Home description

Great for all year round relaxation in a thriving local community (not simply a tourist town). If you like walking, swimming, cycling , playing golf or just chilling out, this is a great location with a wide range of interests catered for. The apartment is close to a selection of beautiful sandy beaches all within easy walking distance. Alternatively take a walk up on to the lighthouse on the headland to gain some great views across the island.

The evening is an ideal time to stroll down to the port area, with a varied choice of fine restaurants all facing the sea along a mile long stretch of 'paseo maritimo', meandering along the coast and free of traffic.
Alternatively a 5 minute walk gets you to the small cove of Cala Lliteras where you can enjoy a quiet drink at Sa Cova at the water's edge, unless it's Monday evening and you're in for a treat with live music as well (seasonal)!

The second floor apartment is located in a quiet part of the town with very little traffic noise, so that in the evening you can enjoy a quiet drink on the balcony and watch the sun set over the mountains, or take a walk into town and join in the hustle and bustle around the port area.

Enjoy a dip in the pool !

The Mallorca/Majorca region

Majorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands located to the East of Barcelona in the Mediterranean Sea (size approx 80 miles x 50 miles, so all places on the island are fairly close).
It has always been a particular favourite with British, Spanish and German tourists. The island climate means the temperatures are less extreme than mainland Spain, which is a real bonus these days with climate change. Along the north west coast runs a range of mountains rising to 3,500ft. South of Mallorca is flatter and our north east side is a mix of hills and plains.
The area has many popular resorts to visit including Alcudia with its enormous golden sandy beach and the historic town of Arta. The region is also home to the hill top Castle at Capdepera and Mallorca's well known tourist attraction, the Caves of Drach is only a 25 minute drive away. We have also our local Caves of Arta (adjacent to Canyamel).
For nature lovers closeby is the Albufera with it's 8 hides where you can sit and watch migratory birds at all times of the year. We recently saw a Little Bittern which is apparently quite rare.
for more information see: http://www.mallorcaweb.com/reports/natural-areas/albufera-in-mallorca/
For walkers and off road-cyclists there is the nearby Parque de Llevant (nature reserve) which is a peninsula
(see a slide show on: http://www.flickr.com/photos/centaurosdelmar/tags/llevant/)
Other places of interest include places such as the Lluc monastery , Pollensa and Fornalutz .

Cala Ratjada / Rajada / Cala Agulla area

Cala Ratjada is a peninsula situated in the north east of the island which is pleasantly quieter than the south west of the island. The hotels here are of modest size. From a distance the dominant feature of the town is still it's medieval church clocktower.
There is a traditional market square with pine trees offering shade (market every Sat morning).
Locally there are a number of superb, natural, sandy beaches including: Cala Agulla, Cala Gat, Son Moll, sa Font de sa Cala and Cala Mesquida.
The lively port area offering boat excursions etc. to keep you fully occupied.
Local activities also include a great Scuba diving centre (see Mero- diving web site and 'live' web cams at mero-cam.com and casanova-well.com).
Tennis clay courts are locally available open to the public at 10/12 euros per hour (we know of 2 locations) each with bar and dining facilities and friendly owners.
If you like horse riding, there are 2 ranches very close by where you can even go 'night-time' riding.
For golfers:
10 minutes by car is the immaculately kept golf course of Capdepera (with it's 6 lakes!) that is reasonably priced and has an excellent website, or you could test your game at Pula (Olazabal connection), Son Servera or Canyamel all within a 15 minute drive away.
You can also visit Colonia St Pere for quiet relaxation and spectacular views across Alcudia bay and the headland of Formentor, or visit Canyamel for it's quiet local beach and beachside restaurants.
For windsurfers or kite surfers Son Serra de Marina is a 25 minute drive and equipment hire is reasonably priced (contact Andy at www.Kiten-Mallorca.de).
The locality offers plenty of variety.

How to get there

Fly to Palma airport, Ryanair and Easyjest often offer good value flights. The apartment is approximatley 55 minutes drive from the airport on good main roads (by-passing all towns en route) and easily located once you reach the resort.
For car hire try the various internet comparison sites as these prices tend to be cheaper than going to companies direct. We would recommend that you choose a company that has an office in the terminal building to make your transition from air to land that bit smoother. We generally use Aurigacrown.
If you wish to travel by bus there are various 'shuttle' services from the airport dropping off at the nearest apartment hotel which is Turo Pins only a short walk from the apartment (the cost is currently approx. 24 euros return per person). example: http://www.palma-airport-transfers.com

Guestbook for Cala Agulla

Just returned 15th Nov 08...
.....wishing we were still out in Mallorca in your delightful apartment. It provided everything we needed and was attractive, spacious, light and bright and well equipped. Excellent. Thanks a lot....
It is a beautiful area which we did not know previously and with lots to do and see
...but the local snorkelling, particularly at Cala Agulla was the best I have known in the Med. Octopus, moray eel, barracuda, bass, mullet, wrasse, bream, weaver fish - you name it - and so tame. Even went swimming with a cormorant! And S'albufera which we did know and the Llevant area which we didn't know were wonderful.
