The Algarve / East Algarve region
The Algarve offers something for everyone, its fantastic sandy beaches and water parks make it an ideal family holiday destination, Cabanas itself has a fantastic unspoilt beach island.
Ancient towns with narrow cobbled streets, fantastic architecture and local craft and food markets. It also offers many fantastic golf courses, with some of the best just a short drive away.
The restaurants in the Algarve cater for all tastes, sea food dishes are very popular with the locals.
Hot summers and mild winters, makes this an excellent holiday resort all year round.
Cabanas de Tavira area
Cabanas is a former fishing village, about 7Km from the city of Tavira to the East side. It holds a little more than 1000 permanent residents, and its beautiful and clean beaches turn it into a popular tourist destination in the summer. This area was established as such in 1997.
The village structure is composed by a long line of low-rise houses, shops, bars and restaurants facing the Ria Formosa Nature Park.
Tavira coastline is calm and peaceful, with extremely inviting eleven kilometres of fine white sandy beaches and very warm water. The beaches are crossed by Ria Formosa Natural Reserve, offering pleasant boat trips and the chance to observe the typical wetland flora and fauna, most particularly the water birds.
Tavira Island along with Praia do Barril, are the 2 most popular beaches in Tavira. But you might be interested in exploring the many but less populated beaches which are preferred by the local community.
Almost all the Algarve Golf Courses are within an hour of Tavira. Several of them feature on the list of the top European Championship Courses, Golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Severiano Ballesteros can be found just 15 minutes from Cabanas, in addition there is fantastic golf right on the doorstep, with Benamor Golf Club just a 5 minute stroll away. The Course is an undulating one, although not excessively so, offering views over the mountains to one side and the sea to the other.
