The Algarve / East Algarve region
The Algarve stretches across the whole of southern Portugal. Its name derives from the Arabic El-Gharb meaning "west". Although the Algarve has been occupied by the Moors for 600 years, besides some city- and castlewalls in Silves and Tavira, there are hardly any remainders. Nevertheless all houses in the Algarve are still being build with those typical arabic chimneys. The Romans however left several bridges and ruins. East of Faro the coast is known as the Leeward shore. The area stretching eastwards to the Spanish border forms an unusual lagoon landscape closed by sandy islets. A great part of the coastline has been declared a protected area, namely Parque natural da Ria Formosa.
The windward shore is the Algarve's most famous stretch of coast. Ochre - coloured cliffs plunge down to the beach and the turquoise sea surges into coves and grottoes.
The interior of the Algarve is still relatively unknown. The flower-decked, whitewashed villages have managed to preserve their traditional appearance, where handicrafts are still an important industry for the local population. The year-round scents alone are worth the visit, with eucalyptus, pine, lavender and rock-rose all growing here in abundance.

Cabanas de Tavira area
The apartment is about 20 minutes easy stroll to the waterfront where small boats offer a 2 minute boat ride for a small fee to the long and unspoilt Cabanas Beach. The beach has its own cafe bar, changing facilities and toilets. Sunbed and parasol hire are available. During the out of season period the beach is a wildlife nature reserve. There are a number of Blue flag beaches around the Tavira / Cabanas coastal area.
GOLF HEAVEN The local course at Benamor is just 5 minutes walk away. It is a 5500 metres, par 71 course with excellent facilities, and is perfect for holiday golf. It has views out to the sea and of the nearby hills.
Quinta da Cima (6256 metres par 72) and Quinta da Ria (6110m par 72) (5 mins drive) are beautiful championship courses with stunning scenery and top class practice facilities. A little further afield (20 mins) is Castro Marim (5466m par 72) with its castle for a clubhouse! New on the scene 15 mins away are the 2 spectacular Jack Nicklaus signature courses at Monte Rei - the courses and the service are an experience not to be missed. Another new course, due to be opened soon and designed by Seve Ballesteros, is located near to the Spanish border by the river.
The Algarve has 18 other courses. The whole area is a golfers paradise and not as busy as some of the courses further afield.
How to get there
Flights to the Algarve are daily and the good news no fewer than 2 budget airlines fly daily all year round. Both Monarch and Easyjet operate scheduled daily flights to Faro airport. Dont be surprised if the cost of the flight is less than the taxes applied to your booking.

Further details indoors: Bedrooms: There are 2 very comfortable bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with 2 single beds and both with balconies. Bedroom 1 is fully en suite with bath and shower over. There is plenty of storage space with large built in wardrobes in both bedrooms, plus air conditioning/heating.
Bathrooms: The en suite to bedroom 1 has bath with shower over, WC, wash basin and bidet. There is a separate bathroom next to bedroom 2, with a walk-in shower, WC and wash basin.
Kitchen: Fully equipped with gas hob, electric oven, extractor fan, fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, crockery/cutlery/glasses, cooking pans/utensils, kettle, toaster, iron/ironing board. Everything you could possibly need.
Utility Room: Small utility room off the kitchen houses the washing machine and air conditioning unit.
Living Rooms: The lounge/diner is very large with 2 sofas, table with 4 chairs, air conditioning/heating. There is a flat screen TV with cable stations and a DVD/CD player. The room opens out onto a large balcony overlooking the pool where you can enjoy outside alfresco dining.
Other: The apartment has a large roof terrace accessed via spiral stairs. It receives all day sunshine and has views of the sea and surrounding countryside. Why not soak up the sun, sit and relax, or enjoy a drink whilst watching the sun go down. The choice is yours.
Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: The price includes fresh bed linen and bathroom towels which are provided every 7 days and the apartment is cleaned once a week. Guests are asked to please provide their own towels for the pool and beach. Additional cleaning can be arranged on request.
Further details outdoors: One of the great benefits of the apartment is the amount of outdoor space. Bedroom 2 has a small balcony. Bedroom 1 shares the main spacious balcony which has a spiral staircase leading up to the very large roof terrace. The lounge balcony offers outside dining shaded from the heat. The roof terrace is ideal for sunbathing with sun loungers and a drinks table.
The swimming pool is a very good size and also has a toddlers pool. There are showers at the side and it has secure gated access for sole use by quests of the complex. It is set in a landscaped area with lawns and flower beds. The quality of the outside area is superb, even down to the coloured slate tiles used on the walls. The whole feeling of the complex is one of space and quality.
