The region is renowned for its beautiful scenery, magnificent chateaux, medieval towns and villages, truffles, foie gras, confits and wine

Cadouin area

Golf, Fishing, Walking, Sightseeing, Tennis, Water Sports, Canoeing, Wine Tasting and Gourmet Dining.

You will never be short of something to do……

Beautiful medieval Sarlat with its medieval and Renaissance architecture is 25 minutes drive away. Visit the market and be tempted by the gastronomic delights of the region or just sit at a café and watch the world go by.

Perigueux (45 minutes drive), the capital of the Dordogne, with its medieval quarter and the Cathédrale St Front.

La Bugue is 12 kms away with its many shops, craft markets and restaurants.

Cadouin itself holds a Marché Nocturne on Monday evenings during July, August and early September where visitors mix with locals and buy freshly cooked regional food (nearby Le Buisson de Cadouin holds it evening market on Friday evenings in July and August).

Le Buisson de Cadouin (approx 5kms away) has a market every Friday morning and has essential services such as a supermarket, pharmacy, medical facilities, bank, post office, cinema, several bakeries, butchers, bars and restaurants. It also has a station, with trains to Sarlat, Bergerac and Bordeaux.

There are village markets most days of the week selling local fruit, vegetables, cheese and wine. Monpazier market is a must as is the Sunday market at St Cyprien.

Monpazier (built by the English) is considered to be the best bastide, why not join one of its guided tours of the bastide?

Siorac (10 kms) has a large supermarket plus 2 golf courses - 9 hole course (Golf de Siorac, La Forge) and 18 hole course (Golf de Lolivarie).

There are lots of restaurants in the area, nearly all serving traditional Perigordian dishes for which the region is renowned i.e. truffles, foie gras and confits.

Chateau Milandes famous for its Josephine Baker exhibition is a short drive away.

The Tourist Information Office in Cadouin has detailed maps of the many walks and bike routes available in the area.

Horse riding – there are plenty of suitable riding tours through forested areas and along the main river valleys. There are also several riding schools in the area.

Fishing – fishing (Dordogne River) requires a permit ‘Carte de Pêche’ but these are readily available at Tourist Information Offices.

Canoeing - it is possible to canoe, kayak, sail boats and windsurf on the Dordogne

Tennis - is available in Cadouin, Mauzac and Lalinde

Guestbook

Just to say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Petite Jatinga. The cottage is delightful and beautifully situated. We could not think of anything you had missed even down to putting your little library into alphabetical order by author's name.We thought the village of Cadouin was charming and loved the wonderful Monday evening market which arrived in the village square with eveything possible for eating and drinking and enjoyed joining in with the locals at the tables and chairs which filled the village square and even excellent musical entertainment in the form of a small band and female singer who entertained everyone until the early hours.Only wish we had realised how good the food would be and we would not have had our meal before going.

As this was our first foray into 'Gite Life' we were delighted with everything about the cottage and found it difficult to leave when our time was up.

Thank you for letting us stay at your cottage and I'm sure those coming after us will enjoy its beautiful presentation and situation and have a delightful holiday as we did.
Thank you again
Yours
E McD.

"We had such a lovely time in Cadouin. The children all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we found the house every bit as beautiful (if not more so) than on the website". AA
