The Costa Blanca/Valencia region
The lovely holiday resort of Cabo Roig sits on the Mediterranean coastline of Southern Spain like a jewel in a crown. Often called the Jewel of the Costa Blanca. Cabo Roig is renowned for its sandy beaches and its prestigious marina.
The prominent watchtower, around which Cabo Roig was originally developed, is now part of a lovely restaurant which overlooks the recently refurbished marina.
The two main beaches of Cabo Roig (cala Caleta and Cala Capitan) are both extremely popular and very clean. The whole of the Costa Blanca enjoys a wonderful climate with well over 300 days of sun each year you can relax on the beach.
Torrevieja has, in recent years, grown to be one of the most popular and important centres on the Mediterranean Sea for residential tourism. No "package" tours come to this area. Torrevieja's seafront offers a lot of restaurants, tapas bars and street cafes on the very wide promenade which popular for the “Spanish evening stroll”. If you simply wish to relax and soak up the rays, then head for one of Torrevieja's sandy white beaches, which have been awarded the EC's "Blue Flag" status so you can ensure safe bathing and quality recreation facilities for you and your family. There are beaches at Playa de los Locos, Cala del Palangre, Playa del Cura, Paseo Marítimo Juan Aparicio and Playa de los Náufragos.
Why not make a day of it and "shop until you drop" in Torrevieja's many boutiques or the new Habernas shopping centre with H&M, C&A, Zara, Puma, etc. For the kids, we have McDonalds, Burger King, KFC or the ten pin bowling, amusement centre, sports centre with Olympic sized pool, etc.
Each month Torrevieja celebrates a different Festival, or 'Fiesta' with a riot of colour, tradition, music and dance, including 'la Habanera' a special rejoicing of Torrevieja's sailing history and early salt trade days with Cuba. 'Ancient tower' is its translation and it is on the north side of the town overlooking the sea with recently restored gardens.
Local to Torrevieja are two large natural salt water lagoons, known as "las Salinas", the largest in Europe. The concentration of salt in these picturesque lagoons helps to draw the moisture out of the air. This, combined with the very low annual rainfall, creates the unique micro climate with low humidity. With most days being sunny, and with an average temp of 18 degrees centigrade, make this area ideal for sufferers of rheumatism, arthritis and asthma.
Cabo Roig is in the area of Orihuela Costa, is 10 minutes drive south of Torrevieja and is on the a main bus and taxi route. It has a very multi-cultural feel as many people from other countries now live in this area and actually outnumber the Spaniards! This area is a favourite for British and Irish ex-pats. Consequently, the shops, bars and restaurants in this area originate from many nationalities to provide food to suit all tastes - from the native Spanish to Italian, French, German, Chinese, Indian, Korean, Scandinavian, Argentinean, Hungarian, Mexican cuisine, etc.
The complex is next to the main coast road, the N332, where you will find numerous bars, restaurants, supermarkets, etc, and a bus stop into Torrevieja town and beyond.
Less than 500 metres or 5 minutes walk to the cliffs at Cabo Roig. 10 minute walk (via steep incline) to the sandy beaches of Aguamarina. Further adjacent EU Blue Flag beaches, all just a few minutes apart by car, include Cala Capitan, Cala Caleta, Cala Bosque.
Less than 2 km or about 20 minutes walk to the nearby EU Blue Flag beaches at Playa Flamenca and La Zenia, which have vast expanses of golden sands and there are jet-ski's, a banana boat and pedalo's in the summer months, as well as the usual "bars on the beach".
Close by is the Orihuela Costa Resort, where there is a magnificent pool with large sunbathing terrace and loungers, extensive lawn area, tennis courts, basket ball area and gymnasium - available for a small charge - and pool bar and restaurant.
30 minutes walk (or 5 minutes by car) to the Flamenca Beach Commercial Centre, the largest in the area, with about 60 bars and restaurants and nearby are familiar supermarkets such as Lidl, Aldi and Supercor - the "Harrods" food hall of Spain. There is a popular market on every Saturday morning in a wide road in Playa Flamenca.
10 minutes drive, or 8 km to Torrevieja town centre, marina, harbour, Carrefour, Habernas shopping centre (H&M, C&A, Zara, etc), McDonalds, ten pin bowling, casino, etc.
One of the must do things whilst visiting the areas is to take a relaxing stroll along the picturesque cliff walk to La Zenia or Campoamor. This walk offer spectacular views of the Mediterranean and the surrounding coastline, whether its the peak of summer or in the cool of the winter afternoons.
The ever popular and developing Cabo roig strip boasts and wide selection of shops bars and restaurants something to suit every taste.
Take advantage of Cabo Roig magnificent Thursday market, which sells everything from fruit and vegetables to housing accessories and gifts
