REVIEWS FROM GUESTS PRIOR TRIPADVISOR 2010 / 2011
House was really fantastic. If anything it was almost too nice as we were terrified of anything getting broken, but it was really nice and well equipped;
Very spacious, comfortable and with a great mix of rooms, be it for kids, teenagers or I would think couples;
Pool area is fantastic, and the pub is nice too – so all in all the development is great
We found Cabanas to be very nice, with a couple of good restaurants (Pedros our favourite ) and lively on weekend nights
There is a little road train that goes from the centre of town (aimed at kids) and goes right outside the gates of OPomar – nice alternative to driving down and parking on way to beach

Dublin13,
Congratulations on such a fantastic house which you have in Cabanas, it was truly wonderful to stay in such a lovely place. The complex was great and we enjoyed the pool and the pub on a few occasions. Weather was wonderful and the local restaurants were the cause of our clothes being a little tighter on the way home.
We would definitely recommend this to others and who knows maybe come back ourselves some day.
best wishes

Dear Frances,
We just came back from our Portugal vacations. We want to thank you for really nice townhouse in Tavira. We enjoyed it so much. It met all our requirements. It's well-equipped and the place was nice.
Thank you.

Frances, the holiday was lovely. It really is a great spot and the house is fab.
We all ended up with insect bites unfortunately which is strange as none of us are usual targets but at least we were able to hang out inside in comfort!
For future reference, we managed fine without a car. It would have been handy for getting water and the like from the shop but aside from that we didn't find it a problem. It's a grand walk to the seafront and we got the bus into Tavira, a train back and a taxi to the shopping mall - just in case future guests ask about it.
Also, the Old Barrel has wifi - some of your guests might find it useful and it's not obvious from the pub so it might be worth leaving a note in the house or something.
Kind regards

The Algarve / East Algarve region
Cabanas de Tavira
Cabanas it’s a former fishing village, about 7Km from the city to the East side. It holds a little more than 1000 permanent residents, and its beautiful and clean beaches turn it into a popular tourist destination in the summer.
The village structure is composed by a long line of low-rise houses, shops, bars and restaurants facing the Ria Formosa Nature Park.
The history of Cabanas goes back to the year of 1734, at the same time the tuna fish fishing activity started, originating a need for the creation of huts (yes cabanas is the Portuguese word for huts) to store all the fishing tools and the growth of the community.
This parish still lives mainly from fishing, contributing to the enrichment of the local gastronomy with products like tuna fish, razor clams, etc. Although the strong connection and dependence from fishing, Cabanas also depends very much from tourism, being the most visited parish along the year.
Nowadays Cabanas offers to everyone a rich cultural heritage, from its fauna and flora, to the diversity of accommodation and gastronomy.

Praia de Cabanas has its own café-bar, showers and toilet facilities, sunshades to rent and water sports such as windsurfing, sailing and jet-skiing and is supervised during the 'beach season'.
Historical remains in the Cabanas area

If you can summon up the energy to leave Cabanas for an hour or two to explore a little further, then a visit to Tavira is a must. It is probably the most attractive town in the Algarve and despite the increasing numbers of tourists who visit is still very much a Portuguese town. The riverside near the market building, with it's outside cafés and garden area, is always a good place to stop awhile and watch the world go by and if churches are of interest to you, then be prepared to spend some time as there more than a dozen in Tavira!

Just back from a fantastic stay in Cabanas. The villa was really lovely,very clean and a very well equipped kitchen and really comfortable furniture throughout. The O Pomar complex was very well maintained and the swimming pool was just a very short walk from the villa. The pub was very friendly and provided great entertainment in the evenings. Cabanas Town is a lovely place, with great places to eat and enjoy yourself. The beach is great, and has a great cafe there providing everything you need for the day. I will certainly be back next year! Many thanks for a great holiday |

Just returned from a fortnight's stay with three friends (all of us young at heart pensioners). I don't think I've ever stayed anywhere so immaculately clean! Just 40 minutes from the airport, but when we arrived we felt immediately restored - the solace is quite remarkable. The impression of the accommodation is good all round - spacious and clean - and equipped with everything you could want from beach towels to ironing boards... Not that we used those! In the complex there's a very friendly bar, with food, where they speak good English - and it's nice and close to the pool. The food is best in town though where stone-sizzled steak or monkfish straight from the sea were big hits - authentic Portuguese! The townhouse is very privately situated in the complex - and the quiet was perfect. The downside of that - is that the town is a good 10 minutes walk away. The beach is further - actually a short boat ride. There's not a lot for teenagers and it's probably too quiet for 18-30 singles types. But it worked for us! Definitely will return - with kids and grandkids next time! |
