The Algarve / East Algarve region

Nestling alongside the shores of a natural bluewater lagoon and lying adjacent to the 18th Century Fort of Sao Joao da Barra, located just outside of the picture-postcard fishing village of Cabanas in the eastern Portuguese Algarve.

Cabanas de Tavira / Costa de Cabanas area

Cabanas is also only a 20 minute drive from the Portuguese/Spanish borders and you can drive across the magnificent suspension bridge across the River Guadiana to view a traditional part of Spain where many Spanish choose for their holidays. You can enjoy the best of two beautiful countries in one holiday!

Cabanas is quiet, yet not isolated and is bursting with an old-style character that will appeal to even the most seasoned tourist. Cabanas is a traditional village and you can walk along the palm tree lined road along the bay taking the opportunity to dine at one of the many cafes or restaurants which overlook the sea. The village is also a few minutes drive from the bustling market town of Tavira which is steeped in history and known locally as the Town of Churches as there are 22 churches in the locality! The town rests either side of the river with shops, cafes, bars and restaurants along the beautifully cobbled streets.

The nearest beach is accessible by boat, which ferries people to and fro all day long from April to Oct for 1Euro return. The beach has it's own cafe bar, changing facilities & toilet. Parasol, sunbeds, ski and paddle boat hire are all available.

There is a Railway Station at Conceicao (10 minute’s walk from the apartment) from which you can travel the length of the Algarve from Vila Real De Santo Antonio, a historic market town renowned for its linen on the Spanish Border, all the way to Albufeira. From the station at Vila Real, you can walk to the River Guadiana and catch the ferry which runs every 20 minutes across to the picturesque Spanish town of Ayamonte.

Cabanas is ideal base from which to sightsee, play golf or simply enjoy a relaxing holiday within a very friendly comunity. It is a beautiful place and one to which you will surely wish to return.

Golf:
The Algarve is the most popular golf holiday destination in Europe. With its temperate year-round climate, it offers fabulous golf on a choice of great courses and excellent value for money.

The Benamor Golf course is just a 5-minute walk from Costa de Cabanas. This course opened in May 2000 and has proven to be very popular. The course was adapted from Henry Cotton?s original concept and offers some interesting challenges amid peaceful surroundings. Cork oaks, water and contoured greens feature prominently and it is well recommended.

There are two other courses nearby, Quinta Da Ria Golf Club and a sister course Qunta Da Cima. Quinta Da Ria is located 4km east of Cabanas and opened in 2001 to rave reviews. Relatively flat, the course winds through almond and olive groves and stretches down to the Ria Formosa. Stunning views and a must play for all avid golfers visiting the Algarve. Quinta Da Cima is a more challenging course,for the longer hitter. Superb fairways and greens and compares to the best on the Algarve.Highly recommended. The Monte Rei Golf Club is set in the picturesque foothills of the Eastern Algarve, with sweeping views of the Serra do Caldeirão mountains to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the south.

The first of two Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses - "Monte Rei North" - will open for play in June 2007. This par 72 Championship course measuring 6567m from the Tournament tees is a truly unique design; with water coming into play on eleven of the eighteen holes, the course features an enjoyable series of eight par-4s, five par-3s and five par-5s in a challenging and distinctive layout.

The course presentation is highly individual, each hole a design gem blending effortlessly into this natural canvas, from its ingenious shape and sculptured bunkers, to the impressive presentation and attention to detail making ever hole as remarkable as the next; fairways and greens are bordered by several lakes, indigenous plants, native grasses and trees adding drama to the landscape, and providing golfers with unforgettable moments to cherish in this unique and tranquil golf environment.

How to get there

Fly to Faro, Cabanas is 30 minutes from the Airport. Take the IP1 towards Spain and take exit 16 to Tavira. Follow signs for Villa Real de Santo Antonio until you reach Cabanas.

Airline from Ireland(Dublin/Belfast) - www.aerlingus.com or www.ryanair.com. Flights available from most British Airports to Faro and Sevilla.

Most local car hire companies are of a good standard and available from Faro Airport.

The remainder of rental fee due eight weeks before your stay to secure booking.

** Cleaning will be prior to arrival and if booked for two week period or more, then cleaning will be every Saturday. If extra cleaning is required this must be requested at the time of booking and it will be an additional £100 payable at the time of booking or locally.**

Cleaning is provided on change over days. If extra cleaning is required it can be arranged locally and paid locally. A returnable breakage deposit is required at time of booking of €100 which will be returned within two weeks of departure (subject to satisfactory property inspection)
