About this location
The Midi-Pyrénées region
The Lot valley, set in the Quercy regional park, may be familiar to you as a quality producer of French foods such as truffles, foie gras and duck. In terms of tourism, the Lot valley is to the French, what the Dordogne is to the British. It is a deeply rural and profoundly French place and you cannot help but leave modern life behind and slow down to keep pace.
Despite the pace of life, the Lot is full of activities for everyone from canoeing and kayaking down the rivers to viewing historical sites of cave paintings over 20,000 years old and castles with grand histories of crusading times. Mountain bikes, horses or even your own two feet can be used to cross the miles of tracks through breath taking scenery. In your journey, it is not uncommon to encounter a farmer, in the middle of the road or track, on a bicycle with dogs moving a small herd of cows to another grazing area. And of course, there is village life and frequent local markets which are not only for shopping but also for socializing and people watching.
During the summer months, there is a catalogue of cultural activities from a jazz festival in Cahors to an African cultural festival in Carjarc. Daily, you can find performances of music and theatre. In the winter, there are the internationally renowned truffle markets in Limogne.
