The Heart of England/Peak District

Buxton is situated one thousand feet above sea level, and yet surrounded by hills, it has enjoyed a reputation for more than two centuries as 'the Bath of the North'.

A splendid concoction of magnificent architecture, fine hotels, more than twenty acres of beautiful landscaped gardens, excellent modern facilities for shopping and eating out, and the internationally renowned Buxton Opera House, Buxton offers a great deal for visitors of all ages and interests.

The famous waters of Buxton's warm springs are, historically and physically at the centre of the town's development. The Romans, who called the place Aquae Arnementiae, were the first to take the plunge and through the centuries many thousands of visitors have travelled to the spa town in the hills to sample the supposedly health giving waters.

Buxton

The Old Stables is just minutes away from the Pavillion Gardens, The Opera House, restaurants, pubs, quaint gift and antique shops, cafés and good High Street shopping.

Buxton, a georgian spa town, is close to Roaches Rocks for climbing, Dovedale for walking, underground caves like the Blue John Mines for exploring. You can walk right from The Old Stables to Pool's Cavern and through beautiful woodland to Solomon's Temple for great scenic views of the area. Alton Towers is only 3/4 hours drive away and Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are great days out.

"Lovely relaxing weekend!"

Excellent house, comfortable and different. Well appointed kitchen/dining room/lounge so we could all be together. Just right for 10 of us and the bedrooms were very comfortable.
Central location meant we could walk into Buxton to the shops and also the pavillion gardens. Will certainly come again. The bottle of wine for our arrival was a lovely touch!
Also took two dogs and was very easy with them.

"very enjoyable weekend"

Have just stayed at The Old Stables in Buxton for a weekend. We were a group of 7 ladies that have a weekend break each year and find it very difficult to find a property to accomodate us as we find a lot of places dont have enough beds for us. It is a delightful quirky house, lots of lovely touches, very comfortable beds with lovely bed linen, nice quality towels, enough cooking utensils and tableware for 10 people. Very well situated in Buxton, one very minor drawback is the very narrow road for parking.
A very nice touch was a botlle of wine and glasses laid out, a few lamps left on to make it cosy and welcoming.

"Lovely house with lots of character, fully equipped, right in the centre of Buxton"

We loved the central location in Buxton and the access to the Peak district, the local shops and Pavilion Gardens which were just round the corner. We went to Chatsworth House and walked round the reservoir at Macclesfield Forest which were both excellent days out. The directions to the house were good, the house very nicely furnished with loads of character. We would love to go again.
