Home description
Built in 1830, Burnham High Lighthouse was the first to be automated in the 1950's - Today it has been transformed into a unique self-catering holiday home for short-breaks with a difference. It is the only lighthouse avaliable to let where you have the whole tower to yourself and get to live and sleep in round rooms - just like a lighthouse keeper. The building sleeps 6 comfortably in 3 double bedrooms, all are en-suite and fitted-out to a very high standard. The lantern room at the top has been transformed into an elegant living space with a glass floor and circular copper-domed roof above. At the top of the 8-storey building there is a balcony facing the sea - on a clear day you can see for 22 miles in every direction. The 200 year-old lantern has been preserved, so living in a lighthouse can turn a simple seaside holiday into an adventure you will never forget!

The West Country / Somerset region
Burnham-on-sea is an old-fashioned Victorian seaside resort, much smaller than it's larger neighbour Weston-Super-Mare. It is an ideal spot for a family holiday by the sea, with over 6 miles of unspoilt, award-winning 'blue-flag' sandy beaches. It is only a few minutes from the M5 Jcn 28, but if you travel inland for 10 minutes you can be lost on the somerset levels. This beautiful rural area is famous for it's cider farms, Cheddar cheese, family friendly pubs which serve great food. Willow is grown on the flood plains which is woven into baskets by local craftsmen. The area is dotted with world-famous landmarks like Glastonbury Tor & Abbey, Cheddar Gorge & Showcaves, the beautiful Roman city of Bath, Wells Cathedral, Dunster Castle....the list is endless.
Burnham-on-Sea area
Every beach activity imaginable is avaliable at Burnham, windsurfing, yachting, power-kite buggy racing, to simply sunbathing, building sandcastles, paddling & walking the dog. The lighthouse is adjacent to a fabulous links golf-course and is on the same road as the public swimming pool. Tennis, horse riding, steam-train rides are all easy to find. In summertime the whole town comes alive and in the wintertime from Late September - October a spectacular winter carnival tours neighbouring towns. Dozens of brightly lit floats pass through the streets in an electric parade so bright - it can be seen by astronauts in outer space - HONESTLY! Or if 'spaced-out' is what you're after there's always the Glastonbury Rock festival in June. The town itself is a fascinating place complete with it's lay-lines, Arthurian legends and miracles, it must be one of the most cosmic places on earth!

Further details
***NO STAG WEEKENDS/ HEN NIGHTS ****STRICTLY NON-SMOKING**** SORRY - NO PETS****
The lighthouse is joined by two former keepers cottages on either side of the tower. We have elderly neighbours and ask all guests to respect their feelings and privacy. No loud music/disruptive behaviour late at night please - the walls may be 5 foot thick granite - but this just makes the sound travel faster!!
Conditions
A breakage deposit of 250 pounds is payable before the start of the lease. This is fully-refundable provided there is no serious damage or excessive cleaning required upon departure. We ask guests to remove their shoes before climbing the steep ship's ladder into the lantern room for safety reasons and to avoid damage to the glass floor. From past experience elderly guests and children both enjoy the lighthouse, but the building does have 120 stairs and commonsense safety precautions must be taken.
