The apartment is in the vicinities of the Golden Club which offers outdoor- (ideal also for little children) and indoor (heated) swimming pools and courtesy ferry to the beach - max. 5 mins.) different sports such as volley ball, boule, tennis, squash, aqua gymnastic and nightly entertainment both for adults and children. Bicycle hire, bars and restaurants. WiFi available.

The apt. has 2 spacious bedrooms with 2 single beds each and a sofa-bed and an additional bed for children in the lounge and a child's cot. High chair. En-suite bathroom, a shower room, a south balcony with BBQ and garden furniture.

The nearby salt pans offer various species of birds.

The Algarve / East Algarve region

Besides Tavira, the nearest town on the banks of the river Gilão which offers many places of historic interest and about 30 churches, other nearby places of interest are Olhão which is still known for its octopus fishing, Estoi with the now renovated palace, Castro Marim and many more. Life and shopping in Ayamonte (Spain) just across the border, offers a different aspect of life. Shopping in Spain is no hindrance as Cabanas has bus/train conveyance to Vila Real from where a ferry takes you across the river Guadiana to Ayamonte.

The mild climate in the winter makes it appealing for those wanting to avoid the long, cold winter months in other parts of Europe. The almond blossoms are in full bloom in January and February. The warmest months are July and August and the water temperature is warmer than most other parts of the Algarve. There are many other beaches which can be driven up to.

Besides wine and fish specialities, Portugal is noted for its cork, wicker and ceramics. For the sports interested: Golf, horse-riding, watersports, tennis, fishing, bird-watching etc. are all offered in close vicinity.

The Cabanas de Tavira / Golden Club area

Cabanas is an old fishing village, which celebrates many festivals such as St. John's day in June, the sea-food festival in August and smaller other fairs and markets during the year.

A 30-minute walk to the "Salinas" (salt-pans) over the newly constructed wooden bridge makes it worthwhile for bird watching and offers various species of birds such as flamingos, ducks, spoon-bills, whoopoes, comrons, herons, storks, black-tailed godwits, blackwinged stilts, aversets etc. The harvesting of salt mid August is a technique in itself. Great for Nordic-walking.

“Great Holiday Rental and Location” The apartment had everything you could need for a self catering holiday and a wonderful view from the balcony. The Golden Club had an indoor heated pool which we had access to and it was a minute walk from the apartment. Beach towels were provided and the club ran a boat across the lagoon to the island where a 5 min walk took you to the sandy beach and sea. There are no facilities on the hotel side of the island but the town access site does have a cafe and toilets open in the summer but not in November when we went.. The town was very quiet but plenty of restaurants and bars were still open and the main supermarket opened until 8pm. A good place for a quiet, relaxing holiday and a bit of winter sun.

"We had a lovely time in the Golden Club. The apartment suited our family of four perfectly as it was very spacious. The two bedrooms are larger than in other Golden Club villas where we have stayed in the past. The kitchen is very well equipped with a great selection of utensils and we were glad to have the use of the beach umbrella and beach mats and towels. We look forward to returning in a couple of years time." - Annette
