If you are looking for a beautiful holiday home in the heart of French culture then look no further......This centrally heated gite is situated in a beautiful rural setting with splendid views looking towards the historic village of Cadouin (0.5km).
Cadouin (UNESCO heritage site) is an attractive small village a few kilometres south of the river Dordogne, situated between Bergerac and Sarlat.
Cadouin itself boasts a magnificent 12th century abbey, hotel, restaurants, many local artisans, tourist information centre and boulangerie.
Cadouin is best known for its Abbey which was built in 1115. The Abbey became a major pilgrim destination in the Middle Ages because of a piece of cloth thought to be part of the shroud of Jesus Christ. In the 1930s the cloth was found to date from the 12th century but the abbey still attracts lots of visitors. The main attraction now is its beautiful gothic cloister and carved chapters.
Cadouin Abbey is now listed as a World Heritage Site with UNESCO as part of the pilgrimage route to Compostella.
Bergerac airport is an easy 30 minutes drive away and medieval Sarlat is a 25 minute drive.

Beautiful medieval Sarlat with its medieval and Renaissance architecture is 25 minutes drive away. Visit the market and be tempted by the gastronomic delights of the region or just sit at a café and watch the world go by.
Perigueux (45 minutes drive), the capital of the Dordogne, with its medieval quarter and the Cathédrale St Front.
La Bugue is 12 kms away with its many shops, craft markets and restaurants.
Le Buisson de Cadouin (approx 5kms away) has a market every Friday morning and has essential services such as a supermarket, pharmacy, medical facilities, bank, post office, cinema, several bakeries, butchers, bars and restaurants. There are village markets most days of the week selling local fruit, vegetables, cheese and wine. Monpazier market (Thursday) is a must as is the Sunday market at St Cyprien.
Monpazier (built by the English) is considered to be the best bastide, why not join one of its guided tours of the bastide? Visit nearby Chateau de Biron, a castle towards the southern border of the Dordogne region with the Lot-et-Garonne. Standing on a hilltop, it can be seen from many vantage points in the area. Try and see it when it catches the early morning sun if possible. Children will be attracted by Parc en Ciel - a treetop adventure parc nearby.
