Overbrook Barn
About the home
Overbrook Barn is part of a beautiful 18th century farm on the edge of the village of Flash, the highest village in Britain, located in a quiet valley in the south west corner of the Peak District National Park.
The long driveway leads to a bridleway on the famous Three Shires Head network providing some of the most spectacular walking and riding in the country.
The farm is an alpaca breeding business. Overbrook Barn is surrounded by fields of these beautiful and inquisitive creatures and you're welcome to walk among them. Also on-farm are sheep, pigs, chickens, and ducks: a paradise for city children. Home-produced meat, eggs, and vegetables are usually available.

The Heart of England / Peak District / Peak District/Derbyshire region
Overbrook Barn is in the south-west of the Peak District National Park: 550 square miles of some of the most spectacular country in England and home to much of UK's finest climbing, caving, walking and cycling. Stretching from the dramatic moorland and breathtaking landscapes of the 'Dark Peak' to the ancient oaks of the National Forest in the south. Home also to many of the country's finest stately homes, enchanting market towns, and picturesque villages. The Peak District was England's first National Park and is believed to be the second-most visited national park in the world (after Mount Fuji in Japan). It's a breathtaking place!
The Buxton area
While many people visit us just to enjoy life on the farm there is also an enormous amount to do locally.
Countryside enjoyment starts with some of the best walking and cycling in the country on a network of bridleways and footpaths which start on the doorstep. There's a trekking centre in Flash so you can enjoy the same on four legs. The less experienced can sign up to a week's course of riding lessons at the local school.
Get involved in local farm life: watch milking, visit farm shops and the mushroom farm, or try your hand at some alpaca husbandry.
This is great badger country: in the evening there's nothing so exciting as watching the dusk exodus of tens of badgers off on their nocturnal rounds.
We're surrounded by some of England's most beautiful and exciting country houses. Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Little Moreton Hall, Biddulph Grange, Gawesworth Hall, Capesthorne Hall, Tatton Park, and Lyme Park are all within 20 to 40 minutes drive. Many have spectacular gardens and children's playgrounds. Chatsworth has an outstanding adventure playground.
Buxton Opera House has a 7-day programme of family entertainment as well as some opera. Clonter Opera (the Glyndebourne of the north) is about 30 minutes drive and they will cater for your interval dining if you don't want to take your own picnic. Macclesfield has a great 'classic' cinema.
Alton Towers (rides and theme park) is 30 minutes away.
Macclesfield was the centre of silk production in the 18th century. Many of the mill buildings are still standing and there are several museums covering this great part of our history. Buxton (10 minutes drive) is a spa town and was built by the Romans, there's lots to see here including some fine Georgian architecture. It's our nearest town and probably has all you'll need. Good restaurants including Thai, Italian, Indian, Chinese, and a Pizza Express. Good parks and playgrounds. There are Waitrose, Morrisons, and Aldi, supermarkets.
