Farriers holiday cottage in Buxton is ideal for those who want to get away from it all without being in the middle of nowhere! Its location on a quiet side street close to the Market Place in this historic town is convenient for pubs, restaurants, local shops, parks and the theater, as well as for touring the wonderful walking country, pretty villages and stately homes of the surrounding Peak District National Park.

Farriers is located on Buxton's oldest street – you can hear the bell of the nearby 17th century St Anne's Church on Tuesday evenings (but thankfully not at crack of dawn on Sundays!). The access-only lane is at the heart of the historic Higher Buxton area, just a few minutes' walk from the Market Place with its Tuesday and Saturday stalls, good restaurants and excellent real ale pubs. A pleasant stroll through the gracious, newly-restored Pavilion Gardens takes you to the center of Georgian Buxton with its elegant Crescent, Thermal Baths shopping area and stunning Edwardian Opera House.

The house has private off-street car-parking and is very convenient for Buxton railway station with through trains to Manchester, one of Europe's liveliest modern cities, less than an hour away.

The Heart of England/Peak District

Buxton is surrounded by the beautiful Derbyshire countryside and lies less than a mile from the Peak National Park. This is splendid walking country and the cottage is well provided with walks books and maps.

The more adventurous can enjoy cycling, rock climbing and gliding. Stately homes abound, including Chatsworth and Haddon Hall (the latter used in the recent BBC production of Jane Eyre), and the National Trust's Hardwick Hall. And if ever you do get a yearning for the big city, there's always Manchester, just an hour away on the train, a truly European centre with art galleries, museums and very high quality shops.

Buxton

Buxton is a festival town and Farriers' central location puts you at the heart of its summer carnivals, wells-dressing celebrations and many musical and theatrical events. The house is within very easy walking distance of all the Buxton International Festival and Gilbert & Sullivan Festival venues, and is just 15 minutes' walk from Buxton Opera House with its varied year-round programme. At Farriers you'll be able to enjoy Buxton's vibrant atmosphere, whether your interest is as a casual observer of all the fringe festival street theatre or as an avid opera fan.

Buxton is a great town in which to browse, with its elegant Georgian and Victorian architecture and a wide range of shops and cafes. (Scriveners, Derbyshire's largest second-hand bookshop, is just 30 yards from Farriers' front door). Buxton's famous Crescent is on the verge of restoration to create an international spa hotel, whilst the former Devonshire Royal Hospital with its magnificent dome now forms part of the University of Derby and is open to visitors.

The Pavilion Gardens offer 23 acres of magnificently landscaped park, with a bandstand, lakes, a beautiful conservatory, restaurants and a swimming pool, all less than ten minutes' walk from the cottage. Also within a short distance of Farriers is Grin Low Country Park, with the spectacular Poole's Cavern and breath-taking views from Solomon's Temple. A Go-Ape high wire tree-swinging centre will be opening here in 2007.
