The East Anglia / Norfolk region

There are many lovely villages in the surrounding area (including South Creake, Holt, Burnham Overy and Cley) that offer shopping opportunities, superb restaurants and welcoming pubs. The area is rural and just right for a family holiday in the countryside or a romantic retreat. There are numerous routes for country walks nearby including the Peddars Way.

History lovers will be fascinated by nearby Burnham Thorpe, which is reputed to be the birthplace of Admiral Lord Nelson.

Bird watchers often flock to the area to catch a glimpse of rare species on the sand dunes and marshes.

Those seeking spiritual healing or enlightenment will enjoy visiting the holy shrines to Our Lady at the nearby Walsingham villages.

The beautiful and unspoilt North Norfolk coast is just 2 miles away. The beach at nearby Holkham is sandy and ideal for family activities. There are also local opportunities for boat trips, sailing and seal-watching.

The Sandringham estate is nearby and well worth a visit. There are golf courses at Brancaster, Hunstanton and Fakenham.

Burnham Market area

Burnham Market is widely regarded as Norfolk's loveliest village. It is full of beautiful period buildings and resplendent with wonderful little shops, restaurants and art galleries. Many of the elegant 17th and 18th Century brick and flint buildings cluster around the village green and beside the 13th Century village church. There are excellent opportunities for shopping. Pub lovers will enjoy a visit to the Hoste Arms, to sample its fine ales and superb food. The famous Fishes Restaurant is situated on the village green and offers a gourmet dining experience.

How to get there

Burnham Market is located on the northern coast of Norfolk and lies approximately one mile (2 km) inland, some five miles (8 km) west of Wells-next-the-Sea, 12 miles (19 km) east of Hunstanton and 10 miles (16 km) north of Fakenham. The smaller villages of Burnham Deepdale and Burnham Norton are within two miles (3 km) to the west of Burnham Market, whilst Burnham Overy and Burnham Thorpe are a similar distance to the east. North Creake is some four miles (6 km) to the south.

There is a bus service to Burnham Market from Hunstanton, but the best way to reach the village is by car. Burnham Market is close to the A149 between Hunstanton and Sheringham. You can also reach Burnham Market via the A148, turning north onto the B1355 at Fakenham.
