The Menorca region

Menorca is often described as the jewel of the Balaerics. Totally unspoilt with twice as many beaches as it's neighbour Mallorca, this island really is a lovely place to be. Plenty of historic sites and both the ports of Mahon with it's huge harbour and the old capital Cuitadella well worth a visit. The people are warm and friendly, making it a place you will return to . Try the trotting races in St Luis on a Saturday evening, great fun.
* Menorca is by far the destination for those seeking a more relaxing or family orientated holiday than you might find on its larger sister island, Majorca, but without compromising the fun and entertainment that is there to be had.
* Menorca has a population of approximately 82,000.
* Its highest point, called Monte Toro, is 358 m/1174 ft above sea level.
* Steeped in a history of prehistoric monuments and the worlds second deepest natural harbour in Mahon, the result of French and English rule can be seen in the architecture and local drink, gin.
* Boat trips, bus tours or self drive discoveries are a must to truly see what the island has to offer.
* Local fiestas are fun and exciting times for all the family and can be seen throughout June to September with dancing horses, (horses are a Menorquin passion), parades, singing, dancing and fireworks.
* Menorca is famous for its beaches with over 120 of them which are more than the rest of the Balearic Islands put together.

Cala'n Porter area

Cala en Porter is a small town and home of the famous Cova den Xoroi caves. Well worth a visit by day or night. The beach is one of the best on the island and safe for bathers with good snorkelling and fishing. There are 3 beach bars with a road train travelling around the town every hour or so with plenty of good restaurants and bars to choose from. Mostly catering for families and couples. Some night life if you want it. Several festivals throughout the year. Boat hire available in Mahon harbour.

Cala’n Porter is one of the largest and most established resorts in Menorca, situated on the south coast on top of amazing cliffs and a large horseshoe shaped cove beach with the sand sloping gently into the sea making it perfect for children .
* Accessible by car, bus, bike or even for a day trip by boat it is the ideal destination for holidaymakers.
* The resort offers a wide choice of shops, bars and restaurants that offer everything from trinkets, clothing, and local cuisines to a typically English meal.
* The supermarkets are always well stocked and offer a variety of both English and local cuisine and with the local chemist and hairdressers everything you need is on hand.
* By day you can hire a car and discover the rest of the island, go on a guided tour and let someone else do the driving, just sit back and relax by the pool or at the beach or run off some of the kid’s energy on the trampolines, bouncy castle or at the go cart circuit.
* During the evening you have a choice to chill out at your villa dining Al Fresco which, with the stunning location is probably where you will want to be or, with a great selection of evening entertainment ranging from top of the crop live cabaret, , a game of pool, a boogie at the famous “Xoroi” caves nightclub or just a few drinks in a quiet bar, you have the choice.
* Whatever you are looking for in your holiday, Cala’n Porter is the place to find it.

The Beach

* Accessible by foot down 181 steps, the sloping pavement or by using the land train that runs every 45 minutes the beach is ideal for children and those who prefer to spend the day building sand castles. * The cliff edges that shape the beach into its horseshoe layout are perfect hideouts for fish meaning that a snorkel is a must t There are also restaurants and bars where you can get water, ice-cream, lunch,a glass of wine or a beer. So once you are down at the beach there is no need to go back up again until you are done for the day.
* Sun loungers and umbrellas are available for hire as are pedalos that have a slide on them for added amusement. Boat hire is available in Mahon

A few recommendations:

* Club Menorca - The cliff top restaurant with stunning views of the cove beach and out to sea.
* Sa Païssa – For a meal and then top quality entertainment around the pool with a different act every night.
* Flava Bar – The only place in Cala’n Porter to get a real Doner Kebab! Also a bar that opens till late.
* Visiting in September - The Cala’n Porter fiesta is held the second weekend of September every year, with dancing horses, parades, fireworks and more.
