Home description

If you love getting the sand between your toes, the beach on Cabanas Island is gorgeous and is part of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve
From April to October you can take a 2 minute boat ride for 1.20 euros return which makes you feel like Robinson Crusoe landing on your own private island! There is a cafe, showers, lifeguards etc.
The jetty is less then 5 minutes walk from the apartment with a juice bar stop en route!

If you are more a swimming pool kind of holidaymaker, then there are 4 pools with gardens gates for security - good for children

6km East of Tavira - past the golf course at Benamor - lies Cabanas, with a kernel of backstreets made up of pretty fishermen's houses and a line of low rise shops, cafes and bars facing a picturesque river estuary.

It is a quiet resort perfect for relaxing, drinking and eating great food, cacthing some sun on the beach or at the pool

The apartment sleeps 6, in 2 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms.
It has both air conditioning and heating and so can be used year round.
It is part of a new and private development which includes 4 swimming pools
It also has children's play facilities and a cafe bar and restaurant so you never need to stagger far. There is also a travel cot and high chair for the smallest guests.

The Algarve region

The Algarve is one of Europe's favourite holiday destinations renowned for glorious year round sunshine (more than California) and its wonderful, seemingly endless coastline that cater for all holiday makers... with every watersport available. Inland you will find quaint villages barely touched by tourism with their rich heritage and history.

Portugal is also reknowned for its food especially seafood and soups

It is easy to reach via Faro airport and driving is straightforward - the motorway is free and pretty empty

For those who want to combine a bit of history with the great weather, Tavira is just 10 minutes by car or bus and it is great to wander around its cobbled streets, castle and Roman bridge

Further afield, Seville is just 90 minutes drive with stunning Morrish architecture including the Cathedral, Giralda and Plaza d'Espana


Cabanas / Quinta Da Gomeira area

Cabanas de Tavira, formerly a fishing village, has become a popular tourist destination in the summer due to its fantastic beach, Ilha de Cabanas, which is found just offshore. It is also a great place to go scuba diving (some say that it is one of the best areas in the world) and there is a dive school for those first timers.

In addition there are a number of prestigious golf courses such as Benamor, Quinta da Cima and Quinta da Ria, well known for their stunning views are only 5 minutes away.

The apartment is located 400m from the sea front at Cabanas, an excellent beach with fine golden sand and clean water which has toilets, showers, parasols and beds for hire plus a cafe. It is also possible to learn to wind surf or kite surf at Cabanas

There are a number of very good restaurants in Cabanas and Tavira that are close by, a good cafe and restaurant within 100m.Shopping facilities include supermarkets with in store bakeries and an ATM within a short walk.

Since Summer 2007 there has been a jetty and boardwalk on Cabanas Island. Note that boats only run Easter to October but you can hire a water taxi outside of this time

There are also small villages near by that you can visit for sightseeing. In Luz de Tavira, you will find some of the best examples of Manueline craftsmanship, and Pousada of Santa Cruz which is located on the site of an old fort.

Fly to Faro - Cabanas is less than 30 minutes from the airport.

Cheap flights available from a huge number of regional airports in the UK to Faro -
Easyjet, Jet2, Globespan, ThomasCook, My Travel and many others both scheduled and charter flights.
Ryanair fly from Dublin.

There are lots of car hire companies at Faro Airport including Hertz, Avis, Sixt and Europcar. My personal recommndation would be to look on www.auto-europe.com and book an Avis car.
Or can recommend a taxi or transfer service which is door-to-door and very reliable in my experience.

You could fly to Lisbon and drive down - it is a good motorway but it is around 200 miles

An alternative is to fly to Seville which is 90 minutes away by car. Again lot of car hire companies. there is no problem driving over to Portugal and no customs but it is worth making the hire company aware that you will be coming to Portugal

The kitchen is well-fitted and includes a full oven, hob, fridge freezer, washing machine and microwave,
with a small balcony for sitting outside.
