The Valenciana region

Benidorm is only 2 km. away and has lots of nightlife and activities, endless bars and restaurants, and beautiful clean beaches. Terra Mitica theme park, Terra Natura (animals), Mundomar dolphin park, Aqualandia water theme park, lots of water sports, Karting, markets, lots of shops. Fabulous Cabaret at Benidorm Palace and even a local Casino.

Cala de Finestrat is much more peaceful yet still plenty to do, enough bars, restaurants and shops to keep you happy, with a lovely crescent beach close to the apartment. There is a frequent local bus service to Benidorm and even one to Carrefours a hypermarket and shopping mall.

Gualdest is a stunning mountain village, with spectacular views, great restaurants and local souvenir shops. Further along the cost you will find Altea, which is again simply stunning and boasts some of Spain best restaurants high up in the Old Town, this is really a must and I recommend a visit in the day and a trip back after sunset to see the lights and have dinner under the stars in one of its many restaurants.

Cala De Finestrat

The Costa Blanca is a great location for holidays all year round. The area is warm during the summer months and doesn't get unbearably hot unlike some resorts further south on the Costa del Sol for example, and the winter is lovely and mild making it a great winter holiday destination to escape the grey winter of the UK.

Buses – There is a bus stop at the bottom of the hill (Cala De Finestrat). The bus stop is located just past the Chinese’s restaurant. The bus stop on the Chinese’s side will take you into town, only €1.20 per journey and buses are about every 10 minutes. The No. 12 Bus on the opposite side of the road will take you to the commercial centre where the main super market is Carrefour and a host of other High street shops and restaurants or into town on the side of the Chinese. You can catch the 41 into town and to Benidorm Bus Station and new shopping centre.

Taxi – we usually catch a bus to town for the evening and a taxi home. The taxi rank is near Dove Park ( Parque De Elche ELX) on the edge of old town and usually costs around €8 to go back to the apartment, ask for Cala Villajoyosa and direct when you get closer to the apartment. Just at the bottom of the hill you will find a taxi rank near the beach, there are always taxis here for most of the day and evening.

New Town – This is at the opposite end to the apartment. This end of town has its own charm, with cheap shops selling everything, usually for under €6. New Town is also filled with English Pubs, Bar and places to eat, Beer from €1 a pint to Egg and Chips galore – Benidorm always has something for everyone.

Restaurants – Old Town – We can recommend trying any of the Spanish tapas bars, great service and good food if you search the streets of Old Town you can always find a number of very nice places to eat, some you will need to book as they are very popular.

Cala De Finestrat – offer a good choice of restaurants at reasonable prices, if you don’t fancy going into town. New Town – Chinese restaurants are very popular and offer exceptional value, often a meal for two will be no more than €15 and include wine. The best Chinese is in Benidorm call China Town which you will find opposite the Poseidon Hotel.

Internet – Should you wish to access the internet the best place I have found is near the Bali Hotel, head up to the Bali and follow the one way street past the hotel and on the left you will find Saloon Bali with about 15 PC’s and a good internet connection. If you are looking for free wireless then head to the old town and you can access free internet at Caspar’s bar, just ask them to turn it on, or if you are at the shopping centre next to Carrefour – La Marina Shopping Centre – near the main door next to the coffee shops you can logo on for free, the town hall is also a good place to find free WIFI, however these may change.

Attractions – Benidorm and the surrounding area is a positive playground for all age groups. We can recommend Mundomar and Aqualandia are great fun; look for the offers at the water park you can gain entry after 3.00 pm for just €16 per adult. Terra Natura and Terra Mitica are located just towards the back of Benidorm and are the local theme parks and a must for you visit

Benidorm beaches - the Levante and the Poniente. Benidorm's beaches are justifiably famous and the resort's continuing success owes much to those fabulous golden crescents. Stretching for a luxuriant six kilometres from Levante Beach in the east to Poniente Beach in the west, consistently high quality blue flag bathing, lifeguard patrols, a wealth of water sports and an impressive approach to cleanliness mean these beaches are among the best in Europe. Each has its own particular character so take your pick-

Levante Beach -This is the sandy holiday hub for those who're out for fun and frolics, and is known as the sunrise beach. In high season it can get pretty crowded, although there are quite literally thousands of sun beds (over 5000 in case you're curious). It's backed by a broad promenade sporting bars and cafes and in short...it's lively! The beach is sandy and slopes gently into the water which makes for relatively safe bathing for the young or less confident water baby. Further out to sea are swinging bridges, diving boards, rafts, slides, a wet playground for the energetic, and lifeguards are on hand throughout the summer season. Families are exceptionally well catered for. The children enjoy all day entertainment - which can only be good news for parents. Ever experienced that awful moment when having arranged to meet your kids under the sign up yonder, you realise there's a veritable glut of identical signs? Then you'll be mightily reassured by the Council's initiative which provides huge, colourful picture boards to be used as meeting points. Very helpful to children too - I mean, where are they supposed to go for their next lolly? They knew mum's sunshade was the blue one..Like the other few hundred...phew.

Poniente Beach - Beyond the Old Town, PONIENTE BEACH is to the west of LEVANTE, and comprises a mammoth golden curl of excellent fine sand. Huge! If you don't want quite such a hectic time having fun in the sun this will be your better option as PONIENTE tends to be slightly less crowded. Families, young un's and the not-so-young are very well catered for...There's still plenty of facilities close at hand and the inevitable (yet necessary) army of sunbeds, but in general there's a more relaxed and laid back feel here - and a bit more space. Families, young un's and the not-so-young- but-young-at-heart are very well catered for and have all they need to enjoy great swimming (there're no rocks) and sunbathing. Again, the sand is spotlessly clean each morning. You can even see the tracks where the hoover's been! There's also a treat in store at the end of the day as PONIENTE boasts some great sunsets. Fine, clean, gently sloping sand Starts close to the old town and easily accessible on foot.

MALPAS BEACH - You'll find MALPAS BEACH close to the harbour, beneath the port and the castle cliffs. Small, pleasant, and usually not very crowded, it's different again to Benidorm's two other main beaches. Dogs are not allowed on the beaches.

Playa Del Tiximo – this beach is right at the other end of Benidorm and is a very small secluded beach to the north of Levante Beach, you will need to follow the road up the hill at the end of Levante and you will find a small beach with crystal clear blue / green waters.

Cala Finestrat – The beach at the bottom of the hill gets very busy later in the day, but has clear shallow waters ideal for little ones. It has its life guard and the bay is surrounded by small cafés and restaurants, we love to sit and people watch outside KALAKALA and enjoy and evening drink, watching the sea hit the rocks and watch life pass by.

Nudist Beach – If you head toward Villa joyosa on the N332 after about 5 mins you will see on the left the Casino, turn left before the Casino and follow the signs for the Playa, the drive is again about 5 mins and you will come to a secluded little bay with a car park, where you can bath as nature intended, I have to be honest – I’ve never been that brave.

Playa De Torres – again follow the N332 south toward Villa joyosa and look out for the signs for the Playa De Torres on the left this is between the Casino and the Port. It is a secluded family beach – usually only with just a very few people on it, and served by a small café, it is so very different to Benidorm and a million miles from what you would expect to find in the area and somewhere that is so close to one of the biggest resort in Europe. If you want to see real Spain and have a very relaxing time this is really the place to visit.

Markets – La Cala, as you walk down the hill from the apartment has markets on Tuesdays and Saturday, there is also a market on a Friday as you head into the Cala and pass the bus stops.

Altea – to the North of Benidorm (Away from Alicante) on the N 332 is about 15 minutes by car, the Old Town is set in the hill so be sure to take a departure from the main road, up to the church and from the square you will discover some of the very best restaurants in Spain – Oustau is our favourite, you can dine under the stars and sample some great cuisine. This is a must for any visit. Meaning 'health to all' (from the moorish name 'Althaya'). Altea is a world away from mass tourism. The town is situated on a large bay with a sandy beach and modern marina; however stroll into the old town to discover its real charm. Walk up the steep narrow streets that wind their way up the hillside (follow signs for 'Poble Antic') until you reach the church of 'Virgen del Consulo', with its rounded dome of blue and white ceramic tiles. Bob through the archway and you find yourself in the picturesque old town that was walled for protection against the Berber Pirates that ravaged this coast. The impressive church overlooks whitewashed buildings and a bustling square, filled with quality restaurants and cafes that encourage you to linger over lunch. Inside the church is flooded with light through the glorious stained glass windows and the murals and sculptures on display are equally beautiful. Back outside look at the bell towers and you'll notice that one of the three, destroyed in the Spanish civil war, has been left as a symbolic reminder of the destruction that conflict causes. These cobbled streets, filled with wrought iron balconies overflowing with flowers, urge you to explore. Wander by the stylish shops selling handmade pottery, jewellery and other artefacts and you can see the old walled town has a unique charm. The many small art galleries reflect that Altea was a haven for artists because of the fabulous light experienced here and along with the artisans, writers and musicians they gave the place a bohemian feel. Finally don't miss the opportunity of a photograph of the views. From the church square you can enjoy the vista of the sweeping bay, the mountains and a distant Benidorm with its high rise buildings.

Albir, Costa Blanca, a great family holiday resort. The little resort of Albir in the area of Alfaz del Pí is wedged between Benidorm and Altea. It is ideally suited for those who’d like an alternative to the busy beaches of Benidorm, but still like to enjoy ‘sol y playa’ and all the other amenities of a good beach resort. Just follow the N332 to the North of Benidorm. So... once you have arrived in this lovely place and are preparing to have the time of your life, you may as well put some facts under you hat – while you’re ahead. Beach and Sea Albir’s beach is called “Playa de Racó de l’Albir” and is approx. 590 meters long, continually receiving the coveted European Union Blue Ribbon award annually since 2001. If you’re early enough – or just lucky, you can park your car right on the ‘Paseo de Estreles’, behind the beach with views across to the impressive ‘Peñon de Ifach’ and the resort of Calpe. Almost as pleasant as the view, is the spacious and quiet atmosphere of the beaches. During the swimming season, the beach is constantly monitored by 3 life-guards. At daytime an ambulance is permanently parked on stand-by and for minor injuries (such as abrasions) you can visit the permanent first-aid post at the beginning of the boulevard. There are public toilets situated in the middle of the boulevard so you have to walk (or run, depending how pressing the call of nature is) an equidistance from either end of the beach. Also, along the beach you will find facilities to rinse your feet with fresh water before you step onto the boulevard. And for the junior visitors to the beach, there are 2 children’s playgrounds where the little ones can have some safe fun. The playgrounds are unattended so parent will have to arrange that for themselves. When the architects designed how the modern Albir would look, they made some very good decisions, they took care of wide streets lined with trees providing the spacious atmosphere that are so well known from the beautiful cities of Spain. Well, Albir certainly breathes this atmosphere but with a big difference - there’s plenty of parking space (except the beach) and it’s free! Can you say the same of your home town? Restaurants, Cafes and the Bars In the quiet and calm atmosphere of Albir, you will still find plenty of occasions to excite your senses. Because the service providers of Albir are geared towards catering to the northern European public, you won’t find much to be desired for. You’ll discover an abundance of restaurants, bars and café’s – some having cool and shady terraces - all on the roads leading from the entrance of the village to the beach, so you don’t have to walk a marathon to be able to enjoy them all! Get yourself a front row seat at one the many places on the boulevard with excellent food, drink and fair prices.

Guadalest – Set in the hills toward the back of Benidorm, about 30 mins by car, is a traditional Spanish mountain village, with fantastic views of the Costa Blanca, don’t visit at night as nothing is open.

La Nucia – Market day is Sunday – again set in the hills toward the back of Benidorm, a great small town that comes to life with the market selling local goods and produce.

Villa joyosa – If you head up to the main road and south on the N332 you will see signs for Villa joyosa – it’s about a 10 min drive from the apartment, the main street is a typical Spanish working town, but if you follow the signs for the PORT from the N332 you will come to the beach front and a nice relaxed beach front, much less busy than it’s bigger neighbours. There is easy parking along the beach with a number of great places to eat and drink; this is an ideal family beach.

The lively resort of Benidorm is only 10 mins drive from the apartment and everything you will need is here.

"Great value for money spacious apartment in friendly environment"

This apartment is about 10 minutes walk up a fairly steep hill which whilst that might not suit all does get you away from any noise of bars when you return at night. The apartment is well equipped and friendly help is always to hand if you encounter any little problems. We have stayed here twice now and would probably return again.

"Great apartment, already booked for next year!"

We stayed at Las Azaleas in July and had a great time, the booking process was very quick and easy, lots of information about the apartments and location. The apartment was spacious and had everything you could need to make you feel at home, Sky TV is a great benefit, and being able to get all the washing done before coming home was a real bonus to. The balcony is large enough to seat 6 on and we often all had breakfast out there before heading out for the day. The apartment was well equipped, very clean and had a great view. There is parking outside the apartment too, and always spaces so made it really easy having a car for the holiday.

La Cala is a great little beach very family friendly and very Spanish, Benidorm is only a few minutes away by bus or car and we even walked to the Old Town one day in just around an hour. All in all we had a great stay and fantastic holiday – we are looking forward to returning next year and would not hesitate to recommend these apartments or La Cala.

"Fabulous"

Stayed here for 10 weeks over the winter months & everything was spot-on. All the fun of Benidorm without the hustle & bustle. Ideally situated at Cala Finestrat with views of the bay. Easy walking distance to the local beach, restaurants, bus stop & twice weekly market.

The apartment had all the equipment necessary for an easy stay & I would heartily recommend a stay here. In fact, we are already thinking about next winter here. Excellent!

"Excellent accomodation and really helpful, friendly hirer."

I rented this apartment last minute for friends to stay in as our own was too small. I knew the area already so appreciated this apartments location (which is stunning). Upon our arrival we were met by a very polite, friendly man who made us most welcome and efficiently explained all the "ins and outs" of the property. The flat itself is light, spacious and airey. The beds were comfortable and facilities more than adequate. A great property for a great holiday. Thank you very much.

"Good location and lovely apartment"

The apartment is lovely overall and has everything you need for a great holiday.Very clean and comfortable, however the sofa was uncomfortable. The beds are single and if pushed together to make a double easily part when your on them but nevertheless, very cumfy. The owner has made available all possible information of the area etc in order to help you enjoy your holiday. The view from the balcony was lovely as was the outside space and swimming pool. (parasol and beach chairs to have available would have been handy). The beach and shops etc are close by but the apartment is at top of a steep hill and in my opinion a car is a must. My overall opinion is that the apartment is lovely and in a good location (all things considered), and I would definately be happy to go back. Mark is a lovely guy, helpful and always contactable if needed.
