The East Anglia region

East Anglia is a rich and diverse region with a variety of interesting, historic and engaging places to visit. The propoerty is situated in the picturesque village of Rede just 4 miles from the National Trust gem of Ickworth House, with wonderful nature trails, gardens and historic interiors. Long Melford (setting for the Lovejoy TV series) is only slightly further afield complete with two preserved Tudor manor houses, a number of gastropubs and restaurants and a wealth of antique shops.

England's finest preserved Medieval village, Lavenham, once the 6th wealthiest town in England due to the wool trade with Europe, is only slightly further afield, with its unspoiled architecture and magnificent Guildhall.

The university city of Cambridge is half an hour's drive and offers a great day out for museums, bookshops and medieval Colleges. Have a go at punting on the river Cam, and relax over a cup of tea savouring one of Fitzbilly's famous cakes.

Thetford forest is great for walks or cycle hire and for the more active 'Go Ape' treetop adventure course. For the more daring, the world famous Newmarket Race Course is just 20 minutes from the cottage.

When you make Suffolk your choice for your UK holiday or break, it is all about a fascinating variety of sights, sounds, activities and interests, from antiquity to modern, leisurely country pubs to bracing coastline walks.

Bury St Edmunds

Bury St Edmunds is a charming market town with an impressive ruiined Abbey set in a great park. The twon itself is bustling with many attractive shops and great restaurants and pubs. Try a pint in The Nutshell, Britain's smallest pub in the town centre. Moyses Hall Museum also in the centre has many local curiosities.

A range of excellent shopping is available in Bury. Market days are Wednesdays and Saturdays when trader stalls take over the town centre selling fresh local produce, cheese, meats and assorted other goods. There is also a local farm shop, complete with tea room, in Depden, the next village beyond Rede.

Hall House, Rede, Suffolk.
We had a wonderful 3 day stay at Halls House this July. Despite us taking a large group of children the owner could not have been kinder and more trusting in allowing us full use of his stunningly beautiful private residence.
This large, thatched historic cottage has been refurbished to a superbly high standard, retaining so many of it's original features. There is also a large open lawn to the rear which the children enjoyed.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday with clear instructions provided with all appliances. All rooms and bedrooms are well furnished and tastefully decorated. Indeed, since this is also used as a private residence when not rented out, some of the antique furniture causes one to take extra care!
The village of Rede is a delightful, tiny historical village which is also home to 'The Plough', a fabulous, friendly, award winning pub and restaurant.
If you are looking for a property with character, style and class then we cannot recommend Halls House highly enough.
We shall certainly be returning.

We are grateful for these kind words, and very pleased that you and the children enjoyed your stay at the House. Looking forward to welcoming you back.
