About the home

The Stables is a beautiful stone built Cotswold cottage surrounded by fields and the stunning Oxfordshire countryside. It is ideally situated as a base for exploring the Cotswold region and is handy for visiting both Oxford and Cheltenham. The historic town of Burford is less than a 10 minute drive and the beautiful villages of Alvescot and Shilton are only a mile away. Both these villages have terrific pubs which can be reached by public footpaths and bridleways.

There are great opportunities for walkers and cyclists, both locally and throughout the region. The cottage is close to Burford, Witney Lakes and Lynham Golf Courses and there are a number of horse riding stables in the region. There are also spectacular landscapes and wildlife for artists and photographers.

The Stables is within easy reach of the superb shopping centres of Oxford, Cheltenham and the Bicester Retail Village.

Facilities

The Stables offers a "king size" double bedroom, a double bedroom and a twin bedroom with a family bathroom and an additional wc / shower room. The cottage sleeps 6 people and provides a modern open plan kitchen, dining and living room. The twin room is ideal for children, with a comfortable seating area with an additional sofa bed, a DVD player and lots of play space! We are also able to provide a cot or sofa bed to accommodate an additional child or adult. There is a 7th person supplement of £50 per additional person for the duration of the stay.

The fully fitted modern kitchen has electric cooking facilities, microwave, dishwasher and a washing machine. A further, larger washing machine, tumble dryer and large upright freezer are available for use if required. The ground floor has underfloor heating and a light oak floor with traditional radiators on the first floor. The cottage has a wealth of exposed and original features such as stone walls and oak beams.

Guests also have access to a separate games room that features gym equipment, table tennis, darts and a junior pool table. This room has the additional washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer.

The is also an opportunity to use an additional double bedroom with TV and en-suite facilities. This additional accommodation is available for a further 40% of the applicable weekly / daily rate. This then allows The Stables to sleep 8 persons.

The Stables is surrounded by the Oxfordshire countryside and is set back, well away from the main road. There is ample private parking adjacent to the cottage and an enclosed, shared garden with one other cottage. Stone patios enable visitors to sit outside and enjoy the abundance of wildlife and country views.

The Stables can be booked for full weeks (Friday to Friday), part weeks (Monday to Friday) or week ends (Friday to Monday). Pets and children are very welcome.

An additional separate double en-suite room is available which allows The Stables to sleep 8 persons

The Cotswolds is one of the most beautiful parts of England with its green and rolling countryside and the charming stone cottages and pubs. It is a haven for walkers, cyclists, and those who just wish to relax in a charming country pub or restaurant.

The historic cities of Oxford and Cheltenham are within easy reach, as are some of the most beautiful villages in England. Burford, Bibury, Broadway and the Barringtons are all worth visiting to experience the charm and tranquility of the Cotswolds.

The Burford / Alvescot area

Burford with its historic and famous High Street is one of the "must visit" places in the Cotswolds with its impressive Church and quaint shops, restaurants and pubs. Other villages worth visiting include Alvescot, Shilton, Swinbrook, Chipping Norton, Clanfield and Lechlade.

There are spectacular landscapes for artists and on wet days an outbuilding is available for indoor painting.

Burford, Witney Lakes and Lyneham Golf Courses are all within easy reach and there are other leisure facilities at Carterton, Chipping Norton and Witney.

The world famous Cotswold Wildlife Park is a five minute drive away and the Cogges Farm museum is a twenty minute drive.

Blenhiem Palace and the village of Woodstock is a twenty minute drive away.

“great location, lovely property” This is a lovely modern cottage but with character. The location is great, on the outskirts of a village with good local ameneities e.g. supermarket, petrol station etc. but you feel like you are in the countryside as the cottage is surrounded by fields with great walking opportunities. Response: Thanks for your review. Just so you know that we have purchased new quilts in response to your comments, which were very useful.
