Cottage | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
The Stables is a beautiful stone built Cotswold cottage surrounded by fields and the stunning Oxfordshire countryside. It is ideally situated as a base for exploring the Cotswold region and is convenient for visiting both Oxford and Cheltenham. The historic town of Burford is less than a 10 minute drive away and the beautiful villages of Alvescot and Shilton are only a mile away. Both these villages have terrific pubs which can be reached by public footpaths and bridleways. The Cotswolds is a fantastic region for a great holiday, with plenty of historic places to visit and beautiful villages and countryside. Oxford's architecture is stunning and definitely worth seeing. The cottage is in open countryside, but still 5 minutes from local amenities.
The cottage is 5 minutes from the fabulous Cotswolds Wildlife Park. The animals are housed in the extensive grounds of an old manor house. The variety of animals is impressive and the gardens are stunning. There is a great play area and cafe.
There are great opportunities for walkers and cyclists, both locally and throughout the region. The cottage is close to Burford, Witney Lakes and Lynham Golf Courses and there are a number of horse riding stables in the region. There are spectacular landscapes and wildlife for artists and photographers.

The cottage has a wealth of charm and original features such as exposed stone walls and oak beams. The cottage has underfloor heating and a light oak floor in communal areas on the ground floor.
The Stables offers a double bedroom with a king sized bed and shower room/ wc downstairs and a double bedroom and a twin bedroom with a family bathroom upstairs. The cottage sleeps 6 people and provides a modern open plan kitchen, dining and living room. The twin room is ideal for children, with a comfortable seating area, a DVD player and lots of play space! There's a large cot in the twin room. There is also a sofa bed in the lounge for an extra guest. There's even a further child's sofa bed in the twin bedroom, so that room can sleep 3 children if necessary. In total, the cottage can sleep 8, which is great for big families.
There is also an optional internally adjoining first floor bedroom, sleeping an extra 2 in with a king sized bed, an en-suite, a TV and seating area. The cottage can be hired as a 3 bed or a 4 bed cottage. A key will be provided for the 4th bedroom if required. The rates for the 4th bedroom are 33% extra on the rates quoted for the Stables (min. £40/ night), which are based on the 3 bed option. This means that the Stables can sleep 10, plus a baby if both sofa beds and the 4th bedroom are occupied. We suggest however, that this would only work for short stays, due to limited space in the main lounge/ dining room for very large parties.
Bedding and towels are provided, including cot bedding. There's a high chair and stair gate in the cottage.
The fully fitted modern kitchen has electric cooking facilities, microwave, dishwasher and a washing machine. A further, larger washing machine, tumble dryer and large upright freezer are available for use if required. The dining table seats 6 and can be extended to seat 8 and there is an extra table for 2 more, plus a breakfast bar for 2. There are 2 sofas in the lounge and further seating in the twin, double and optional 4th bedrooms. The twin and 4th bedrooms have extra TVs.
The cottage has underfloor heating downstairs and a light oak floor in communal areas. Upstairs there are radiators.
Guests also have access to a separate games room that features gym equipment, table tennis, darts and a junior pool table, plus an additional washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer.
There is also an opportunity to use an additional double bedroom with TV, seating, a small fridge and en-suite facilities. It also has a sofa bed, so it can sleep 3 comfortably. The Guest Suite is only a few yards from the cottage, with its own separate access, so it's great for extended family. This additional accommodation is available for a further 40% of the applicable weekly/ daily rate or a minimum of £40 per night. This then allows The Stables to sleep 13 persons in total, taking account of the sofa beds, plus a baby in the cot, bringing the total to 14. Once again, we suggest however, that this would only work for short stays, due to limited space in the main lounge/ dining room for very large parties.
|Further details outdoors|
The Stables is surrounded by the Oxfordshire countryside and is set back, well away from the main road. There are spaces for 7 cars between our 2 cottages, which is perfect for extended families and rare.
There's a small fully enclosed and secure garden, which is shared between the cottages and is great for small children or pets. There is also an adjacent much larger garden area, where guests can sit and enjoy the views over the beautiful Cotswold countryside. Seating is provided.
Washing lines are provided in the enclosed garden.
The Stables can be booked for full weeks (Friday to Friday), part weeks (Monday to Friday) or week ends (Friday to Monday). We are flexible on dates where possible. We are flexible on dates where possible and quite often offer a Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Friday or 2 night weekends.
Prices are based on 6 in 3 bedrooms. Extra persons are pro-rata.
February and October half terms are mid season. May half term is high season.
Pets and children are very welcome. The pet supplement is £30.
If any of your party has disabilities, please advise, so we can assess suitability. We have ground floor facilities and wide access doors, but our properties are not fully compliant with wheelchair regulations. Suitability depends on personal circumstances.
An additional separate double en-suite room with a sofa bed, is available which allows The Stables to sleep up to 8 persons or 13 using the sofa beds in the cottage, the adjoining bedroom and Guest Suite, plus a baby in the cot, bringing the total to 14.
We also have a second cottage which sleeps another 4-5 plus baby- see property 95459, The Granary. The cottages are therefore great for a large gathering, with families able spend time together, but also enjoy separate facilities.
The Central England/Cotswolds region
The Cotswolds is one of the most beautiful parts of England with its green and rolling countryside and the charming stone cottages and pubs. It is a haven for walkers, cyclists, and those who just wish to relax in a charming country pub or restaurant.
The historic cities of Oxford and Cheltenham are within easy reach, as are some of the most beautiful villages in England. Burford, Bibury, Broadway and the Barringtons are all worth visiting to experience the charm and tranquility of the Cotswolds.
Burford with its historic and famous High Street is one of the "must visit" places in the Cotswolds with its impressive Church and quaint shops, restaurants and pubs. Other villages worth visiting include Alvescot, Shilton, Swinbrook, Chipping Norton, Clanfield and Lechlade.
There are spectacular landscapes for artists and on wet days an outbuilding is available for indoor painting.
Burford, Witney Lakes and Lyneham Golf Courses are all within easy reach and there are other leisure facilities at Carterton, Chipping Norton and Witney.
The world famous Cotswold Wildlife Park is a five minute drive away and the Cogges Farm museum is a twenty minute drive.
Blenhiem Palace and the village of Woodstock is a twenty minute drive away.

"Delightful cottages !"
This weekend 4 couples (all with 1 or 2 kids) took over the main cottage, the granary and one of the adjoining apartments. And we had a really great time. The accommodation was spotless and very cosy … More
Thanks for your feedback- very much appreciated. We do hope you will come again. It's always lovely to have a group of family and friends, making use of the fact that the cottages are together, but then again, there's some separation too. We are very glad we were of help. Just so you know, we already have a new mattress on order, following on from a recent comment along the same lines from another guest- we try to respond to issues, as we want our guests to have a really good time. The stream is at the end of the field, but it's a bit of a trickle this time of year for sure! Thanks again.

"Fabulous base for exploring the Cotswolds"
We stayed in The Stables , one of 2 holiday cottages in this peaceful rural location. The cottage is equipped to the highest standard and tastefully decorated and furnished. As guests we were also allowed the use of the games room and personal fitness equipment . The owners are on site and we found them extremely helpful regarding places of interest in the surrounding area. The cottage is "pet friendly" and we took our Labrador on holiday with us , there are lots of good walks in this area . We are looking forward to returning this summer.
Thank you for your kind words. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and that you want to come back.

"Disappointed of Tunbridge Wells"
The cottage was clean and well decorated. It was too small for 6 adults and 2 small children. There was not enough room for everyone to sit down or at the table. The sofas were very uncomfortable and… More
Dear Tom & Family, We are obviously really very disappointed by your review, as we have never had a bad review before and we get many repeat visitors. We hope that potential holiday makers will read our other reviews for this property and 95459, so they know that most people are very happy. We are also upset to think you did not enjoy your stay and that you did not come to talk to us about the issues you were having, since we are on hand next door. I do apologise if our neighbour was rude-we don't know exactly what happened between you, but we would happily have talked to them for you, if we had known. As for notices- they are designed to respond to the questions we get asked and are to make it easier for guests. They are explanatory and not prohibitive. The one on the table that annoyed you, just advises guests that it's extendable, which we don't think is unreasonable. That is how you sit more people at the table, which was one of your other issues and there are spare chairs provided. There is breakfast bar too. The sofas are leather and from M&S, but there's a throw you can use if you don't like the feel of them. In the double room for example, there are 5 drawers plus 2 bedside cabinets which are empty and only 1 with spare matching linen (which is there for use by guests if needed), so we don't really understand that particular point. There's also a wardrobe. You only came for 2 nights in any event. We notice you paid a little less than the agreed price and we now understand why, but I will say that no-one has never done that before. Your review also explains why the property was left so untidy on departure, which again is very unusual and hardly ever happens. We also notice that the supports under one of the beds had been dislodged, which may explain why it was uncomfortable. The cottage is 3 bed and those on a budget often use the sofa bed and cot to maximise the value- it's a good price for 6 adults and 2 children. For those that prefer more room, we have a guest suite available, which is advertised on our web site. We would have much preferred it if you had discussed this with us and we do hope your review won't put off other guests, as our business is important to us.

"The perfect home from home in the days before our wedding!"
I stayed at the Stables and Granary with my extended family in the days leading up to our wedding in Witney. The location was perfect for me to be able to escape the wedding madness but also be close enough to shops for those last minute purchases!
The owners were very helpful in the months before and were always quick to reply to my emails and many questions.
Now that we know this gem exists we shall certainly recommend it to family and friends when their relatives come to visit!
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and that the cottages worked so well with your wedding plans. It's an exciting, but stressful time for sure! We are also glad the wedding went well and would love a photo if you have time to email one. We would be delighted to welcome you or your friends and family back, so do stay in touch.

"Comfortable and fun for all the family"
The Stables was a fantastic cottage for our stay in the Cotswolds. The cottage was extremely well presented and equipped. Our party was made up of 2 families with 2 children and 2 toddlers. Everyone enjoyed their stay. The older children loved their loft bedroom and the toy chests were a perfect addition to the experience. The kitchen had all the necessary equipment, though the abundance of local takeaways and pubs made it easy not to have to cook anyway. The games room and gym was a fantastic bonus, with a lovely range of activities to borrow and keep the little ones (and not so little ones!) entertained.
The weather wasn't great when we stayed, but we still had fun packed days out at Bourton-on-the-Water, Legoland and the Cotswolds Wildlife Park. We also enjoyed some lovely country walks from the doorstep and the cottage was a homely, cosy place to relax after a tiring day.
Thankyou - we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage to others!!
Thank you for your kind words. We are so pleased that you and your family had a good time. You mentioned during your stay about how light the rooms are and how that may affect children sleeping- thank you for the feedback, which is always welcome. It is a south facing cottage, which is good in one way, but we understand the point completely. We have curtains and blinds already as you know, but they are light in colour to keep the cottage cheerful, so we have fitted black out linings to the curtains and we have ordered a black out blind in a dark colour for the large rooflight in the loft bedroom. Hopefully, that means it will be bright and cheerful during the day, but dark when you want it to be too. Many thanks again for your constructive feedback- much appreciated.
