The Balearic Islands region
Mallorca is the largest and most popular of the Balearics (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera). Mallorca is an island of startling contrasts. Its landscape varies from rugged mountains in the north to pine-covered hills and windmill-dotted plains in the south. In the west, the historic and elegant capital, Palma, skirts an attractive harbour while in the east, you can explore pretty, secluded sandy coves. Mallorca remains an astonishingly beautiful place, with verdant pines, rolling green hills, endless superb beaches and a varied choice of resorts, each with a character and flavour of its own.
Mallorca is in the Mediterranean "Winter Rain area". The summer start in end of May beginning of June. From then on you have sun shine almost every day until end of September, beginning of October.
Cala San Vicente
Cala San Vicente is a very attractive village well known for its sheltered sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Cala San Vicente has three small beaches, Cala Barques, Cala Clara and Cala Molins.
It is at the foot of beautiful rugged mountains in a pine clad valley. There are a number of local cafes and restaurants serving both international and typically Mallorcan dishes. There is also a local grocery shop for all your provisions (inc. daily fresh bread and pastries), a pharmacy and a water sports rental shop and boutique.
Not surprisingly the spectacular countryside is ideal walking country popular with ramblers and painters like.
Cala San Vicente is situated 3 kilometres from Pollenca Village and 4.5 kilometres from Puerto Pollenca.
It is an ideal holiday location for family holidays and couples alike.
The busier resort of Puerto Pollensa is just a 6 minute drive away, with its busy fishing port , wealth of shops, bars, restaurants and a stretch of long sandy beach. Boats and water sports are available to hire.
Pollensa is a beautiful historic small town 4 minutes drive away and here you will find an enchanting mixture of winding cobbled lanes and medieval architecture, interspersed with interesting craft shops and delightful squares where you can enjoy a relaxing drink at one of the many cafes. There is a 9 hole golf course and tennis is also available in Pollensa.
The town of Pollenca is indisputably pretty, with narrow streets, pastel painted cottages and Moorish looking water mills on the outskirts. Pollenca has a weekly Sunday market selling all local produce and wears, held in the beautiful historic square. The rest of the week this historic square is a great place to dine al fresco or sip a long cool drink whilst watching the world go by. Ensconced between two hills you will be able to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this typical Spanish town. On the West side of the town is Puig Calvari (Mount Calvari) crowned by the 19th Century chapel with an image of the Virgin, possibly dating from the 13th Century. The Chapel can be reached by climbing 365 steps. The locals say that each step represents a day and once you reach the top you will shed all your sins from the previous year.
