The Granary in the Cotswolds
Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
The Granary is a beautiful stone built Cotswold cottage surrounded by fields and the stunning Oxfordshire countryside. It is ideally situated as a base for exploring the Cotswold region and is convenient for visiting both Oxford and Cheltenham. The historic town of Burford is less than a 10 minute drive away and the beautiful villages of Alvescot and Shilton are only a mile away. Both these villages have terrific pubs which can be reached by public footpaths and bridleways. The Cotswolds is a fantastic region for a great holiday, with plenty of historic places to visit and beautiful villages and countryside. Oxford's architecture is stunning and definitely worth seeing. The cottage is in open countryside, but still 5 minutes from local amenities.
The cottage is 5 minutes from the fabulous Cotswolds Wildlife Park. The animals are housed in the extensive grounds of an old manor house. The variety of animals is impressive and the gardens are stunning. There is a great play area and cafe.
There are great opportunities for walkers and cyclists, both locally and throughout the region. The cottage is close to Burford, Witney Lakes and Lynham Golf Courses and there are a number of horse riding stables in the region. There are spectacular landscapes and wildlife for artists and photographers.
The Granary is within easy reach of the superb shopping centres of Oxford, Cheltenham and the Bicester Retail Village. Witney is local too and it has a great new centre with shops, restaurants and a cinema.

The cottage has a wealth of charm and original features such as exposed stone walls. The cottage has underfloor heating and a light oak floor in communal areas.
The Granary offers a double bedroom and a twin bedroom with a family bathroom with wc and shower, all on the ground floor. The cottage sleeps 4 people in 2 bedrooms, but there is also a single chair bed in the double room for an extra person, enabling the cottage to accommodate a family of 5. Should you also have a baby or small child as a 5th or 6th person, there's a cot with bedding and a highchair in the cottage. The cottage also provides a modern open plan kitchen, dining and living room. The dining table seats 6.
Bedding and towels are provided, including cot bedding. There's a high chair available in the cottage.
The fully fitted modern kitchen has electric cooking facilities, microwave, dishwasher and a washing machine. There is access to a further, larger washing machine and tumble dryer in the games room if required.
There's a dining table to seat 6, which extends to accommodate 8, plus a breakfast bar for 2. The lounge seats 5, but there are extra chairs and a reading chair in the double room.
Guests also have access to a separate games room that features gym equipment, table tennis, darts and a junior pool table, plus an extra washing machine, a tumble dryer and a freezer.
There is also an opportunity to use an additional double bedroom with TV, seating, a small fridge and en-suite facilities. It also has a sofa bed, so it can sleep 3 comfortably. The Guest Suite is only a few yards from the cottage, with its own separate access, so it's great for extended family. This additional accommodation is available for a further 50% of the applicable weekly/ daily rate or a minimum of £40 per night. This then allows the Granary to sleep 9 persons in total taking account of the sofa beds and cot. We suggest however, that this would only work for short stays, due to limited space in the main lounge/ dining room for very large parties.
|Further details outdoors|
The Granary is surrounded by the Oxfordshire countryside and is set back, well away from the main road. There are spaces for 7 cars between our 2 cottages, which is perfect for extended families and rare.
There's a small fully enclosed and secure garden, which is shared between the cottages and is great for small children or pets. There is also an adjacent much larger garden area, where guests can sit and enjoy the views over the beautiful Cotswold countryside.
Washing lines are provided in the enclosed garden.
The Granary can be booked for full weeks (Friday to Friday or Monday to Monday), part weeks (Monday to Friday) or week ends (Friday to Monday). We are flexible on dates where possible and quite often offer a Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Friday or 2 night weekends.
Prices are based on 4 in 2 bedrooms. Extra persons are pro-rata.
February and October half terms are mid season. May half term is high season.
Pets and children are very welcome. The pet supplement is £30.
If any of your party has disabilities, please advise, so we can assess suitability. We have ground floor facilities and wide access doors, but our properties are not fully compliant with wheelchair regulations. Suitability depends on personal circumstances.
An additional separate double en-suite room with a sofa bed, is available which allows The Granary to sleep up to 6 persons or 8 using the sofa beds in the Granary and in the Guest Suite, plus a baby in the cot, bringing the total to 9. Once again, we suggest however, that this would only work for short stays, due to limited space in the main lounge/ dining room for very large parties.
We also have a second cottage which sleeps another 6-8 plus baby- see property 95457, The Stables. The cottages are therefore great for a large gathering, with families able spend time together, but also enjoy separate facilities.
The Central England/Cotswolds region
The Cotswolds is one of the most beautiful parts of England with its green and rolling countryside and the charming stone cottages and pubs. It is a haven for walkers, cyclists, and those who just wish to relax in a charming country pub or restaurant.
The historic cities of Oxford and Cheltenham are within easy reach, as are some of the most beautiful villages in England. Burford, Bibury, Broadway and the Barringtons are all worth visiting to experience the charm and tranquillity of the Cotswolds.
Burford with its historic and famous High Street is one of the "must visit" places in the Cotswolds with its impressive Church and quaint shops, restaurants and pubs. Other villages worth visiting include Alvescot, Shilton, Swinbrook, Chipping Norton, Clanfield and Lechlade.
There are spectacular landscapes for artists and on wet days an outbuilding is available for indoor painting.
Burford, Witney Lakes and Lyneham Golf Courses are all within easy reach and there are other leisure facilities at Carterton, Chipping Norton and Witney.
The world famous Cotswold Wildlife Park is a five minute drive away and the Cogges Farm museum is a twenty minute drive.
Blenhiem Palace and the village of Woodstock is a twenty minute drive away.

"A Retreat in The Cotswolds"
You could not fault the beauty of the area. The cottage, The Granary, was extremely well equipped with everything imaginable. We could have entertained 12. It was very peaceful. The rooms were goo… More
Thanks for your review- much appreciated. We are glad you liked the area and the cottage. We have taken the cot out for people when asked, but the double room is quite large and it's tucked in a corner, so most are happy to leave it. We put the high chair in the cot, so it's out of the way for people who don't need it, but still available for those that do. We have parking for 7 cars, plus overflow in front of our house next door, which means we can accommodate parties with multiple cars for both cottages. The shared garden is fenced and intended as a safe area for small children or dogs. There is a larger garden open alongside, with seating and views, which our guests use and the other cottage also has a door on the south side with a patio and external seating. Often people are not in or wanting to use the enclosed garden at the same time, but if they do, they usually rub along, as they do sharing the games room. There's space for all. The Granary lounge fronts on to the enclosed garden, but it has full height curtains with heavy black out linings for privacy and noise protection. Not many cottages are completely isolated from other properties or people. Still, having said all that, if you encountered particular issues, we apologise- certainly August has been busy. We want all our guests to have a good time. We hope you will come back and if so, I am sure we can sort something out and if there are any issues during your stay, do come and tell us- we are only next door. Thanks again.

"Nice but needed some TLC inside"
The accommodation itself was lovely and clean. However, internally some TLC was required. The mattress in the main bedroom needed replacing as the springs had gone and the fridge was on constantly w… More
Thanks for your review. After your visit, we noticed that the fridge had been turned up to the maximum setting and that is why it was noisy. The freezer compartment was also not properly closed and so had iced up (it had recently been defrosted). This was making the fridge work overtime. After defrosting again it was quiet again. We will check the mattress, but it is not old and it wasn't low cost. If it needs replacing, we will do it of course, but we do find that mattresses are quite personal and we are sorry it didn't work for you. Once before, the central bed support had become dislodged, due to guests moving furniture to fit in an extra guest, which affected the mattress in the middle and made the springs stick out. We will check for that, in case a recent past guest had done so. We think your review relates to the specific issues you encountered, but it may sound to some like you are suggesting the cottage is unloved generally. Therefore, just to say, we are constantly upgrading the cottage and it's recently been painted and provided with a new larger TV and bathroom fan. We even put in a brand new DVD player especially for your family, with a couple of days notice before your stay, as the new TV was without an integrated one and you said your children would like to play DVDs during their holiday. We even provided a range of DVDs and books in our games room for your use. New blinds are on order and being fitted soon and all the gloss work will be painted shortly. We have also just put in some new gym equipment, so you see the TLC is ongoing.
We do find that if people have problems, it is better to raise them with us during the holiday- we can often resolve them for you and we are only next door. Thanks again for your review. We hope you will return, as we are sure the issues you raise can be resolved.

"HOME FROM HOME"
The Granary is exceptionally clean and well kept, in a quiet location. Very comfortable with quality fittings and the best array of kitchen crockery/utensils I've come across! Thoughtfully provided with basics in kitchen and soap and loo paper in the bathroom. A great base for a break in the Cotswolds, with lots of lovely walks nearby. Very accommodating owners, we hope to return again one day :)
Thank you for your kind words. It's important to us that our guests have a good time. We would be delighted if you and your family made a return visit.
