The Algarve region
As you travel across the Western Algarve, you will pass through an area of unchanged traditions, brought together with the latest modern conveniences and exciting holiday attractions. Welcoming its guests with the Mediterranean climate, the Western Algarve reveals a great variety of flora and fauna. The region is rich in biodiversity and ecosystems making it of a great ecological interest. The best way to discover the aromas and flavours of the Western Algarve is to stroll through the narrow streets and alleys found away from the coast. Here you will find a myriad of local restaurants and bars indulging into the dainties of traditional cuisine. The range of choices includes famous regional delicacies such as figs, almonds, carobs and a very special brandy. Only a step away from the restful inland area is the excitement of the Western Algarve night-life and the most beautiful beaches in Europe. During the daytime you can enjoy fanciful shadows of the rocky coastline casted on the sand and as soon as the night comes revel in the merrymaking of bars, discos, marinas and casinos. The region's built heritage reveals particular memories of the ancestors of the Western Algarve, making it a special cultural place to visit. If you are looking for an active holiday time, the Western Algarve offers a range of outdoor sports from golfing on the green courses to physical exercise at the region's excellent facilities.
Lagos (pronounced "lah-gosh") is one of the Algarve's most attractive and historic towns, capturing the imagination with its carefree holiday spirit, laid-back lifestyle and immense historical wealth. With its cobbled streets and colourful Marina, Lagos has some excellent restaurants, good shops and great nightlife plus a range of family activities and superb beaches on the doorstep. 10 minutes west of Lagos is Burgau, a picturesque fishing Village with pretty white cottages, jumble of drawn up fishing boats and a sheltered sandy beach with lively beach bar. A handful of restaurants and mini-market serve the village and those looking for a more local lifestyle. AlmaVerde is found 4km inland from Burgau, 55 minutes from Faro and 10 minutes from Lagos. This award winning village comprises a selection of newly built, luxurious yet tradtiional looking Villas with access to a day spa, tennis courts and countryside as far as the eye can see. The nearest beach is Burgau with the sandy beaches of Salema, Zavial, Figueira, Sagres and Martinhal all within a 5 - 15 minute drive West. To the East are the beaches of Luz, Porto de Mos, Lagos and many more within 10 minutes. Only 10 minutes either East or West are two golf courses - Parque da Floresta and Boa Vista. Slightly further afoot are a range of golf courses, many of which are championship level - the famous Penina, Quinta do Lago and Vale da Lobo (Golden Triangle) courses are within a 45 minute drive.

"BEWARE: FABULOUS VILLA - POOR SERVICE"
Lovely modern, comfortable villa but atrocious service from Peartree Properties.Firstly, it took ages to actually get a reply when trying to book the villa. My friend gave up in the end and spent &pou… More
From our database of notes and emails the guest submitted several enquiries for different properties which were responded to within two hours. The villa was booked that same day and the booking form was sent immediately. When we received the final balance in its entirety the directions and access details were sent out that same day.
When the friend the guest is referring to contacted us we did not have any availability but we tried to find alternative solutions through contacts. Unfortunately nothing was available. We are sorry if this was lost in communication but pleased to hear that they were able to find accommodation for their holiday.
Regarding the glass table, we understand from the local gardening firm that the winds were strong enough that day to cause concern about whether trees in the area may come down. In the email to us, after their return, the guest refers to the wind as being 'so fierce'. The glass table in question has been in the villa since 2007 and the decision on a replacement was due to the availability of a replacement table. A glass table would not have been available in a reasonable time and the owner wanted to ensure that a table was provided quickly.
As the wind conditions were notably bad that day the insurance company is unable to cover the cost of a replacement table. The term 'avoidable accident' was used in recognition that there was no intention to break the items in question when the parasol was put up. Unfortunately as well as a replacement table there was the cost of a replacement parasol base and plates. The owner felt a contribution toward replacing the items was fair and reasonable. We have no intention to pursue the guest for the remaining costs.
Upon returning to the UK the guests sent an email to us which we responded to after we had gathered all the facts from our colleagues in Portugal. We wanted to know and clarify the position in terms of insurance. It is noted on all paperwork that deposits are returned 14 days after the departure date so that we are able to speak to the property managers in detail should a problem arise. In all cases any damages are considered fairly, taking fair wear and tear in to consideration and in most cases no deductions are made to deposits. In this case it was felt that a contribution was fair. The final cost of replacing all items has now been calculated as double the deposit retained.
