists, and a cafe / restaurant /tapas bar.

At El Zoco you will find a supermarket, a Post Office, three banks with Service tills, a currency exchange bureau, clothing shops, a newsagents, a florists, a Tour operator offering tourist trips, a hairdressers, an amusement arcade, several cafes, several restaurants and several bars.

There are numerous other small local shops, bars and restaurants at other convenient locations throughout Calahonda.

Two Emergency Medical Centres provide cover 24 hours a day. Each has ambulances and fully trained medical staff.

The main hospital, Hospital Costa del Sol, is only a short drive (approximately 10 minutes) from Calahonda. There are several 24 hours pharmacies in the area.

A “Tourist train” operates throughout Calahonda most of the year. This is an inexpensive means of getting around. It is a "train" of about two to four carriages pulled by a road vehicle designed to resemble a steam train. It circulates around the main streets of Calahonda on a half-hourly basis.

Calahonda has two public taxi ranks, one located at El Zoco shopping precinct and the other is at Los Cipresses.

There is a good, regular bus service going both North and South of Calahonda along the main Costal road, the A7. Public transport is cheap.

Calahonda is a modern community with all the conveniences that you would expect of a quality tourist destination. It is a quieter and much more family orientated area than nearby Fuengirola or Torremolinos, which are renowned for being lively and for a very busy nightlife.

Because Calahonda is on the coast, naturally you have a large choice of beaches. There is La Luna beach, which is a smaller more private beach with its own beach hut and shower facilities or you could visit Puerto Cabopino, which is Calahonda's own Port. The Port is particularly quaint when lit up at night. The port has several family restaurants, bars and cafes. To the side of the port you will find ample parking for the beach. The beach is a long beach with golden sand. It has a large well-equipped beach bar, showers and toilet facilities. It has all the water sports that you would hope to find as well as sun loungers, parasols etc.

Calahonda has three public parks and one garden centre.

Calahonda has two golf course, one small nine hole par three golf course it's own driving range, bar and restaurant (La Siesta Golf Club), the other is a full 18 hole course which again has a bar, restaurant and grass driving range (Cabopino Golf Club.) In addition, there are approximately 50 golf courses within easy reach of Calahonda. They do not call it the Costa del golf for nothing!

Calahonda is easy to get to and has easy access to other local attractions because there is an exit off the AP7 toll road / motorway at Calahonda. Alternatively, you can take the main costal road, the A7, to and from Calahonda.

"Excellent location, great apartment and will definitely be going back!!"

We stayed for 4 nights at the start of November and had a great time. The grounds and pool are immaculate as are all the communal areas in the apartment block. There is a great new lift so if you have heavy shopping or a buggy or wheelchair its very convenient. The Apartment has been decorated to a high quality and looks simply and modern but still comfortable. I have no complaints and will definitely be going back there next year!
