Dove Cottage is an above average sized two person cottage, graded in the top half of four star, and given an almost unheard of 100% for standards of housekeeping in the grading process. It has a modern tasteful ambience but plenty of charachter features, in particular beams in all three rooms on the first floor. The bedroom has an extra thick mattress, a second television and an ensuite decent sized bathroom.

The living room has a log effect stove with leather settees and a leather armchair plus a TV and DVD player. The TV receives full sky programmes, so including sky sports and films channels. A wifi signal is received.

There is fully controllable central heating throughout.

The kitchen has impresssive real granite sinks and gloss worktops. there is a truly atmospheric dining area adjacent to the kitchen. There are top of the range laminated floors of the highest quality throughout (where not carpeted). In the courtyard there is a barbecue and laundry room and provision for off-road parking of one car. There is some limited outdoor seating area with flower borders

In the cottage there are ten (!) highly praised personalised information folders, ensuring guests are able to take maximum advantage of their stay in Hartington and its environs. Hartington itself is one of the honey-pot villages in the Peak District, being regarded as an excellent base for walking and cycling. This is helped by its location only a couple of hundred yards form the River Dove. which can easily be reached from the village over an attractive meadow and from there , there is an excellent riverside path down to Dovedale. As a result the village is able to support, despite only having 130 houses, several tea shops, two (excellent) coaching inns, a delicatessen, a grocers, two gift shops, a post office an art studio an antiques shop and famous cheep shop to which many make a point of travelling from miles around. There is also a duck pond which acts as a magnet to many visitors. The village is approached down a gorgeous but easily driven 2 mile long dale road from one of the Peak District's main artery roads, making it extraordinarily easy to get around to visit the numerous attractions in the Peak District.

The Heart of England/Peak District

The Peak District National Park was not only the first such designated National Park, but remains the most visited. However it rarely feels crowded with the excellent network of lanes, numerous attractions, innumerable footpaths and so much more (hence being able to make up 10 information folders in Dove cottage). There is almost certainly more to do within, say, 30 minutes drive of Dove Cottage than anywhere else in the country.

There are stately houses, various victorian spa towns, market towns, fasinating villages, and bizarrely the National Tramway Museum. About 8 heritage railways as well. Every week between May and September there is the traditional practice of well-dressing in various different village and in September and October there are the excellent Matlock Bath Illuminations and Venetian nights

Buxton

Hartington is one of the most highly regarded villages in the Peak, famous for its fine old stone buildings, Jaobean Hall, geese pond and cheese shop..The (easy) approach down a long dale to the village from the main road really takes some beating. The River Dove is only a few hundred yards away and a very popular walk starts in the village, over some lovely meadows to the River, along the stretch known as Berefsford Dale, which in turn leads onto Wolfscote Dale and the most famous Dale of the Peak, Dovedale.

There are numerous further footpaths and bridle ways in the immediate vicinity, offering unrivalled walking in the best part of the White Peak. The highly popular Tissington Trail, which runs for 17 miles, is used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and is just 1 mile from the cottages. Two further trails, the High Peak Trail and the Manifold Valley Trail (both of similar distance), are within 2 miles. These three tracks are ideal for 'soft' cycling as is the network of quiet minor roads, which can be accessed at numerous points along the trails. These former railway lines have much else to offer, not least quality views, but also interesting viaducts, steam beam engines and other remnant of the past. In winter when some of our guests are looking for easier walking, they provide a useful alternative to walking across fields and dales (although walking along the River Dove with its superb hardcore path is easy throughout the year)
