The Sardinia region

You can reach the most beautiful beaches of South Sardinia: it’s a marvellous experience to find rocky and sandy coasts with no buildings all around and that are still not even discovered. A splendid coastline, characterised by long expanses of fine, golden sand, but also by sheer cliffs dropping down to the blue sea: this is what nature can offer you in South West Sardinia.

Cagliari / Sant'Antioco area

S.Antioco Basilica: First built in the early Christian era, then, in 566 it became a Bizantine church built with the structure of the greek cross, similar to those at San Saturnino at Cagliari. Finally in 1102 the church was restructured for the final time by the “Vittorini”nuns from Marseille who lengthened the central nave westwards. In the basement of the basilica you can visit the early Christian catacombs made from ancient Punic hypogeums and were in 1615 the mortal remains of the saint were found .
Sant’Antioco boasts numerous well-known resort. Cliffs and beaches alternate around the island. Among the beaches it is worth nothing: Maladroxia, Coaquaddus, Cala Sapone, Capo Sperone and Cala Lunga. To admire them in all their splendour we suggest a boat trip and also a dive; an ideal spot for diving is on the S.W. of the island where you can admire the marvellous formations of gorgonia and coral. For sailors, the town offers a turist port with moorings for about 200 boats and various services. We also have a sailing club that organizes important regattas.
Festival of Sant’Antioco: (15 days after Easter and 1 August). The oldest festival in Sardinia. The procession which takes place on Monday is typically Sardinian. It leaves from the parochial church and folk groups from all over Sardinia take part. There are women in traditional costume who carry cakes on floats decorated with flowers and children dressed in their white tunics typical of the first communion. Four men carry the statue of the Saint who is dressed in a red tunic with puffed sleeves as traditionally worn by doctors of his times. Festival of San Pietro (29 June).
