The Scottish Highlands region

Natural and untouched, a place that has been unspoilt by the demands of tourism or commercial interests, the Highlands of Scotland is one of Britain's most beautiful and stunning holiday destinations. Here you will find Britain's highest mountain ranges, miles of open countryside and a multitude of lochs; all this and an untouched coastline with picturesque coves and pristine clean beaches. This is the place for a great ‘outdoors' holiday with plenty of activities for all ages; including wonderful walking and cycling, canoeing, fishing, golf and sailing, beach combing and wildlife watching. The list goes on. There are also lots of historical sites and ancient towns to discover in the Highlands which you'll find throughout the region as you travel along its quiet and beautiful country roads.

The village of Lybster, 5 miles from the cottage, is well worth a visit not just for the amenities it offers, but also to enjoy a walk around the attractive harbour populated with numerous boats and surrounded by cliffs. This part of the northern coastline with its clear, sparkling waters has some of the best beaches in Britain. The area offers many fabulous walks through forest, coast and country with lots of historic interest along the way and many ancient sites. The area is rich in wildlife and it is possible to spot otters, seals, puffins and dolphins to name but a few. The medieval town of Wick offers a range of interesting shops and eateries whilst there are many other attractions also within easy reach – the Castle of Mey for example, once owned by the Queen Mother, makes a wonderful day out as does a boat trip to admire the amazing variety of bird life populating this area of coastline. For a more energetic day, sailing, canoeing, surfing, body boarding, cycling and horse riding are all available in the local area.
