The Sardinia region
The Sardinia region
Situated on the west part of Italy in Tirreno Sea, just below Corsica Island. Sardinia is one of the most beautiful island of Mediterranean Sea.
This region is characterized by several white sandy beaches alternate with particular rocks with softer lines where winds are stronger and sharp lines where winds are weaker. The view of the whole area is really breathtaking. The alternation of colors, ocher, pink, light and dark blue, green, leave you speechless.
The sand on the seabed and the vegetation in the deeper waters create light and dark stains on the water, a unique play of colors reminiscent of a work of art.
The landscape seems like a dream, but it is real ...it is Sardinia.
The climate is pleasant throughout the year, very hot in summer and mild in spring and autumn. In winter the temperature never goes below the 8-10 °C. The north part is characterized by strong winds and it's very pleasant for wind-surfers and sailing boats.
The sea on the east coast is almost always calm, especially in summer, while on west cost is rougher. This feature makes the east area very suitable for children, also little children. Here the sea is never too deep and the seabed slopes gently, making the cost very safe. You can find the same features on the south and north coasts. On west coasts the seabed is deeper with some exceptions of course.
Throughout the Island there are several archaeological sites. The famous Nuraghi are typical historical stone made buildings with a conical shape.
The nuraghe is a type of megalithic construction. This truncated cone shape were built in the second millennium a.C., from 1800 a.C. until 1100 a.C. These megalithic constructions are the largest and best preserved that can be found today in Europe and are considered as distinctive of Sardinia. Since 1997, the nuragic site “Su Nuraxi” at Barumini, has been classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site
Orosei - Nuoro
Cala Liberotto is a fraction of the town of Orosei in Nuoro province; it is a place known for the beauty of the coast and the wonderful sea.
During 70s of last century many villas arose here; some of them, thanks to the absence of an urban planning, were built directly on cliffs. Fortunately, there are few houses in these conditions; most of the villas develop instead discreetly along the coast, hidden by beautiful pine forest.
Due to construction of these villas various supermarkets, bars, restaurants, pizzerias, ice cream shops, rotisseries, piano bars, etc. Arose. In a few years Cala Liberotto has become one of the most popular location of Nuoro province and beyond. Fortunately speculation has been suddenly stopped and Cala Liberotto could keep intact the landscape features that made it famous.
Building restriction led to the development of the village of Sos Alinos, 1 km from Cala Liberotto, inland with many services such as supermarkets, tobacconists, bars, pizzerias, shops, restaurants, piano bar, emergency room, pharmacy, residences, hotels, etc..
Cala Liberotto is a very popular touristic destination for many Italians as well as for Swiss and Germans. In Cala Liberotto you will not find a chaotic environment as in Costa Smeralda, you will not find any clubs and local "trend," although there are some places where you can dance or listen live music?. ??There are many farm (agriturismo), classical tipycal restaurants and pizzerias.
In short ?Cala Liberotto is the ideal destination for those who want to enjoy the beautiful sea, relax and enjoy in an healthy, sporty and romantic way. A place to "recharge" yourself to face the hard and cold continental winter.???
There are many families with children, couples and sports groups; these one are particularly attracted by beautiful Sardinian spring that allows them to enjoy riding the bike, surrounded by an awakening fragrant nature.??
Villa Arancio is a very quiet area since it is located along a little traffic, no outlet, side street, parallel to the sea. This road serves a few houses, so families love Villa Arancio apartments, also if they are in groups since there are four two-rooms apartments and a four-rooms apartment. Despite the peace and the privacy Villa Arancio is convenient for services; it is just a few hundred meters from the main shops in Cala Liberotto and about 250 meters from the main beach.
Activities you can do in Cala Liberotto are manifold; besides free swimming in the sea and relaxing sun bath on the beautiful sand you can not miss snorkeling with a simple diving mask.
At the newsstand you can rent bicycles and rickshaws and you can reserve boat or raft trips or organized excursions by quads on dirt hinterland roads (don't miss it!). There is also the possibility to rent a car with chauffeur that allows you to enjoy the surroundings and the local clubs without giving up an “Ichnusa” beer or a glass of “Cannonau” wine. Nearby you can rent pedalò, canoe or windsurf at the special point on the beach in front of Tirreno Hotel.
CALA LIBEROTTO BEACHES
Villa Arancio apartments are about 250m from the main beach which is at the end of the avenue that leads from Sos Alinos to Cala Liberotto and then to the sea. This road ends with a round open space often used as a parking.
The shoreline of Cala Liberotto beach is divided into two parts by a characteristic
rock formation that develops towards the sea creating two creeks, a smaller protected one and a larger one with the characteristic pond besides sand dunes, rich in wildlife (many species of birds and fishes); this shape makes it one of the most beautiful beaches of Sardinia.
This pond is a nursery for fishes. As a result of winter rains, the natural barrier of sand towards the sea is shot down by the river current; young fishes, grown in the pond, take the opportunity to go offshore. At the same time the females from the sea come inside the pond to spawn.
During the spring, with his strength and perseverance, the sea overcomes the force of the river and settles back the sand blocking the exit of th fishes to the sea; fresh water filter into the sandy ground but the fries will stay inside the pond protected by numerous marine predators.
The dangers, however, are not entirely disappeared for the fries because the groups of canes along the pond are the ideal habitat for many birds and some harmless water snakes (there are no poisonous snakes in Sardinia).
To achieve these two fantastic and comfortable beaches you have to walk along an easy road or a little seasonal trail (open on summer) through the reeds; both paths are 250 meters long.
THE COVES OF CALA LIBEROTTO
Cala Liberotto is characterized by a lot of bays and coves with sandy beaches, set among the rocks of a particular color, sometimes fading to pink and sometimes to pale yellow. On some beaches, the depth of the backdrop degrades in a gradual but steady way; and on other beaches degrades in a very soft way allowing children's bathing enjoying the long waves. Beaches are all free and it is not admitted to leave umbrellas planted in the sand during the night (you risk a penalty and a kidnapping). The beach in front of Tirreno Hotel has an equipped area with chairs, beach umbrellas, beach volley and there you have the opportunity to rent pedal boats and windsurf (you can take private lessons). The cliffs of Cala Liberotto are low and accessible, and they represent a good place for rod fishing (surf casting); since the water is particularly clean it is rare to find mussels but it is easy to find sea urchins, although recently their presence has greatly declined because of their catching. Fishes below the surface are the classic Mediterranean fishes and it is easy to see bream, mullet, sarpi, bream, sparla, sole, weaver, stingrays, mullet, octopus, many shrimps, and much more; there are, although it is hard to see them, bass, a kind of barracuda. This one is absolutely not dangerous for humans and has a smaller size than the tropical species of the same family. In short, a lot of beautiful and .... tasty fishes.
