"Lovely location, but never able to get warm, and not kitted out for a group of 10"
We rented this property in January. I had asked the owner to ask the cleaner to ensure that the heating was on when we arrived. It was, but the radiators were off. It never got warm. Worst of all, there was no heating in the main room except a fire which was a hassle to light and supervise - it would just about get going by the time we were ready to leave. There was hardly any fuel - enough for one evening - and we had to source it elsewhere.
After our hike, we spent one afternoon watching a movie in all our walking clothes (inc hats and coats) as the heating only came on in the morning and evening which was no good when temperatures dropped to -4. I was on an friends get together but it would have been absolutely terrible if we were the children who get up early.
The lounge was a good size and fine for 10. However, we were hugely disappointed to not be able to access the internet as our Saturday night was a planned kareoke night - we had brought all the kit but it relied on connection to wi-fi. Why advertise it???
The bedrooms were mainly ok but one bed fell apart during the night and 2 mattresses were appallingly in need of replacement.
The kitchen is shocking. We were unable to cook dinner for 10 with the small oven and hob. Not enough wine glasses for us all (would cost a couple of quid to put right). No dishwasher is the main gripe.
Finally, the owners NEVER responded to our phone calls. Again, I think this was very poor as they are supposed to be available for emergencies.
The best thing about the cottage was it's proximity to fantastic walks. It wasn't a terrible experience, but being cold really took the edge off.
Many thanks for taking the time to review the property we are sorry when anyone is disappointed in our beautiful and well maintained house but realise sometimes we need to be informed when there is a problem in order to correct it for future guests. The property has heating on from 8am until 10pm with two real fires. The previous occupants had been too hot and turned off the radiators , they were left to ensure the next guests had the chose of what heat to maintain. In the main room there are two large radiators both working. There is start up fuel only this is to keep the price of the property down but includes 2 buckets of coal and a basket of logs. A new kitchen has been installed March 2013 with a new large range cooker and full size dishwasher. Internet access is available 20 yards away in the pub which can be also accessed from outside 24/7.The mattresses have been replaced and we are sorry we were unaware of this problem until now. We are and always have been available 24/7 on a landline and 2 mobiles. We hope this helps and if you would like further clarification please dont hesitate to contact us
