The Algarve region
As you travel across the Western Algarve, you will pass through an area of unchanged traditions, brought together with the latest modern conveniences and exciting holiday attractions. Welcoming its guests with the Mediterranean climate, the Western Algarve reveals a great variety of flora and fauna. The region is rich in biodiversity and ecosystems making it of a great ecological interest. The best way to discover the aromas and flavours of the Western Algarve is to stroll through the narrow streets and alleys found away from the coast. Here you will find a myriad of local restaurants and bars indulging into the dainties of traditional cuisine. The range of choices includes famous regional delicacies such as figs, almonds, carobs and a very special brandy. Only a step away from the restful inland area is the excitement of the Western Algarve night-life and the most beautiful beaches in Europe. During the daytime you can enjoy fanciful shadows of the rocky coastline casted on the sand and as soon as the night comes revel in the merrymaking of bars, discos, marinas and casinos. The region's built heritage reveals particular memories of the ancestors of the Western Algarve, making it a special cultural place to visit. If you are looking for an active holiday time, the Western Algarve offers a range of outdoor sports from golfing on the green courses to physical exercise at the region's excellent facilities.
Lagos (pronounced "lah-gosh") is one of the Algarve's most attractive and historic towns, capturing the imagination with its carefree holiday spirit, laid-back lifestyle and immense historical wealth. With its cobbled streets and colourful Marina, Lagos has some excellent restaurants, good shops and great nightlife plus a range of family activities and superb beaches on the doorstep. 10 minutes west of Lagos is Burgau, a picturesque fishing Village with pretty white cottages, jumble of drawn up fishing boats and a sheltered sandy beach with lively beach bar. A handful of restaurants and mini-market serve the village and those looking for a more local lifestyle. AlmaVerde is found 4km inland from Burgau, 55 minutes from Faro and 10 minutes from Lagos. This award winning village comprises a selection of newly built, luxurious yet tradtiional looking Villas with access to a day spa, tennis courts and countryside as far as the eye can see. The nearest beach is Burgau with the sandy beaches of Salema, Zavial, Figueira, Sagres and Martinhal all within a 5 - 15 minute drive West. To the East are the beaches of Luz, Porto de Mos, Lagos and many more within 10 minutes. Only 10 minutes either East or West are two golf courses - Parque da Floresta and Boa Vista. Slightly further afoot are a range of golf courses, many of which are championship level - the famous Penina, Quinta do Lago and Vale da Lobo (Golden Triangle) courses are within a 45 minute drive.

"Just what was needed"
A lovely villa with pool that was wonderfully equipped with tasteful decor. There was only 2 of us staying but it is big enough for familys or 2 couples to share. There is onsite management who are very approachable and helpful should you need them. Also tennis courts which can be hired should you want to burn off a few calories. The pool is a suitable size for the villa although I would advise that you pay the extra and have it heated. The villa is located in a quiet group of villas surrounded by national park land in the western region of the Algarve. I would advise a car so you can visit the local beaches and the towns of Luz and Lagos. There is a suitable supermarket within 5 mins drive of the villa. So if you want to laze around the pool or spend the day visiting the amazing surfing beaches on the west coast, or even the local golf courses, then this villa should fit the bill. I would also advise you avoid the toll roads they are fast, but boring, so stick to the free main roads. This is one of two places on out definitely 'do again' list. We both throughly enjoyed it.

"Precisely what great holiday memories are made of ..."
As this was the first holiday abroad with all three of our boys (10, 5 and 3) it could have been a stressful, tiring exercise. I say 'could' because it ended up being precisely the opposite. It ended up being the kind of holiday that will stay in our memories for a long time. PEARTREE PROPERTY: From start to finish - from the very first contact all the way through to a considerate email during our stay to check on how we were, Georgina at Peartree Property made this undoubtedly the best holiday we have had in a very long time. Their service, recommendations & communication were personal, friendly and simply outstanding. THE VILA (VILA ROSA DOS VENTOS): The villa turned out to be precisely as described (and then some). It was in a 5-star condition, quiet, relaxing and located in a beautiful, safe location. It was equipped with everything a family might ask for. If it wasn't for the glorious sunshine, the great pool, the lovely garden and of course the fact that Alma Verde can be found in a great part of the Algarve, we could have been mistaken for thinking we hadn't left home at all. IN SHORT: We would highly recommend this villa to anyone - from couples to families - that is looking for a fantastic villa to serve as a base from which to explore the Algarve, a quiet hide-away or a luxurious spot to keep the entire family entertained.
