About this location
The Dordogne region
This is a perfect area to simply wind down and relax and enjoy a slice of French life. Well worth a visit are Oradour Sur Glane, WW2 massacre site, St Jean De Cole on of the loveliest villages in France, the National stud and racecourse at Pompadour, Cognac, the World Heritage town of St Emilion. The towns of Sarlat and Bergerac have an abundance of charm and character with lovely buildings and markets.
Brantome is a beautiful town surrounded by the River Dronne and known as the Venice of the Perigord, You can explore museums, caves, the Abbey and also climb to the top of the oldest Clock Tower in France, Enjoy a boat trip down the River Dronne, or hire a canoe. If that sounds to energetic you have a choice of some superb restaurants and there are several picnic spots along the riverbanks.
Bordeaux and it's beaches and vineyards are 2 hours away.
Piegut has banks, restaurants, bakers, supermarket and a post office, and a famous Wednesday morning market. Nontron is a larger town with 2 supermarkets and a wide range of shops and a swimming pool and leisure centre. There is a wide range of restaurants close by, all offering locally produced food at great value prices. On Tuesday evenings in the summer there is a local producers night market where you can buy fresh produce and have it BBQ'd and savour the atmosphere of the village square and band, a truly great French experience and loved by our guests.
There are 2 leisure lakes closeby both with beaches and restaurants and water sports. Walking and mountain biking trails start on the doorstep and there are also plenty of lakes for fishing and a choice of golf courses
