The Heart of England/Peak District

HAYFIELD

The delightful High Peak village of Hayfield is situated in a wonderful rural setting on the north western edge of the Peak National Park. It's a peaceful little village, popular with walkers and cyclists who are attracted by its close proximity to Kinder Scout.

Serious walkers head east out of the village, up and over the green foothills to the russet expanse of the Kinder Plateau, Pennine Way and Snake Path, whilst families (and those who enjoy more gentle rambles) head west along the beautiful Sett Valley Trail towards New Mills. Edale – an alternative start of the Pennine Way - is only a few miles away.

Hayfield is renowned as the hub of Mountain Biking in the Dark Peak. The many millstone grit trails make for fantastic natural riding in all weathers. Chinley Churn, Edale Cross, Middle Moor are right on the doorstep, with Edale and Langsett just over the famous Jacob's Ladder route. (more details can be found at peaktrails website or on booking).

The nearest golf is at Glossop or Buxton - both challenging courses. There is horse riding just outside Edale and no trip to the Hope Valley is complete without an exploration of the caves. Canals span the region and there is a canal boat dinner cruise which sets off from Whaley Bridge.

Hayfield village caters well for tourists with local pubs, cafes and restaurants. All the shops you need are in the village but the market towns of Glossop and Buxton have all the major stores and chains if some extra shopping is needed.

Local events include Hayfest (3rd-5th October - Rock, Jazz, Country, Blues artists playing at the beer festival), Well dressing (mid-July), Hayfield Country Show and Sheepdog Trials (20th-21st September - celebrating all that is Hayfield)

Buxton

LOCAL AREA

A short distance to the north of Hayfield is the market town of Glossop where road cyclists can start the Snake Pass and 'Tour de France' Holme Moss hill climbs.

Pretty Castleton in the Hope Valley nestles in a picturesque spot and is the centre for the region's spectacular cave systems such as Blue John, Speedwell and Peak Caverns

Chatham House, Lyme Park, and the beautiful old spa town of Buxton are a short drive or bus ride away and there you can visit the historic sites, or wander around the gorgeous gardens.

Holmfirth, home to 'Last of the Summer Wine' and Ladybower Reservoir, famous from The Dambusters, are both a 30 minute drive away.

Manchester is accessible in 45 minutes via train or by car. Taking the bus will be slightly longer.

All the above provide 'wet weather' activities should you encounter any inclement weather during your stay.
