The East Anglia region

Suffolk is a county of lovely countryside full of historic towns, picturesque villages and ancient houses and churches. There is much to do and see from significant National Trust properties to days racing at Newmarket; punting in Cambridge followed by fine dinning at any of the many great restaurants; fish and chip and classical music at Aldeburgh or the panto in Bury St. Edmunds Regency theatre;summer festivals at Latitude and Christmas markets There is something for everyone with good beer from Greene King and lovely tea shops round every corner!

Bury St Edmunds

Bury St Edmunds is an historic market town with the ruins of one of the largest medieval abbeys in England still a main focal point of the town. The ruins are now lovely gardens where a summer festival and one of the largest Christmas markets take place. Full of interesting old streets it is noted for its excellent shopping, lots of independent traders, the wide variety of restaurants and many excellent pubs!

Several significant National Trust and Historic Britain houses are within easy reach. While the Invitation To View scheme opens many historic private houses to the public. All the country sports are at hand. There are many excellent riding schools and the open countryside of the Kings Forest in West Stow makes hacking a pleasure. Golf courses abound, whilst fishing is on our doorstep, literally opposite the drive to West Stow Hall. Bird watchers will find lots to see at nearby Lackford Nature reserve and keen gardeners should not miss the opportunity to visit the recently opened Fuller's Mill Gardens in West Stow as well as those at the more famous Helmingham Hall. Those seeking more active thrills have the tree top adventures of Go Ape a few minutes drive away! The recently renovated Picture House and the unique Regency theatre plus the new Arena means there is plenty of interesting events, concerts, films and plays in the evening. Gardener's Cottage is fortunately situated in having so much either within walking distance or a short drive away making it a great bases for a holiday.
