Beautifully restored house with large swimming pool set in French countryside. Authentic stone house and barns tastefully rebuilt as a family home with original Quercynoise character intact, and the light and air of a California villa. Great kitchen with views, each meal is an occasion with ingredients from local fresh markets. Perfect for families and friends, with lots of privacy. Each bedroom suite has its own bathroom. Indoor/outdoor living on terraces that surround the house and pool.
In picturesque Lot River Valley with prehistoric caves, medieval villages, castles, navigable rivers and secret swimming holes----like the Dordogne and Provence but without the crowds! Nearby Cajarc, a Roman bastide town, offers all services (post office, banks, bakeries, market, cafes, marina, etc.) plus lots of history and charm. Spend an afternoon in St. Cirq La Popie, voted France's favorite 'beautiful village', an easy 10 minute drive from the house. A bustling art center and medieval fortified village, St. Cirq LaPopie fascinates with artist's studios, dramatic views, unique architecture, cafes and restaurants. Amazing hiking and biking on quiet country roads and trails through fields, woods, and villages, boating on the river, wineries, horseback riding, parasaililng, spelunking, shopping, music festivals and theatre----so much to do for the whole family. This small part of France is still authentic "old France", and within the "dark skies" triangle---where you can star-gaze after dinner on the terrace and be amazed! A great place to unwind and have fun.

The Midi-Pyrénées region
RETURN TO THE 15TH CENTURY----WITH ALL MODERN AMENITIES! The Lot River Valley is a picturesque, rural area through which the Lot River meanders. The house is located within the Parc Naturel du Lot, a designation reserved for those areas of France with beautiful landscapes and historic character. The landscape is dominated by woodlands, farms, and historic villages. It's a great area for hiking, bicycling and exploring endlessly fascinating medieval villages. One is immersed in a milieu now gone in most of our lives, peaceful and serene.
The medieval village of St. Cirq La Popie, voted by the French as the most popular of all the "Beaux Villages de France", is a 10 minute drive down the river along country lanes. Visits to the local prehistoric caves in the area (Pech Merle one of the most important) are a must. One hour away is the ancient pilgrimage town of Rocamadour, where the sword of Roland is buried in stone.
Roman bastide town of Cajarc nearby offers shopping, bank, P.O., bakeries, restaurants. Prehistoric sites and caves (Pech Merle, Gouffre de Padirac, etc.), fresh markets, boating and kayaking, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, and wine-tasting all within easy reach. Sited above the Lot River, the property is in the regional Parc Naturel du Lot, an historic farming community, peaceful and serene, with great views and a superb landscape. Near the ancient pilgrimage trails, the Lot Valley boasts endless hiking trails and exploratory rambles through oak woodlands, river valleys and limestone cliffs. Local fresh markets in surrounding towns daily, a dream location for cooks. Local specialties include strawberries, saffron, truffles, eau de prune, lamb, canard, foie gras, and abundant wines of the regional appellation, Cahors. Major towns of Cahors, Figeac and Villefranche are less than an hour's drive. The must-see medieval site of Rocamadour is an hour away. Toulouse, Albi, the Dordogne River and the Tarn River are good day trips. Nearest airports are Toulouse (1 1/2 hours) and Rodez (1 hour). The house is well-maintained, and cleaning services are available.
The house is on a country lane, between two small hamlets in a farming area on the bluffs above the Lot River. Neighbors are mostly farming families, with a few Parisiens who retreat here to country houses in summers. The weather in summer is balmy, great swimming and walking weather. Days can be spent lolling by the pool, exploring the countryside, dining al fresco on local, fresh food from the local open air markets. There are also excellent restaurants in Limogne, Cajarc, Cahors and Figeac.
There are daily fresh markets in the neighboring towns almost every day of the week. The Cahors open air market on Wednesday and Saturday is well worth a visit. The nearby town of Limogne has a vibrant Sunday morning market, frequented by local families and producers. These markets are not just places to buy great, local produce and goods----they are events in themselves and great for people-watching.
Brocantes (open air flea markets and antique markets) pop up throughout the summer at various towns throughout the Lot. The Lot is well known for its art and ceramics fairs during the summer. An annual ceramics fair is held in Cajarc in the summer, with potters from all over France participating.
Music abounds in the Lot in the spring, summer and fall. Both the Cahors Blues Festival and Africajarc are international events that draw musicians and spectators from around the world. One is likely to find a string quartet in any small village, performing impromptu for villagers and tourists.

"A fantastic house in which to relax and explore the Lot Valley"
My wife and I stayed in this house for several days. The location is ideal, centrally located for lots of exploring; the site is beautifully sited on bottom land along the river. The house in very comfortable and easy to relax in; the recent remodeling makes it a great place to live. There are many hiking trails and several local villages are an easy walk. Within a short drive you'll find larger towns like Cajarc, Figeac, and Cahours (among others). Every day, one of the towns has a market, so the shopping for food is fun and you get all the fresh fruits and vegetables you could ever want. If you decide not to cook in the great kitchen in the house, there are a number of wonderful restaurants not far away. There are also wineries, ancient caves, ruins of houses and churches, etc. You will be hard pressed to find a better locale or a better house. And Sheila was great to work with. I'd return in a minute.

"Your dream come true - a taste of paradise!"
Every romantic idyll of a country home in France comes true when you stay in this lovely home! Like to cook? Cook in this well equipped kitchen surrounded by views of the French countryside and using ingredients from your local marché. Eat in the lovely dining room or better yet outdoors in the garden, front garden for breakfast, back garden for dinner. Plan to share a house in France with family or friends? Perfect choice because each area is private so that you can enjoy being together without sacrificing privacy. Kids? Any age from young children to teenagers will find lots to do, leaving you to enjoy your vacation. This authentic house has been tastefully restored with loving attention to every detail. We felt we were living in an issue of architectural Digest. We stayed here for a week last year and thought we had died and gone to heaven. Why had we only planned on one week? Not only is this house lovelier than we dreamed, the area is the best-kept secret in France with so much to see and do. Next door to the very popular Dordogne Region, the Lot Valley has the same prehistoric caves, medieval hill towns, troglodyte ruins, castles, navigable rivers, and secret swimming holes, all without the crowds. Sightseeing was fun for kids as well as adults. As if that weren't enough, the Lot is a region known for gastronomy, the best of France. Once you've been here, you will never return to Provence! We can't wait to come back here, and the next time will be a longer stay. One more plus is Sheila, the owner, a true Francophile who willingly shares her knowledge of the region to make your stay even more enjoyable. It really is heaven on earth to be here!

"Idyllic French getaway, perfect setting, lovely home, convenient to sights!"
Maison Bons is a perfect quiet getaway in the Lot Valley in France. It is close to many wonderful sights among lovely farmlands, uncrowded roads and beautiful old towns nestled in the river valley. The hiking is amazing. Many trails and old pilgrimage sights to sample in walking distance of the house. Market towns and wineries are nearby to sample everything fresh and local. Antique markets and flee markets abound in a different town every week during the summer. The house is charming and welcoming, very much a french farm house only modernized and new. The patios are great for sunning and relaxing by the infinity pool. No detail was overlooked in making our stay everything we had hoped for.
