Les Pegouries
About the home
This is the real "France profonde"! 'Les Pégouriés' is an ideal base from which to explore the wonderful Lot and Célé valleys, where the rivers cut deep into the limestone, creating beautiful and dramatic scenery. Villages cling to the cliffs, and traditional farms still flourish, with their fields of tobacco, maize and sunflowers. The history and way of life of former generations are evident in all you see, from the cave paintings of Peche Merle, the nearby picturesque village of St Cirq-la-Popie, the chateaux and the ancient places of worship, to the simple hamlets and villages, the rolling cultivated land and the wild landscapes beyond.
There is something for everyone here:- beautiful countryside, abundant wildlife, a wealth of history and rural tradition and, of course, excellent food and wines.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Lot region

The Lot Valley has long been a favourite holiday destination for the French themselves, which tells you a great deal about the area. This is the traditional 'France profonde', deeply rural and unchanged in many ways over centuries. Stunning countryside, delightful medieval towns and villages, prehistoric dolmens and cave dwellings, bustling street markets, thriving wildlife...the Lot Valley carries on a way of life long-vanished in many parts of the 'modern world'.
Summers are long and hot, with sunshine generally expected from April to November...
The Cajarc area
A ten-minute drive down the hill from 'Les Pégouriés' takes you to Cajarc, a small town on the river Lot with a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, offering a variety of local shops, restaurants and other facilities. It has a good municipal swimming pool - including a toddlers' pool - and a pretty waterfront for strolling, dining, or taking river boat trips.
You will find plenty to do here - simply exploring the local countryside is rewarding whilst places of interest within an easy drive include Cahors vineyards, Albi with its extraordinary cathedral and the stunning new viaduct at Millau. Closer to home, the towns of Figeac and Villefranche-de-Rouergue are interesting and lively, and the smallest of villages will often offer up a hidden treasure - a superb family-run restaurant perhaps, or an exquisite Romanesque church...visit our website for pictures and local information.
There are many local events and festivals, including the 'Africajarc' series of concerts at the end of July, featuring African music, together with African-influenced jazz and rock. For rhe more traditionally-minded, visitors are always welcome at village fetes and 'mechouis' (sheep-roasts).
