The Algarve / East Algarve region
The Eastern Algarve is almost entirely undeveloped by the mass tourism of the Spanish & Western Portuguese Costa's. Here lie the delights of the sleepy medieval village of Castro Marim, its pristine neighbouring town of Vila Real de Santo Antonio, the colourful estuary town of Tavira and the marshland Natural Reserve, "Reserva Natural do Sapal de Castro Marim".
Those tidal marshlands have a tranquil beauty and the small resorts along the coast have retained much of their character, looking today as they must have looked long ago. Here tourism blends in perfectly with local activities creating a relaxed way of life.
The nearby Algarvian hills are home to secluded untouched villages of centuries passed whilst the coast provides all you could want from sunbathing to scuba diving along some of Europe's best kept beaches and coastline.
With Faro international airport at very close proximity you can be at your accommodation in under an hour depending on your destination.
Cabanas de Tavira area
In winter, it is sleepy a village but at other times transforms into a boisterous and ever expanding seaside resort. In Cabanas itself it's possible to swim, sail, water-ski, cycle, go walking, beachcombing, horseriding, shopping, eating, drinking or surfing the net. There are numerous reasonably priced restaurants and lots of bars and cafés within easy walking distance. There are 3 or 4 golf courses within easy reach. Benamor, a very popular golf course is the nearest, at just over 2kms.
You can walk, swim or paddle on either side of the lagoon but boats from the jetty on the water front leave for the island every few minutes. Windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing lessons are available within Cabanas, and there is an old ostrich farm which now has a children's play facility. So overall, a great place to visit for families and couples alike

During high season the changeover dates is Saturday, at other times it is flexible. Arrival time is 3pm and departure is by 11am. The minimum booking is for 3 days.
