The Algarve / East Algarve region
The coastal towns of the eastern Algarve are ‘real’ towns, far more under-developed than those in the Central and Western area of the Algarve.
If you are after a more relaxed style of holiday, away from the hordes of tourists and water parks, then the Eastern Algarve may be the place for you.
The weatherman of the East Algarve… most of the year it is brilliant.
The south of Portugal compared with the rest of Europe seems to be the best. Summertime: warm and dry, thanks to the Atlantic it is very rarley too hot near the Algarve coast, mostly there is a smooth breeze. Jumping into the sea is a pleasant refreshing. More in the hinterland and for sure in Alentejo (a region next to the Algarve), there are the temperature rising, particularly during July and August. Who is not in the absolutely need to travel during the high season may prefere the moderate climate.
Springtime: is ideal for nature lovers, rampant vegetation to be crazy about it. The earlier Autumn: perfect for holiday makers who love sandy lonely beaches will be fond of the many that are available. Part of the landscape may be dried out, but the outdoor and water temperature is quite nice and invites you into the water or to relax.
Wintertime: you might have some rainy days too, but the nature is in need of it. But it is quite within the bounds of probability that you are sitting in a café open air and wearing a T-Shirt. During wintertime is excellent for photographers, the lighting conditions are absolutely exciting and amazing. The nature is waking up again after some rainy days. In January it starts and in February the almond trees are in their full blossom. If we take stock of these 4 seasons, we say: it is worth at more than 365 days a year, visiting the Eastern Algarve.
The Cabanas de Tavira / Cabanas Beach area
Cabanas is a former fishing village, about 7km from the city of Tavira to the East side. It holds a little more than 1000 permanent residents, and its beautiful and clean beaches turn it into a popular tourist destination in the summer. This area was established as such in 1997.
The village structure is composed by a long line of low-rise houses, shops, bars and restaurants facing the Ria Formosa Nature Park.
Tavira coastline is calm and peaceful, with extremely inviting eleven kilometres of fine white sandy beaches and very warm water. The beaches are crossed by Ria Formosa Natural Reserve, offering pleasant boat trips and the chance to observe the typical wetland flora and fauna, most particularly the water birds.
Tavira Island along with Praia do Barril, are the 2 most popular beaches in Tavira. But you might be interested in exploring the many but less populated beaches which are preferred by the local community.
Almost all the Algarve Golf Courses are within an hour of Tavira. Several of them feature on the list of the top European Championship Courses, Golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Severiano Ballesteros can be found just 15 minutes from Cabanas, in addition there is fantastic golf right on the doorstep, with Benamor Golf Club is just 5 minutes away. The Course is an undulating one, although not excessively so, offering views over the mountains to one side and the sea to the other. A little further down the road is the Quinta da Ria & Quinta da Cima courses with breathtaking views of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve and the Atlantic Ocean

Budget airlines such as Easyjet, Jet2 and Ryanair fly to Faro aswell as many other airlines.
Cabanas is about 30/40 mins away from the airport by car, train or taxi.
Follow signs for IP1 (A22) towards Spain exit at junction16 (Tavira) and travel towards Cabanas on the 125.

This appartment is well situated in the villiage, with a small supermarket nearby and various shops and restaurants within 10 mins walk The accommodation is well proportioned and equipped with all mod cons and the balcony overlooks the pool area and has barbie facilities Approx 5 min walk brings you to the promenade and boardwalk which is especially nice in the evenings as the sun sets The boardwalk runs along the edge of a shallow lagoon and for 1 euro /2 mins boat ride you are on the seaside with lovely golden sand with a snackbar restaurant. The public transport, trains /bus is also handy if you dont have a car |

One of best holidays we have had in Cabanas de Tavira. This environment offers all possible activities specially if you have car. If not, many things are available nearby. Bola Casa itself is first class apartment with nice pool area and small shops, restaurants and cafes are all near. With our teenagers we visited many blue flag beaches, circus in Tavira, Slide and Splash Aqua Park in Lagoa, Roman ruins in nearby Faro (Milreu) etc. There is not lack of activities and specially if you play golf, Cabanas de Tavira offers many courses. For next summer we have booked more wonderful time of Bola Casa. Response: We're delighted you enjoyed the holiday so much, seems like it was worth the trip from Finland. |
