The area is very Spanish, relaxed and tranquil. There is a shaded parking space immediately under the apartment at ground level. Next door to the apartment, there is access to the Playa de La Cola beach by way of a private gated stepped pathway (2 minutes to this beach), and this pathway has a handy shower facility midway along this path. The Murcia region
The climate of the Costa Calida region is similar to the Costa del Sol, so it is suitable all year round. It enjoys constant sunshine, with daytime temperatures seldom below 18 degrees celcius in Winter.
The Spring and Autumn enjoy temperatures in the mid 20s and the Summer months of July and August are hot. Much of the Murcian Province and in particular the south of Murcia is completely unspoilt by mass tourism. You will enjoy the feeling of being away from the madding crowd and the satisfaction of finding a true oasis in the sun. Day trips to Murcia city, the Sierra Espuna Parque Natural and medieval Murcian towns like Carravaca de la Cruz and Aledo will inspire you. The centre of Murcia city itself is very beautiful, and has winding narrow pedestrian streets, tree adorned shaded plazas and wonderful restaurants and tapas bars.
One can golf at Lorca Resort Golf (a 20 minute drive from the apartment), at Aguilon Golf close to San Juan de Los Terreros (a 25 minute drive from the apartment), at the Desert Springs Golf Club in Almanzora, the only desert golf course in Europe, which is a 40 minute drive from the apartment or at Hacienda Del Alamo Golf Resort in Fuente Alamo (about a 40 minute drive north). There is also a water park in Garrucha, which is a 50 minute drive and another water park on the outskirts of Murcia city (Terra Natura water park).
Calabardina is a small seaside Spanish resort which is open all year round, though of course quieter in the Winter months. The local amenities include various boutique hotels, beach-side bars, restaurants, cafes and a hairdressing and beauty salon. There is a small family run supermarket open all year round, and a second family run supermarket open for the Summer months.
There is a bus service linking Calabardina to the larger town of Aguilas, however a car is recommended. Calabardina is situated at the foot of the Cabo Cope mountain and at the edge of the Cabo Cope Parque National, which is ideal for hiking/walking with its spectacular views over the Costa Calida north to the town of Mazarron and south to the town of Mojacar. Calabardina has two large beaches, one is the sheltered sandy Calabardina cove, ideal for the entire family, whilst the Playa de la Cola is a longer and less sheltered beach located on the way into Calabardina.
There is also an additional very small sandy cove within a couple of minutes walk from the apartment. On the outskirts of the town, there is a small beach which is ideal for anyone who likes to snorkel and Calabardina has two diving schools which cater for all levels of expertise. Other activities available include water sports, walking, hiking, beach fishing as well as exploring the coast and inland amenities. Several golf courses are also within easy reach by car (e.g.as mentioned previously, Lorca Resort Golf near Aguilas, Aguilon Golf near San Juan de Los Terreros, Desert Springs Golf in Almanzora and Hacienda Del Alamo in Fuente Alamo amongst others).
This part of Spain is one of the last undeveloped tourist destinations. You will be intrigued and captivated !
The nearest town to Calabardina is Aguilas (approximately a 10 minute drive). This town is typically Spanish. A very large weekly outdoor market is held on Saturdays on the outskirts of the town, selling local fresh produce, clothes, shoes, bric-a-brac etc. Aguilas itself is served by a large selection of shops, which cater for all age groups, numerous hotels, seaside cafes, bars and restaurants. There is also a relatively new and large shopping mall (Aguilas Plaza) on the outskirts of Aguilas, which incorporates a multi screen cinema and food hall. The town of Aguilas itself has two very large and picturesque sandy beaches which cater for the entire family.
The North and South beaches of Aguilas are separated by the imposing hillside coastal castle (floodlit at night) and there is a lovely promenade walk (circa 1.5 kms) which one can take from the centre of the town to the well appointed Hotel Puerto Juan Montiel Spa & Base Nautica (formerly the Hotel Don Juan), for a well deserved café con leche or a chilled cerveza. Aguilas is also served by its own bus & train station, which itself serves all major destinations throughout Spain. The medieval town of Lorca can be reached in 30 mins by car, Murcia city in 60 minutes and the famous port city of Cartagena in 50 minutes (Cartegena has been a key port since the time of the Roman Empire). As mentioned previously, there are several golf courses within easy reach by car - Lorca Resort Golf is a 20 minute drive from the apartment, Aguilon Golf near San Juan de Los Terreros is a 25 minute drive door to door, while Desert Springs Golf Course is approx 25 kms by car.
The area surrounding Aguilas is agricultural, with no major industry. The air is therefore fresh and clean and Lemon, Orange and Almond trees abound as well as all types of vegetables. The climate is temperate all year round which is helped in this regard by the surrounding mountains and the sea. Aguilas itself holds an annual Carnival in February of each year prior to Easter, which is noted as being one of the best in Spain.

"Lovely apartment with stunning views of the bay"
Knowing the Costa Del Sol & Costa Tropical coasts very well we decided to try Costa Calida instead. We went blindly to Calabardina but it didn't disappoint us. The owner's photos show exactly the location but seeing it for real is breathtaking. We are a hard-working couple in our 50's and wanted somewhere to rest and relax, and we certainly did this here. However, as it was mid October most of the bars & restaurants had limited opening times and not clear when they are open, but we did have a car to explore the town of Aguilas close-by (about 10-15 minute drive). The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. As the weather was still very hot we were grateful for the breeze on the balcony, which we spent most of time when 'home'. It's very handy having the parking space close-by and only 1 flight of stairs up. There is a private secured gate down to the 'La Cola' beach, very handy, and short walk to a very small beach, and a 5 minute walk to the main beach (watch the steep climb back though!) The beaches were very clean and safe to swim. A short drive to Cabo Cope reveals many many beaches, stony, but very private, and the sea was very calm to swim. Although we didn't use them the owner provides beach umberellas and chairs. You can find a very good supermarket a short walk away in the village which sells everything you might need, but bigger super/hyper markets in Aguilas, even an Aldi! The marina and beaches also in Aguilas were beautiful, and the town square is abundant with shops, cafes, bars & restaurants. As this area is not as commercialised as some parts of Spain, most Spanish do not speak English and we don't speak any Spanish, but they are very helpful and loved watching our hand movements when trying to order something, sometimes we didn't know what would arrive, but were never disappointed with the food. We flew into Murcia airport and the drive was about 50 minutes or so. One day we drove to Mazarron and Bolnuevo, the marina is quite new and very nice for a meal of fresh fish or seafood, and Bolnuevo is a very pretty coastal village with a long beach for walking, but we were glad that we booked this apartmnt in Calabardina. We drove down to San Juan Los Terreros which again had become quiet due to the time of year, but a very pretty coastal village with very nice restaurants. We stayed our second week further down the coast in Mojacar Playa, in contrast very commercialised with more English tourists, so if you want real Spain, Calabardina is the place to be! The owner provided excellent directions to the apartment, payment was made easy, and we were greeted by his local English representative. We had no problems while staying there and would definitely return.

"Fantastic views from balcony perfect for sitting out in evening"
My wife and I and our two young children spent 2 weeks here in June 2012. The weather was perfect from start to finish. The apartment is situated in what must be the best spot in town, with fantastic views of the sea and the hills in the distant. We knew beforehand that with 2 kids we weren't going to be getting out much in the evenings so somewhere nice to sit out in at night was a priority for us, and the apartment did not let us down! Lovely warm evenings spent looking at the sea and stars with the odd drink here and there. Very quiet when we were there as it was just before Spanish school holidays but that suited us down to the ground. The beach nearest to the apartment is quite small but its ok and what makes it is the sea which is lovely and clear and great for swimming in and kids for paddling in. The main beach is bigger and sandier and is only about 5 minutes walk away as well (although the sea didn't seem as crystal clear there but it was still nice). The resort is more of a residential resort, lots of holiday villas and apartments owned by Spaniards and expats from elsewhere, there aren't lots of bars and restaurants like you would find in bigger resorts but there are a few and they seem very good, and Aguilas which is a lovely Spanish town about 10 minutes drive away has lots of bars and restaurants too if that's what you are looking for (and also nice beaches as well). The coast is very nice to drive along you can find lots of secluded beaches that are quiet as well but spectacular in their own way. As a base to expore the Murcia region I would also say this would be a perfect spot. All of the dealings we had with the owner and his representative were spot on, they always answered our questions quickly and helpfully and felt comfortable dealing with them from the off. Also made it very helpful in terms of arranging payment.

"Best view in town!"
We were after a quiet relaxing holiday with time to sit and gaze at the sea and this is exactly what we got! Calabardina is probably one of the few low rise towns on the coast, is very quiet out of season, has a lovely beach, a well stocked small supermarket, an excellent bakers/cake shop and is close enough to larger towns/cities should you want to see more of the area. The apartment is just as described on the website and views from the balconies are great - particularly the sunsets. The property was very clean and the owners representative very helpful. The nearest larger town, Aguilas, is very pleasant and good place to sit and 'people watch'. We visited Lorca, the Sierra de Espuna, Murcia and Cartahena - all well worth a visit. We would certainly go back!

"Calabardina - the authentic Spanish experience"
We have stayed in El Mirador for the past three years and intend to return again in 2012 - it is that good. We love the apartment which is very comfortable, well maintained with everything you need. Its location is excellent with fantastic views out to sea and inland. Calabardina is a small village retaining its Spanish informality. The beaches are excellent and safe for families with babies and young children. Aguilas, the main town, is a 5 minute drive away. The two beaches there are fantastic and the town comes to life in the evening when people congregate in the Town Square. During the months of July/August/September there is free entertainment in the Plaza and we thoroughly recommend that you try it on a Saturday night when there is a great buzz about the place.
