The Queensland / Far North region
Kuranda was founded in 1876 and inhabited by the Djabugay aboriginal people. Tourism began in the area at the beginning of the twentieth century when it became known as Kuranda The Beautiful by the thousands of tourists who came to Far North Queensland.
The village is located in the rainforest 330 metres above sea level in the Cairns Highlands. The climate is cooler and much less humid and just 30 km from Cairns up the scenic Kuranda Range Road with views overlooking the Great Barrier Reef. It is a place to explore and enjoy in all seasons.
Kuranda is surrounded by World Heritage listed wet tropics rainforest with approximately 1,200 species of flowering plants, 800 of which are rainforest trees.
The Cairns Highlands, also known as the Atherton Tablelands, is the bird watching capital of Australia. There are over 430 bird species in the Wet Tropics and the Great Barrier Reef making Kuranda Villas the perfect base for bird watching and wildlife tours. If you're a keen birdwatcher Kuranda Villas is a great base from where you can explore the many bird trails of Tropical Queensland.

Further details outdoors: With our desire to give something back to the environment and reduce our carbon footprint, we have purchased rainforest trees from Nadine O'Brien of Curlew Nursery at Koah. For every confirmed booking for Kuranda Villas from 1st June 2009 the Koah Revegetation Group will plant a tree for us along the Clohesy and Barron Rivers to stabilise the riverbanks. The plantings will take place in the "wet season" when the rainfall is plentiful. Guests who live in the rainforested regions of Far North and North Queensland have the choice of picking a species of tree from Curlew Nursery's plant list to take home with them to plant in their garden, if they prefer. In addition, guests can also choose to purchase trees at a cost of AUD$2.50 per tree for planting by the Koah Revegetation Group.

Guestbook for Kuranda Villas - Villa 1
A real treat for us to spend a couple of days in Kuranda and enjoy this lovely villa. Butterflies, birds, koalas, jungle walks and we saw a couple of bush turkeys. Much cleaner, more relaxing, more spacious and more "holiday-like" than Cairns. The kids recommend the icecream from the famous red icecream van and we loved the lemongrass and ginger tea from a cafe in the village. Thanks Melissa.
The Bennett Family, Cambridge, UK 20 August 2009
Thank you Melissa & Warren we had a lovely time staying in Kuranda Villas! The villa was spotlessly clean and comfy and we really appreciated all of the little extra thoughtful touches (especially the coffee!) The villa was very kid-friendly and our little one loved the garden. We also loved our time in Far North Queensland, there is so much to see and do. We would love to come back again one day!

Hi Melissa, we love your place - very comfortable and certainly filled our needs. We are a family of 5 (three generations) from Western Canada. Found your place on the internet and your availability. Courtesy and location exceeded our expectations. Beautiful gem - will send others your way. Thanks so much.
The Whitnack Family, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, 2 August 2009
Thank you very much Melissa, worth a million and we had 6 nights of relaxation in a lovely place. Great touches like a steamer. A splendid chance to explore a great little town, which anyone would be lucky to call home. Our friends in Melbourne will love to hear about this little piece of paradise.
Dennis & Anne, Victoria 3 July 2009
Hi Melissa, I just wanted to send a small note to say a huge thank you! Our stay at Kuranda Villas was ideal. It was a perfect location from which we explored Kuranda Village itself and its many tourist activities. Your contact and correspondence with us leading up to our stay was nothing short of professional and made us feel very welcomed! Thank you for all your time and effort in making our stay in Kuranda wonderful! I hope that we will soon venture back to explore Kuranda and its surrounds further.
