The property is a typical Tuscan villa set in 14 acres of gardens and woodland above the Via Cassia, the old pilgrim road from Siena to Rome. The semi circular front garden gives a panoramic view of the ValD'Arbia and from the terrace we look across the valley to Montalcino, the little town famous throughout the world for its 'Brunello di Montalcino'. Wine tasting and recommendations available as we are passionate about wine.

This family home is both private and peaceful and little changed for generations. The villa developed from a farmhouse or wine fattoria many hundreds of years old. It became the summer residence and hunting lodge of the Crocchi, the principal family of the region who lived in the Castello in Torrenieri. Montelandi is our own home in Italy when we travel and not like the usual holiday accommodation we have known. In the summer we let the house to visitors and we have tried to remember our own holiday experiences and needs so you can enjoy the home to the maximum.

6 Bedroom Villa (Sleeps 13)

Spacious and characterful home.Farmhouse kitchen with dining table for 12. Open fireplace for fires in autumn and winter. The villa on the 1st floor features 6 Bedrooms (4 doubles, 1 double with single bed and a twin bedroom) Four modern bathrooms with baths and some with shower attachments. It is also possible to add another bedroom area for a single bed or cot plus sofa beds for occasional visitors. Downstairs the private apartment sleeps 4 more guests and 2 bathrooms so the whole villa sleeps 17 in total. From the terraces and gardens we look across the valley to Montalcino and the Brunello vineyards. Montalcino is probably the most famous wine town in Italy – so there are many vineyards to visit and tastings to be enjoyed! The home features spacious garden areas for alfresco dining, the main terrace has a long table to seat up to 20 people. On the first floor you have a private dining loggia with majestic views of the surrounding hills.

The main dining room opens onto a terrace so that 20 or more can enjoy meals together with arches framing the views across the valley.

On the ground floor the old wine fattoria has been converted to provide spacious open plan areas linked by archways and leading out onto terraces at the front and the side of the house. The kitchen and breakfast room open into a dining area and from there through French Windows to a pergola shaded al fresco dining area. The views are across the garden to Montalcino and down the Val d'Arbia towards the Val d'Orcia and Monte Amiata, the highest mountain in middle Italy, snow capped and with slopes covered in chestnut trees.

Changeover day

Saturday – Saturday during peak season. We can be flexible out of season where possible.

About the area

Ground floor apartment has 3 steps which can be ramped

The main villa has approx 15 steps to access. Not suitable for wheelchair users

The home is designed in such a way that the large garden enjoys two areas for alfresco dining so guests staying at the apartment can dine at the side of the home for more privacy, so as not to be located directly next to a party using the main part of the villa and the main terrace.

Garden is private for the whole home (please note if renting the villa for 13 only, guests in the apartment downstairs have access to the garden also. Please note the garden is very large which means plenty of space for families and friends for each apartment)

There is a semi circular lawn beyond the front terrace that afford views from Siena in the North to Monte Amiata in the South.

The herb garden is just below the kitchen. It has Lemons, Mint, Tarragon, Basil, Chives, Rosemary, Sage, Parsley, Thyme.

The vegetable garden and the orchard have produce in season for visitors.

There are 14 acres of woodland. A pathway leads to 2 small lakes at the top of the woods. You can follow a path from the gates that takes you around the bottom of the hill and back up to the garden.

The swimming pool is fenced in and beyond it there is a space to play badminton. The home is designed in such a way that the large garden enjoys two areas for alfresco dining so guests staying at the apartment can dine at the side of the home for more privacy, so as not to be located directly next to a party using the main part of the villa and the main terrace.

Nearest beach is in Folllonica.

However there is so much to see of beauty and historical value here in Val D'orcia plus restaurants and wineries to explore, we think the Tuscan countryside will keep you more than occupied for a week or more!

The Tuscany region

Tuscany, what can be written that hasn't already? Miles of rolling green hills, a sun kissed climate, world renowned cuisine, vinyards and Olive oil to die for. If good food and wine, glorious summer days, walks, cafe culture, history and culture is your bag you won't go wrong with tuscany. Florence, Siena, Moltacino, San Gimigiano are all names synoumous with culture, history and individual beauty. What's more they are all within an hour of your property here. Lazy days wine tasting in Chianti or Moltacino. Long lunches eating seasonal produce like ravioli with ricotta and basil with a light tomato sauce set amongst a mouth droppingly beautiful back drop of the rolling tuscan hills. Be warned though, once visited, you'll be forever smitten!

Bounconvento can be found off the main road from Siena to Rome. A little picturesque village where time has seemingly stood still. Jasmine scented cobbled walkways, cafe bars, delicious trattorias serving tuscan specialities, fresh home made ice cream from the gelataria, bakery, fruit and veg plus little boutiques selling locally made leather hand bags to cashmere scarves for the winter. Monte Oliveto with its inspriring abbey and secnery is just 10 minutes drive from your apartment.

We came here for our honeymoon 14 years ago and have returned every year since! Despite visiting many parts of Italy Bounconvento remains a favourite. The welcoming locals ( it has to be seen to be belived!), the sheer beauty of the surrounding rolling hills, the delicious fayre from Ribolita bean soup to Wild boar ragu with tagliatelle or the cantuccio almond biscotti dipped in vin santo to round off a memorable meal!

The home is very accessible to all Moltacino, for the wine and Olive Oil is just a 10 minute drive from your home as the main road to Rome from Siena passes outside your door.

We can recommend our favourite wineries to ensure you get the most from your stay!

The train to Siena runs behind the accommodation (the station is 5 minutes walk) which is unmissable with its shell shaped piazza, boutiques, cathederals and churches. Probably as beautiful city as you will see in Italy by my reckoning!
