About this location
The Algarve region
Burgau, often described as the Little Paradise in the Algarve, is located 10 minutes drive west of Lagos. It sits on the edge of a National park and is still a working fishing village. The Blue Flag beach itself is beautifully clean with golden sands and children can play safely under a watchful eye. There is a lovely restaurant at the back where you sit and overlook the beach and watch the waves roll in.
A wonderful area for walks, you can trek up on the big hill that is the backdrop of Burgau or along the coast to the neighbouring villages of Salema and Luz. Burgau offers a good selection of bars/cafes and excellent restaurants (15) as well as a variety of activities such as surfing and fishing. Also in the village there is a newsagent and 2 supermarkets. The historic town of Lagos is a short drive away, with quaint cobbled streets, delicious waterside restaurant and a stunning marina. Lagos is a fantastic town that can certainly be enjoyed by all age groups, with a good nightlife.
Discover Algarve's secret corners.
In the Algarve there is a large protected coastline which stretches all the way from Sines to Sagres and then eastwards to Burgau. - it is the Cape St Vincent Natural Park. It became a protected area in order to preserve its unique natural beauty and fabulous flora and fauna. This coastline offers a unique walking opportunity, with a varying geology giving different coastal scenery, seascapes and wild life. This is the Algarve as it used to be before any commercial development.
The well used coastal paths can be accessed directly from the apartment, with good routes both ways from Burgau. Going to the left you can get to Luz, then Porto de Mos, Ponta da Piede (lighthouse) and finally to Lagos. To the right, you join the footpath to Salema. You are now entering the national park and the route offers stunning views and is a wonderful walk. This is totally unspoilt coastline and the walk is wonderful any time of the year, but especially so in spring when it is awash with wild flowers. You will discover hidden beaches and have time to take a swim.
Mild, sunny winters make walking ideal late September to early June. July and August are too hot.
Experience spring time in the land of orange trees, almond blossom & orchids. Bathed in southern sunshine-away from the crowds in this beautiful unspoilt corner of the Algarve. Superb for coastal & mountain walking.

"Wonderful apartment, fab holiday stay strongly recommended to everyone"
I am writing to say thank you for a wonderful holiday we had in your apartment in Burgau from 23.04 until 4.05!!! The place is wonderful - a quiet fishing village, friendly people, beautiful scenery ... The apartment is cozy and thought through to the very tiny detail, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay.
It was wonderful to wake up early in the morning, have breakfast on the sunny balcony and enjoy every moment of the day starting ... And in the peak heat of the day and the evening, the balcony was a perfect place to cool off, have a couple of refreshing drinks and have a BBQ party.
The beginning of spring is a wonderful time in Burgau!! The variety of flowers is impressive! The weather was not too hot, but quite comfortable for walking along the coast and travel by car to explore other towns and beaches, and local attractions. I would strongly recommend a safari tour to all - very knowledgeable safari drivers speak good English and have a great sense of humor, that makes safari trip a great fun experience with honey and fire water tasting, delicious lunch in Monchique and crazy rally driving!
There is a great variety of places to enjoy local food and to taste local wine in Burgau, Luz and Lagos. I tasted Portuguese cuisine for the first time and I loved absolutely everything, well, maybe except the snails - they are definitely not everybody's cup of tea! Freshly baked bread in Burgau delicious and to die for! We usually bought it in the morning at the bakery, which is located next to the bus stop. In the village there are shops with everything you need, making a stay here very relaxed.
Holiday in Portugal will stay in my memories as a bright sunlight. There is an overwhelming desire to return to this paradise once again...Thank you once again for everything! Best regards, Lena Sokolova (translated from Russian into English)

"Superb apartment, great stay. From Russia with Love"
What a fantastic time we have spent in your wonderful apartment in Burgau from 24th of April until the 4th of May 2013!… Thank you very much to Paul and Ruth for such a specially created cosy touch and homely interior in the apartment.
You can find absolutely everything in this apartment for a Perfect holiday: a very clean, modern equipped kitchen, very cosy airy lounge with stylish furniture, beautiful ornaments and absolutely astonishing pictures on the walls, and two cute spacious bedrooms. I would like to make an accent on a spacious balcony – a beautiful feature and an excellent addition to the apartment, where we spent most of the mornings having breakfast being spoiled by warm sunshine and listening to wonderful bird singing. We also enjoyed spending our BBQ evenings here with beautiful local wine and music. All these wonderful happy memories will be remembered forever!
In the addition to all the commodities in this great apartment, we also were drastically impressed with the village – Burgau, where the apartment is located. Mostly clean-white painted houses with bright red-brown colour slates on the roof, differ from each other in architectural style and vibrant narrow streets leading down to the beach with lots of bars, cafes and little shops, this clean sandy beach – never found overcrowded and of course the ocean – unlimited and intriguing – very calm like a milk pond one day or with unpredictably powerful waves another day . It was a great experience coming to the beach first thing in the morning around 9am and enjoying walking on cool soft sand with bare feet, feeling the morning breeze, whilst collecting the shells. Sunbathing in the first part of the day we found most enjoyable, as the sun wasn't too strong, and by the afternoon we will be swimming in the most refreshing Atlantic Ocean.
We will remember forever our walks along the cliffs, climbing the hills and enjoying the most magnificent views, adoring the sunshine and all the vast amount of wild flowers that Portugal generously met us with at the end of April.
We have also travelled in the car visiting different cities, towns and villages, where we enjoyed the breathtaking views of West Coast, different beaches, hills and cliffs, castles and ancient architecture. We absolutely adored the city – Lagos with its numerous sightseeing, bars, cafes and restaurants with delicious food, and also endlessness beaches along the coast. Each beach is unique and beautiful in its own way.
We also enjoyed spending time sunbathing near the swimming pool with transparent water, regularly visited sauna and hot tub in the complex for a full relaxation in the evening. We have also visited the Aqua Park near Alvor, went on a safari trip climbing the mountain Foya (in the car) 902 meters high. I still can remember it clearly– brilliant memories, wonderful time!
We would love to visit this magical heaven spot once again and we'll strongly recommend this superb apartment in Burgau to everyone. (translated from Russian into English)
Best regards and all the best wishes, Nadezhda.
