About the home

Situated in a small hamlet overlooking the Gartempe valley, La Butte consists of a well-equipped kitchen, large lounge/dining room, with log fire and French windows opening onto the south-facing garden, double bedroom with king-size bed, 2nd bedroom (twin beds), shower room and separate toilet. Gardens to the front and rear are mainly grass with conifers, aromatic roses and shrubs.
Here you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of rural France with the bustling cities of Poitiers and Limoges, each only 45 minutes away. Just 3 minutes away you will find Bussiere Poitevine, with a grocer, butcher, baker, greengrocer, bar, restaurant and hairdresser.

In addition to the weekly rental, we require a refundable security deposit of £100 to cover breakages and/or excessive use of electricity or gas, which will be returned within 7 days from the date of leaving.

The Limousin / Auvergne / Haute-Vienne region

Green rolling hills dotted with picturesque hamlets, Limousin cattle grazing on the pastureland, unspoilt rivers and lakes, buzzards soaring gracefully in the valleys, colourful sunsets and starlit nights.
Visit Limoges with its half-timbered buildings and porcelain museums, Aubusson for tapestries, Mediaeval towns such as Chauvigny on the Vienne river, Poitiers' narrow streets and Futuroscope. Step back in time at Oradour sur Glane, the martyred village, visit the Chateau at Rochechouart, or follow the 'Route de Haut Limousin', taking you through some of the most beautiful of the regions countryside.

The Bussiere Poitevine area

An ideal base for walking, cycling, house-hunting or simply relaxing, La Butte overlooks the Gartempe river with a choice of sentiers pedestres (walking routes) starting from the Mairie in the nearby town of Bussiere Poitevine. From Thiat you can walk to the Saut de la Brame (rapids). For those with more energy, canoes and kayaks are available to hire at the Gartempe near Lathus and a multitude of watersports are available at Lac de St Pardoux, 40 mins away.
Bellac is worth a visit with fabulous views over the Vincou valley and riverside walks. Chateauponsac is perched above the Gartempe, again with amazing views. The mediaeval towns of Montmorillon and Le Dorat with its collegiale, are a fascinating visit and have good restaurants serving a wide range of local cuisine. This year, Le Dorat commemorates the saints of the Limousin with Les Ostensions,which takes place every 7 years.

- Fly to Limoges or Poitiers - Ryanair offer a cheap, reliable service from Stansted - Just a 45 minute drive to La Butte through beautiful Limousin countryside
- Discount with Hertz Car Rental if using Ryanair - just quote flight no.
- Speed Ferries to Boulogne and Transmanche Ferries from Newhaven to Dieppe seem to be the best value for money. From Dieppe 535 km, peage Rouen to Tours recommended 22 Euros. Approx 6 hours drive including stops.
- La Butte is just 4 km from the main N147 midway between Poitiers and Limoges, near to Bussiere Poitevine.

“A truly relaxing rural retreat.” Our holiday was a truly relaxing week. Situated within the tranquil settings of the Gartempe valley the house was a perfect getaway. It was well equipped with all of the facilities that we could want and need, the bedrooms were comfortable and the views were breathtaking. We had a lovely peaceful holiday.

“A superb location for a relaxing holiday” Just back from a lovely stay at La Butte. It's a comfortable clean house in the countryside. A car is essential but there're are villages within cycle distance.
