About the home

Canada is situated between the villages of Conceição and Cabanas. The ca. 50 sqm. Studio has a large sun deck with BBQ and East-West balcony with panaromic views. Satellite TV-cum-radio with British, German and Portuguese channels, a DVD player, a well-equipped kitchen with fridge-freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, gas stove with oven, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, iron, hairdryer etc. Air-conditioning and gas (mains) central heating. USB Internetstick available.

Bus stops, train station, bank, post-office, restaurants, cafés, fish, vegetable and super markets are within 5-20 mins. walking distance. Historical towns: Tavira, Olhão, within a range of 25 kms. Seville (Spain) can be reached within a 1.1/2 hour car drive (car therefore recommended). Golf courses "Benamor" 1 km, Quinta da Ria 5 kms.

The Algarve / East Algarve region

Besides Tavira, the nearest town on the banks of the river Gilão which offers many places of historic interest and about 30 churches, other nearby places of interest are Olhão which is still known for its octopus fishing, Estoi with the now renovated palace, Castro Marim and many more. Life and shopping in Ayamonte (Spain) just across the border, offers a different aspect of life.

The mild climate in the winter makes it appealing for those wanting to avoid the long, cold winter months in other parts of Europe. The almond blossoms are in full bloom in January and February. The warmest months are July and August and the water temperature is warmer than most other parts of the Algarve. There are many other beaches which can be driven up to.

Besides wine and fish specialities, Portugal is noted for its cork, wicker and ceramics. For the sports interested: Golf, horse-riding, watersports, tennis, fishing, bird-watching, lawn bowling etc. are all offered in close vicinity.

The Cabanas de Tavira area

Cabanas is an old fishing village, which celebrates many festivals such as St. John's day in June, the sea-food festival in August and smaller other fairs and markets during the year.

A 10-minute walk to the "Salinas" (salt-pans) over the newly constructed wooden bridge makes it worthwhile for bird watching and offers various species of birds such as flamingos, ducks, spoon-bills, whoopoes, comrons, herons, black-tailed godwits, blackwinged stilts, aversets etc. The harvesting of salt mid-August is a technique in itself. Great for nordic-walking.

“Heaven in Cabanas” In 2009 we had 15 vacation days to enjoy and no booking ahead. Then we found this apartment on some lucky search and contacted Sandra right away to book it, 24h later we were at Cabanas de Tavira with apt keys in our hand, super and professional work by Sandra. Since then we always choose this apartment for our summer vacations. The apt is located between Conceição and Cabanas de Tavira, in Edifício Canada, with a super, relaxed and refreshing view from his balcony. The Canada complex is quiet and safe. We had remote control keys for main gate and to the garage, in 3 years we had no problems inside or outside the complex, whether it was by car, walking or bike. Inside you will find a large studio with a double bed room and a living room, divided by a wall cupboard, with air conditioning. A DVD and TV with English, German and Portuguese channels is available. The kitchen (very well equipped) and bathroom are perfect, you´ll find everything you need there. There is still a storeroom with a laundry machine. The large balcony is like heaven with panoramic views and a BBQ. Photos bellow speaks for itself. In Cabanas is (or should be) all about walking or biking. You can walk anywhere in 15min. Supermarkets, restaurants and bars is in walking distance. If you are a bike lover the Algarve cycle route passes in front of the Canada main gate. It´s a very peaceful and quiet area, not yet touristy (and please try your best to keep it like that). You can find yourself home away from home in this lovely apartment.

“Our second home” We have stayed 4 times and love the apt. Sandra is absolutely a dream owner who responds quickly to every request with a pleasant and accomodating demeanor. We have become friends and enjoy her very much. The apt. is beautiful, well equipped and a good walking distance from the small town. Highly recommended.
