The Lombardy / Lake Como Area

Lombardy is a region of the North Italy. It is known for Milan the financial city where is the Stocks Exchange.
This area is full of tha Lake where lives a very romantic atmosphere and where people find silence and relax.
Recently this area is frequented by stylists and famous American actors; George Clooney for example ,without
forget Donatella Versace and Sting.
Holidays in Cadenabbia – Beautiful lakeside town
Holidays in Cadenabbia offer a pretty, sheltered town located on the west shore of Lake Como; often described as Italy’s most romantic lake. Cadenabbia and the surrounding area is home to many of Lake Como’s most elegant and stunning villas and palaces from which you can admire excellent panoramic views of this enchanting lake. The Italians often take holidays in Cadenabbia in the spring and autumn due to the warm climate, fantastic range of lake activities and the short travelling distance to the cities of Milan and St. Moritz.

Cadenabbia Holidays – Milan and St.Moritz excursions
You will not be at a loss for activities with holidays in Cadenabbia whether you are looking to lounge on a beach, hike in the hills and valleys, or go shopping in the high fashion stores of Milan. Italy’s cosmopolitan city of Milan is a mere 25 miles away and makes for a great day trip, and you can also take a coach over the Maloja Pass to the exclusive Swiss resort of St. Moritz and view some breathtaking glaciers. Back in Cadenabbia you can lounge in the sun at the Lido or try out some of the many water activities that are popular in this area such as water-skiing, wind surfing or fishing. You can play golf with the Alps as your stunning scenic backdrop at the Menaggio and Cadenabbia Golf Club or visit one of Lake Como’s most famous landmarks, the Villa Carlotta; a Neoclassical masterpiece of a building with over 14 acres of majestic gardens.

Holidays in Cadenabbia – The ultimate romantic setting
As you would expect from a lakeside resort there are numerous boat trips up Lake Como. There are also regular hydrofoil and boat services to other nearby resorts such as Tremezzo, Menaggio and Bellagio. For the ultimate romantic trip why not take a moonlit dinner cruise up the lake where you can dine on some excellent Italian and French food as you drift slowly up the great lake. Holidays in Cadenabbia are the perfect choice if you want a real slice of Italian lake life in a colourful and vibrant setting.

The Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo

The villa was built at the beginning of 1700 for the Marquis Clerici from Milan. Late in the same century, it became property of the Count Sommariva from Lodi, who married Clerici's daughter. In 1856 the Villa was sold to Princess Marianna of Prussia, who gave it as a wedding present to her daughter Carlotta, when she married Prince George of Sachsen. At the end of the 1st World War, the Italian State annexed the villa as booty of war. It was then decided to open both the gardens and the villa to the public under the management of Ente Villa Carlotta, as it is nowadays. Inside the Villa it is possible to admire some paintings by Hayez, Vikar, Lordon and Migliara, some fragments of frescoes by Acquisti and some sculptures by Canova and Thorwaldsen together with some important antique tapestries and furniture. Count Sommariva planned the very first part of the garden in perfect Italian style, with a fountain in its centre, as it is still possible to see in the fore garden at the entrance. At that time the garden was not as wide as nowadays. It was the Prince of Sachsen who enlarged it toward Cadenabbia, planning it after the English style and taking good care of setting the plants in order to emphasize the beauty of the landscape. The American poet Longfellow after visiting Villa Carlotta gardens wrote:
I ask myself " is this a dream?
Will it all vanish into air?
Is there a land of such supreme
And perfect beauty anywhere?
The gardens as they are today, are famous for the blooming of the azaleas (end of April - beginning of May).

The Villa Balbianello in Lenno

Built for Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini at the end of the XVIII century, the Villa stands on the tip of a steep promontory overlooking Lake Como, almost opposite Bellagio. Today, the villa has the appearance desired by its last owner, the explorer Guido Monzino, with a rich collection of Chinese, African and pre-Colombian art, precious English and French furniture of the 1700s and the small museum with documents and mementoes of his expeditions. Yet the true masterpiece is the panoramic terraced garden dominated by the elegant "loggia" with three arches rising on the highest point of the promontory.

Cadenabbia Griante area

In the centre and on the shores of Lake Como, there is Griante Cadenabbia. It's exactly in the front of Bellagio where the Lake is divided.
Griante Cadenabbia is a little urban place founded by the Celts in the 500 b. C. that has a beautiful Lido ,just front of the Hotel Brittania Excelsior and Riviera Hotel.
The Lido di Cadenabbia: Beach & Bar & Discoteques & Restaurant.
Enjoy the facilities of the Lido di Cadenabbia to 100 meters from the House.-It is situated on the bank of the lake ,facing the peninsula of Bellagio, and offers a unique sweeping view of the central area of Lake Como if you can sun-bath by the swimming pool or on the sandy beach ,or you can choose to lay in the cool shade of its garden. There is a bar service where you can taste fantastic long drinks and cocktails and its restaurant is well known for its typical sea-food dishes. On week-ends it has one of the most elegant Discoteques in the region.

Golf Information: There is the splendid Menaggio and Cadenabbia Golf Club with its 18 holes, one of the oldest golf clubs in Europe.Golf Club Menaggio: (Menaggio Como) Tel. 0344/32103, 18 holes, par 70 – founded in 1907. Greenfee: Weekdays € 50.00, Sundays and public holidays: € 65.00.
In contrast to the relatively flat terrain of Le Robinie, this course lies in the rugged mountains, just west of the town of Menaggio, on Lake Como. It is the second oldest golf club in Italy, founded in 1903 by an Englishman, and in the English tradition, includes numerous and sometimes difficult hazards. Par is 70, and it plays 5455 meters (6,000 yards) from the back tees, and 4810 meters (5291 yards) from the front tees. The club house is also historic, containing a library with one of the most precious collections of golf publications in the world. It also has a first class restaurant to enjoy a leisurely lunch with magnificent views of the Alps, and of Lake Como below.

Guestbook for Azalea House.

We (late middle-aged couple) stayed at Azalea House in June 2007. The property was as advertised; it was clean and had all the amenities needed for a restful holiday including 'welcome' wine and biscuits. The owner was extremely helpful and personally met us and took us to the flat. As we do not own a car the location was ideal as it can be reached fairly easily by public transport (train from Milan Malpensa to Como, then local bus) although there is a STEEP climb up to the flat by steps or winding road. There is a small supermarket very close to the flat with another at the foot of the steps. There are various restaurants and shops along the lake as well as a post office, ATM and tourist office. Buses run along the lake shore and other towns on the lake can also be reached by the numerous ferries and boats. If you like walking, there are many excursions within easy reach as well as more challenging ones in the mountains. The region is very beautiful and we would recommend both the area and Azalea House for a visit.
Recommended for: Sightseeing, Tourists without a Car, Age 55+ ( George and Jan).London - UK

The property is well situated, very comfortable, clean, well-maintained, you have a tremendous view from the sunny balcony. It´s very easy to take a short walk either to the lake, next boat or to the mountains. There is plenty of information given in the apartment about what is to see and visit at the lake, the customer service was very friendly and helpful. I can fully recommend the property. " Yvonne , from Kassel-Germany.
