Home description
In the heart of Castello - the medieval high area of Cagliari, within it's walls and towers, with it's wonderful view on the whole town, on the sea and the port from the white Bastioni - the apartment is situated at the second floor of an historical palace, built in the 13th century on a more ancient ruined building.
A bus stops right in front of the apt, taking you to "Piazza Jenne" and to the buses for the beaches in about 20 minutes: the "Poetto" white beach and the beautiful "Calamosca" sea.
At a 10 minutes walking from the apt you can find a big parking area - free on lunch and night time - and, at a 5 minutes walking, just out of the ancient walls, the very centre of the town with it's shops, caffès and restaurants, with it's squares and the fish, meat and vegetables market of Santa Chiara; there are even three electric panoramic lifts taking you to the lower town.

The Sardinia region
The weather in Cagliari, situated in the very south of Sardinia region, is really fine: even in winter we have a lot of warm, sunny days, when we love to go to the Poetto little restaurants to eat sea urchins, fresh fishes and have a glass of vermentino wine.
Other beautiful places are easily reachables by bus or by train (even the famous "Trenino Verde", the old 1800 century train), like "Chia laguna" beach, Nora archeological site, "Villasimius" town and beach, the Barumini "Nuraghi" ancient buildings, and so on.
Cagliari / Cagliari Centre area
Cagliari is a beautiful city on the sea, with its medieval walls and towers, its "Poetto" long beach, the salinas beloved by thousands flamingos that you can easily see from the beach.
There are a lot of beaches to choose for your sunny days, and a lot of restaurants, caffès and discos for your evenings and nights; car is not necessary, you can arrive anywhere by foot and buses.
In the country near the city you can find other renowned beaches to visit, historical and prehistorical sites with guided visits.

How to get there
It is really easy to get the apt, from the near airport of Cagliari-Elmas you can take the bus, cheap and leaving every 20-30 minutes, till Piazza Matteotti the main bus stop in front of the harbour; from Piazza Matteotti you can take another bus till Piaza Yenne, then the last going to "Castello" high medieval area, and stopping in front of the apt. Or you can take a taxi from the airport, or from Piazza Matteotti to the apt. You can even reach the apt, from Piazza Matteotti, by feet, 15-20 minutes walking, but it is really hard work with heavy bags. If you rent a car, there is a big parking area near "Castello" area, free the night and from 13.00 to 16.00 p.m., in Santa Margherita street in front of the Civil Hospital. Once in the apt, just go all around, you have the whole life-town and at maximum 20 minutes walking. to the Poetto beach (12 km of white sandy beach), just take the bus in frt of the apt, then another bus from Piazza Yenne to Poetto. There are swimming pools at 15-20 minutes walking, tennis clubs, diving, and so more

Guestbook
"Snug in the heart of the historical district in the Castello region which towers over Cagliari, this huge, over 170 sm apt was very much enjoyed for our 4 week stay. It was well maintained, VERY clean, the kitchen had excellent appliances and cookware . The pans were stainless steel, high quality teflon skillet, small food processer/chopper, hand mixer and juicers. Plenty of cutlery, cooking utensils and lovely dishes. The washing machine worked well although it required almost 2 hours per load to complete the cycle - very different than Canada -a nifty place to easily hang all the laundry and she even supplied the laundry deterent. The location was great - right in the middle of the historical district with museums just down the street and antiquity everywhere you look. Many restaurants and food stores within walking distance. The living room/bedroom was equipped with an excellent HD LCD TV with lots of channels including several in English. For the first 3 weeks there were even movies in English. The Bastion S. Remy was just down the hill and provided a spectacular view over the city and water. Two bars of note in the area - one on Bastion S. Remy which gave the term "lounge" new meaning. With outside seating areas which included large black king size beds with pillows and twin size cots surrounding a large square table reminicent of ancient Rome as well as hammocks for the most advanced level of relaxation I've ever seen. Another unique bar down the street, although it had a regular looking exterior door on the street, when you descended down the stairs after entering, you were enveloped by an actual cave that had been used to make catapult balls in the 12th century -- one of which was on display. A close-by restaurant we enjoyed with authentic Sardegna food was Mario's - the signs for it are everywhere. We visited in late February, early March and found the apt quite cold - 15 degrees in the early evening and since heat was so expensive we were reluctant to turn on the heat before the customary 7:30 pm time. The sofa bed we slept on was adequate but had to fold it up when we had company and noticed a lack of upholstered chairs. There were 2 desks which we made good use of with our computers and an excellent ironing board which I also appreciated with my quilting. Overall, our experience was excellent and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the Castello region. It's great walking and great for the glutimous maximus and quadraceps " (Jennie and Dan Keeran, Canada - 2008).
"thank you so much for letting us stay in your apartment, we had such a brilliant week and are really looking forward to returning (hopefully in the near future)! We really appreciated how well equipped the apartment was and how nicely you had prepared it for us. It was an inspirational place to stay. We especially enjoyed the nearby Poetto beach and the beautiful walks around the Castello area, not to mention the nearby restaurants and bars!" (Kristina and Ollie, England - 2008).
